College Students -- Why are they rioting? And why aren't they rioting?
Thinking about loud about College Students and their tuition . . . Is it fair?
This is about college costs, but I'm going to ramble a little bit to get there.
My husband Barry likes to watch sports of all kinds. (When he was younger, he liked to play them as well). I like to avoid just about all of them but bowling of which I understand a little only for the reason that my late father had a bad investment in a bowling alley in my high school years. The only benefit was that I learned all about the game. I must confess to a distinct lack of athletic ability -- except for when I was in grade school in Fort Wayne, Indiana. At the neighborhood Weiser Park, I was fiercely competitive with the box hockey games. At that I could usually beat 'tall comers. At the volleyball, basketball, track, gymnastics, you name it, I was a disaster.
Opposites attract, but sometimes they have lots of differences. Here's ours, reinforced over 30 years of marriage:
-- Barry likes sports, I don't
-- Barry even likes boxing, I despise same
-- I would rather watch anything but a sporting event, Barry would rather miss anything but a sporting event.
And it is the aftermath of those sporting events which inspires the 'stream of consciousness' behind this column. Last Saturday night, Michigan State did something -- I frankly don't know if they won or lost, even if I am alumnus and my law school now resides on its East Lansing, Michigan campus. I don't know if they won or lost. Worse yet, to my husband, I don't care. Parenthetically, nothing infuriates Barry more than to hear me say as he goes into a blue funk over the particular score or move/mismove at the moment: "Barry, it's only a game!" Heck, at that particular moment in time and space, it's his life. A strange transition to me for him a social worker in his day job, but c'est la vie!
At any rate, they were rioting in East Lansing -- over what? They were rioting over the game. They sometimes riot when they win. They sometimes riot when they lose. It was looking like the end of the world in East Lansing. Innocent students even got tear-gassed in the cross-fire.
Now, this is what I can't figure out. I'm conservative in many of my views, but on education, I guess you would call me a flaming liberal. I think higher education is entirely too expensive. I think these kids are not given the opportunities my generation enjoyed to be able to work their way through school and graduate without being so deeply in debt that they have no hope of being able to start a family and/or purchase a home short of a family endowment or winning a major lottery.
I don't agree with everything the EU does, as you can tell from my other columns; however, I do applaud their providing free or reasonable higher education to their young people. Just where do we think compassionate caring doctors, EMS workers, Registered nurses, engineers, architects, and yes, even lawyers are going to come from to help us, the aging baby boomers?
WHY AREN'T THEY RIOTING OVER THE TUITION!!! NOW THAT'S A CAUSE I COULD UNDERSTAND. I'd even be tempted to go join them!
Now my generation (for those watching 60's movies, you remember 1968, "hell no, we won't go!) why they'd never have thought of doing that to us -- the college students of the 1960s and 1970s . Can't you just see it? There would have been sit-ins by the bursar's office, university officials would have been hung in effigy, and the next day the University President would have reading a statement announcing a TUITION DECREASE . . . They wouldn't have DARED tell us we had to pay anything even proportional to those simpler times what this overburdened generation has to pay now!
Ok, just my rambling thoughts for the evening, but I think we need to do something to either shave or share the costs of educating the generation that may well have to help care for us down the aging roads. What do you think? How are we going to have compassionate physicians if we have uncompassionate college costs?
That's my two cents worth. The tuition costs unfortunately, much more than that. Enjoy your night!

Below, with a few minor modifications to restore it to the best of my current memory as it substantially was before SqueakBox and company started Wikipedia 'editing' cum chopping, is the former Wikipedia Article on Javier Solana. Solana clearly deserves a book, if not volumes, but this was an attempt to present salient facts over and above the very limited picture of himself he gave in his official biographies. A very similar version of the original Wikipedia article also appears on the Wiki Global Elite site for which I have side site links. I have also added back the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh material that SqueakBox evidently chopped in the hopes of making Solana and his family look more traditional than they really were. Javier Solana (born July 14, 1942), the 1995-1999 NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Secretary General, is, since late 1999, Secretary General of both the European Union and the 10 nation permanent member Western European Union. He also holds the title of the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU, a position created by the European Union's "Council of Vienna" in December 1998.

He has a cabinet of his own. That advisory body is expected to grow. It is expected that ratification of the constitution will be complete sometime in 2006. Under the new constitution, he would become a powerful figure in the EU government, having a power of initiative only shared with the presidency. He would also automatically serve as Vice President of the European Union.
Family history
Solana was born on July 14, 1942 in Madrid, Spain as "Javier Solana de Madariaga". On his maternal side, he is the grandson of famous Spanish diplomat/writer Salvador de Madariaga de Rojo (1886-1978). Salvador de Madariaga at various times served as Spanish ambassador to the United States and as chief of the Disarmament Section of the League of Nations. He also had a teaching career at England's Oxford University. Salvador de Madariaga was admiringly said to be one of the ten best conversationalists in all of Europe in his day. His writing career ranged from books about Christopher Columbus to analyses of what he considered to be the growing Communist threat to Latin America. Solana's maternal grandmother, Constance Archibald de Madariaga, was born Scottish. Like her diplomat-writer husband, she was also a well known scholar. She was professionally and academically known as an economic historian.
Javier is the younger of the two sons of de Madariaga's daughter Nieves (1917-2003). Solana's mother, like her more famous father, was also a recognized scholar and writer. Her full name at the time of her death was Nieves Hayat de Madariaga Mathews. She was employed for upwards of 20 years by the FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization), a United Nations agency headquartered in Rome. Her Yale University published book on the life of Sir Francis Bacon was released in 1996. The 606 page volume is entitled, Francis Bacon: The History of a Character Assassination.

Nieves de Madariaga Mathews claimed in her acknowledgements that the book was suggested and blessed by "my teacher, Osho, who thought highly of Francis Bacon and gave the book his blessing." "Osho", Solana's mother's teacher was better known to Americans as the highly controversial Oregon compound cult leader, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. He was deported from the USA in 1987 and died in India in 1990.

As well as Rajneesh (Osho), Solana's mother was equally deeply and publicly influenced by the works of Immanuel Velikovsky. She devoted much time to her pursuit of both Velikovsky and Sir Francis Bacon literacy and causes.
Javier Solana's only maternal aunt is Isabel de Madariaga, a professor emeritus of Slavonic Studies at the College of London. A brilliant and thorough scholar, she has published extensive historical works, most notably about Russian empress, Catherine the Great.
Javier Solana is the younger of Nieves de Madariaga Mathews' two sons. His older brother Luis Solana is a retired Spanish telephone company chief executive officer; he was the first known Socialist party member to join the Trilateral Commission. He was ardently opposed to the Spanish presidency of General Franco and was reportedly imprisoned for his political activity. Like his older brother, Javier Solana, is an active member of the Trilateral Commission. Although not eligible for membership as he is not an American citizen, Javier Solana is a frequent speaker and enjoys excellent relationships with members of the prestigious US based Council on Foreign Relations Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) He is likewise active with the Foreign Policy Association (FPA) as well as the New York city based East West Institute.
On Solana's paternal side, his grandfather was Don Ezequiel Solana de Ramirez. He was reportedly a revered educator and text book author who died in 1931. His son, Francisco Solana was reportedly Luis and Javier's father.
Education, Early Career, and Associations
Javier Solana's most personally listed affiliation apart from the Socialist party is the Spanish chapter of the Club of Rome. On a personal level, he has been said to "eat little and sleep less;" his is reportedly "a monk's diet of fish and fruit." Some accounts state that although he is active in global disarmament efforts, his favorite personal hobby is "collecting guns".
Professionally, apart from his political careers, Solana holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry (Received in Spain in 1963), a Master's Degree obtained in Great Britain, and a doctorate in physics. Solana is fond of saying that "in a previous incarnation I worked as a professor in solid-state physics." He received his doctorate in 1968 while studying at the University of Virginia under a Fulbright Scholarship in the United States. He taught and worked as a researcher at the University of Virginia between 1968 and 1971. Solana left the USA in 1971 to return to Spain with one of his teaching mentors. There he was employed by Computense University in Madrid, Spain. Again, he was banished for political reasons, i.e. opposition to the Franco government. In 1975, Solana's political nemesis, Generalissimo Francisco Franco died. Thereupon Solana, expelled in his youth for anti-Franco rebellion, gained a Complutense University professorship. That year, also, he re-involved himself in Spanish political life. As a representative of a teacher's union, he ran and won election as the Socialist candidate for the parliamentary seat he was to begin occupying in July 1977.
Solana was officially a Marxist until September 29, 1979. He was also a member of the Spanish socialist party PSOE since 1964. That was the year as well that he joined the "Socialist Youth." In 1976, he represented the Socialists at an internation Socialist Congress held in the French province of Suresnes. He participated in the same Congress held in 1977 in Spain. Solana was designated secretary of Information and Press of the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE. He was also active in the Teacher's Union, the Federation of Workers of the Education of the General Union of Workers (UGT). He was elected to the Spanish parliament as a representative of the Teacher's Union in 1977. He was continuously a member of the Spanish parliament and steadily advanced in the Felipe Gonzalez administration, steadily advancing through various cabinet positions.
Between 1982 and 1995, he held powerful positions in the Spanish government including that of the Minister for Culture, Minister of Science and Education and lastly as Minister for Foreign Affairs (1992-1995). For most of those years he was also the official spokesman for the Spanish government.
When it was Spain's turn to hold the rotating chairmanships/presidencies of the Council of the European Union and the Western European Union, Solana was designated by Spain to head those posts. Those dual posts coincided in 1995.
On November 20, 1995 during Spain's turn at the rotating six month presidency of the European Union, Javier Solana concluded a treaty between the European Union and Israel.

Role in NATO
On November 30, 1995, Solana was appointed as NATO Secretary General. His election was a surprise to many, including 52 United States congressmen who telegraphically protested his appointment because of his alleged Marxist and pro-Castro sympathies. He had once been on the USA's own subversive list. He had been best known, according to the Spanish press, as one of Spain's most vocal and prominent opponents of NATO. He had even once written a pamphlet, "50 Reasons to say NO to NATO."
The Secretary General of NATO usually has a ministerial role, passing on instructions from the member nations' consensus to its military components, but during his 1995 to 1999 NATO tenure, Solana was given powers to make military decisions over Yugoslavia. For example, on January 30, 1999, he was given the authority to make all further military decisions over NATO's Balkan operations, including whether or not bombings should occur. Madeleine Albright, USA Secretary of State then said by way of explanation, "Solana has the power and has had it since January 30th [ 1999]. We are speaking with one voice through Javier Solana". On March 21, 1999, USA President Bill Clinton told a national American television audience about the forthcoming bombings: "I agree with Javier Solana's decision to do this." The order to commence bombing against Yugoslavian targets was subsequently given by Solana.
USA General Wesley Clark, who as chief military officer of the NATO coalition reported to and took orders from Solana, reports in his book Waging Modern War that he once asked Solana the secret of his success. Solana reflected briefly and then answered, "First make no enemies. Then never ask a question to which you do not know or do not like the answer."
Roles in the EU and the Western European Union
Solana's NATO term was to have expired in December, 1999; however, he left that job two months early, in October 1999, to take the newly created position of Office of the High Representative of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (also more informally called "Señor PESC]]" ("Mr PESC", in Spanish media)- Post of European Security Commissioner). He was also given the title and responsibility of Secretary General of the European Union; this was to give continuity between the EU's various 6 month rotating presidential administrations. Solana was described by the European press as "tsar of European military and foreign policy."
On November 20, 1999, Javier Solana was also selected by the ten-nation core of the Western European Union (WEU) to be its pending Secretary General, pending unification with the European Union. However, on June 5, 2000, the ten nation WEU noted that under its governing treaties complete merger could not occur, and therefore they supported a proposal to have the WEU Secretary General and CFSP High Representative (both roles of Solana) preside over the PSC (Political Security Committee) and convene the Council of the European Union in the event of an emergency. (Such an emergency was declared after the March 11, 2004, Madrid train bombings.
The WEU appointment [of November 20, 2005] came on the same day as major world leaders were gathering for a major social event at deceased British author Sir Harold Acton's old Italian villa, owned by New York University's School of Law. The gathering was of the Third Way Movement. Solana was in attendance at the villa as were U.S. President and Mrs. Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, European Commission President Romano Prodi, and many other such distinguished transatlantic leaders.
Javier Solana presides over Europe's Political Security Committee (PSC). All those seated on that committee hold ambassadorial rank in the EU and serve at the pleasure of Javier Solana. All foreign ambassadors of the European Union entity (as opposed to its individual countries) as well as all EU military personnel are accountable to the Council of the European Union through Javier Solana. The EU's hope is that the pending new European constitution will strengthen and extend this European federal-type set of structures.

Before going to NATO, Javier Solana did most or even all of the spearheading and coordination of the Barcelona Process, the launching pad of the 27 nation "Barcelona Process" expected to lead to a Mediterranean free trade zone by 2010. This conference was opened by him on November 27, 1995. He opened by declaring that it was auspicious that it began on the 900th anniversary of the calling of the first crusade by Pope Urban II, commenting "What a lot of intolerance and misunderstanding that led to." The conference concluded with the 27 nations signing the Barcelona Treaty.
Solana has also negotiated numerous "Treaties of Association" between the European Union and various Mideast countries. In his tenure with the European Union, Javier Solana has been relatively busy on the world stage negotiating various integration treaties with South American countries such as Bolivia and Colombia. He has also been a vital part of the Quartet for Peace in the Middle East along with Kofi Annan of the UN, a Russian representative, and a USA representative. He has been said to be a primary architect of "The Roadmap" itself issued by "The Quartet".

CEC] In November 2004, Solana assisted Britain, France, and Germany in negotiating a nuclear material enrichment freeze with the leadership of Iran. The EU through Solana stated it hoped to avoid another American-Iraqi style invasion through this and future negotiations.
Some British and American observers stated that perhaps the EU's motives were to dislodge the USA as the only superpower in the coming 21st century struggle for increasingly scarce global resources.
"Solania"
Solana claimed a pivotal role in unifying the remainder of the former Yugoslavian federation. Reportedly, he proposed accommodating the Montenegrine desires within the new loose union of Serbia and Montenegro (2003), instead of full independence of the parts. Solana claimed this was done to avoid a domino effect from Kosovo and Vojvodina independence demands. Local media sarcastically named the new country "Solania" . Still other observers have pointed to this as a probable "Balkan reduction," noting with alarm that one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of World War II was that Hitler failed to reduce the Balkans before taking on the USA and Russia.
Future
As of 2004, there is increased reliance on Javier Solana by the EU and the WEU. On June 29,, 2004 Javier Solana was selected by the Council of the European Union to be its first Foreign Minister under the new EU Constitution. Until formal ratification of the constitution occurs (planned for 2006), Solana is de facto exercising the defined powers of that future office as well as being responsible for the approximately upwards of 26 billion EURO budget (formerly reserved for the Commissioner of External Affairs). Solana no longer travels with the EU Rotating Presidency and the Commissioner of External Affairs as the reigning EU "troika" -- since the vote of the Council of Ministers, Solana now speaks and travels as the sole voice rather than one of three voices.
On July 20th 2004, Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon declined to meet with Solana, saying that because of an EU vote against Israel at the UN Israel would not work with the EU, notwithstanding it's prominence on the Quartet for Peace in the Middle East. Solana stunned the world, Israel included, by replying that like it or not, both he and the EU were there to stay on the Israeli-Palestinian decision making processes. He is presently may be the major player in structuring a peace plan between Israel and Palestine, with Europe combining with other major players to guarantee regional security for the time any treaty achieved is in force. He is achieving this both through his "Barcelona Process" and the "Roadmap for Peace" in the Middle East, for which he is also acknowledged as a major architect.

Post June 29, 2004, many other sources were making the same observation -- that Kissinger (and anybody else) could ring up Europe by calling just calling Javier Solana. Some Solana-watchers are noting his rise to power with growing fascination. Solana has been criticised for his new powers, and has publicly downplayed his potential powers by saying that even under the new constitution the new Foreign Minister, with all its projected powers, can only be exercised if there is complete unanimity among EU member states. Given Solana's talents in securing consensus but also bringing pressure to bear where necessary, people are interested to watch how Solana and/or his successors in this office play out the role of the new EU Foreign Minister. In end of February Mr. Elmar Brok, German Christian Democrat deputy, and chairman of the European parliament's foreign affairs committee warned in Brussels that Solana "could become too powerful and could be put in charge of an "uncontrollable" new bureaucracy".

On 21 January 2005 Solana invited Ukraine's president-elect Viktor Yushchenko to discuss the possibility of a future EU membership. The report also stated that the EU's Executive Commission had no plans to consider Ukrainian entry into the EU.
Personality
As the anti-Franco activist in his youth and the anti-NATO activist in his 40s combined with his leadership of NATO in his 50s, Javier Solana has sometimes been called a "squarer of circles" (i.e. reconciler of opposites). Past illustrations of this (whether intentional or not) were his marriage to the daughter (Concepción Giménez) of a top Franco general and by his heading NATO in his fifties. He has also played an active role in the various Mideast peace processes at least between 1991 and the present time.
Javier Solana is married to Concepcion Giménez Solana, herself a teacher. They are the parents of two grown children: a son, Diego, and a daughter, Vega. Solana reportedly has never moved his immediate family - wife and children - to Brussels, his main residence since first taking his NATO post in December of 1995 and his European Union posts thereafter. He has admitted that his family life has suffered as a result of the schedules from his NATO post and EU jobs forward.

Family history
Solana was born on July 14, 1942 in Madrid, Spain as "Javier Solana de Madariaga". On his maternal side, he is the grandson of famous Spanish diplomat/writer Salvador de Madariaga de Rojo (1886-1978). Salvador de Madariaga at various times served as Spanish ambassador to the United States and as chief of the Disarmament Section of the League of Nations. He also had a teaching career at England's Oxford University. Salvador de Madariaga was admiringly said to be one of the ten best conversationalists in all of Europe in his day. His writing career ranged from books about Christopher Columbus to analyses of what he considered to be the growing Communist threat to Latin America. Solana's maternal grandmother, Constance Archibald de Madariaga, was born Scottish. Like her diplomat-writer husband, she was also a well known scholar. She was professionally and academically known as an economic historian.
Javier is the younger of the two sons of de Madariaga's daughter Nieves (1917-2003). Solana's mother, like her more famous father, was also a recognized scholar and writer. Her full name at the time of her death was Nieves Hayat de Madariaga Mathews. She was employed for upwards of 20 years by the FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization), a United Nations agency headquartered in Rome. Her Yale University published book on the life of Sir Francis Bacon was released in 1996. The 606 page volume is entitled, Francis Bacon: The History of a Character Assassination.

Nieves de Madariaga Mathews claimed in her acknowledgements that the book was suggested and blessed by "my teacher, Osho, who thought highly of Francis Bacon and gave the book his blessing." "Osho", Solana's mother's teacher was better known to Americans as the highly controversial Oregon compound cult leader, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. He was deported from the USA in 1987 and died in India in 1990.

Javier Solana's only maternal aunt is Isabel de Madariaga, a professor emeritus of Slavonic Studies at the College of London. A brilliant and thorough scholar, she has published extensive historical works, most notably about Russian empress, Catherine the Great.

On Solana's paternal side, his grandfather was Don Ezequiel Solana de Ramirez. He was reportedly a revered educator and text book author who died in 1931. His son, Francisco Solana was reportedly Luis and Javier's father.
Education, Early Career, and Associations
Javier Solana's most personally listed affiliation apart from the Socialist party is the Spanish chapter of the Club of Rome. On a personal level, he has been said to "eat little and sleep less;" his is reportedly "a monk's diet of fish and fruit." Some accounts state that although he is active in global disarmament efforts, his favorite personal hobby is "collecting guns".
Professionally, apart from his political careers, Solana holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry (Received in Spain in 1963), a Master's Degree obtained in Great Britain, and a doctorate in physics. Solana is fond of saying that "in a previous incarnation I worked as a professor in solid-state physics." He received his doctorate in 1968 while studying at the University of Virginia under a Fulbright Scholarship in the United States. He taught and worked as a researcher at the University of Virginia between 1968 and 1971. Solana left the USA in 1971 to return to Spain with one of his teaching mentors. There he was employed by Computense University in Madrid, Spain. Again, he was banished for political reasons, i.e. opposition to the Franco government. In 1975, Solana's political nemesis, Generalissimo Francisco Franco died. Thereupon Solana, expelled in his youth for anti-Franco rebellion, gained a Complutense University professorship. That year, also, he re-involved himself in Spanish political life. As a representative of a teacher's union, he ran and won election as the Socialist candidate for the parliamentary seat he was to begin occupying in July 1977.
Solana was officially a Marxist until September 29, 1979. He was also a member of the Spanish socialist party PSOE since 1964. That was the year as well that he joined the "Socialist Youth." In 1976, he represented the Socialists at an internation Socialist Congress held in the French province of Suresnes. He participated in the same Congress held in 1977 in Spain. Solana was designated secretary of Information and Press of the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE. He was also active in the Teacher's Union, the Federation of Workers of the Education of the General Union of Workers (UGT). He was elected to the Spanish parliament as a representative of the Teacher's Union in 1977. He was continuously a member of the Spanish parliament and steadily advanced in the Felipe Gonzalez administration, steadily advancing through various cabinet positions.
Between 1982 and 1995, he held powerful positions in the Spanish government including that of the Minister for Culture, Minister of Science and Education and lastly as Minister for Foreign Affairs (1992-1995). For most of those years he was also the official spokesman for the Spanish government.
When it was Spain's turn to hold the rotating chairmanships/presidencies of the Council of the European Union and the Western European Union, Solana was designated by Spain to head those posts. Those dual posts coincided in 1995.
On November 20, 1995 during Spain's turn at the rotating six month presidency of the European Union, Javier Solana concluded a treaty between the European Union and Israel.

Role in NATO
On November 30, 1995, Solana was appointed as NATO Secretary General. His election was a surprise to many, including 52 United States congressmen who telegraphically protested his appointment because of his alleged Marxist and pro-Castro sympathies. He had once been on the USA's own subversive list. He had been best known, according to the Spanish press, as one of Spain's most vocal and prominent opponents of NATO. He had even once written a pamphlet, "50 Reasons to say NO to NATO."
The Secretary General of NATO usually has a ministerial role, passing on instructions from the member nations' consensus to its military components, but during his 1995 to 1999 NATO tenure, Solana was given powers to make military decisions over Yugoslavia. For example, on January 30, 1999, he was given the authority to make all further military decisions over NATO's Balkan operations, including whether or not bombings should occur. Madeleine Albright, USA Secretary of State then said by way of explanation, "Solana has the power and has had it since January 30th [ 1999]. We are speaking with one voice through Javier Solana". On March 21, 1999, USA President Bill Clinton told a national American television audience about the forthcoming bombings: "I agree with Javier Solana's decision to do this." The order to commence bombing against Yugoslavian targets was subsequently given by Solana.
USA General Wesley Clark, who as chief military officer of the NATO coalition reported to and took orders from Solana, reports in his book Waging Modern War that he once asked Solana the secret of his success. Solana reflected briefly and then answered, "First make no enemies. Then never ask a question to which you do not know or do not like the answer."
Roles in the EU and the Western European Union
Solana's NATO term was to have expired in December, 1999; however, he left that job two months early, in October 1999, to take the newly created position of Office of the High Representative of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (also more informally called "Señor PESC]]" ("Mr PESC", in Spanish media)- Post of European Security Commissioner). He was also given the title and responsibility of Secretary General of the European Union; this was to give continuity between the EU's various 6 month rotating presidential administrations. Solana was described by the European press as "tsar of European military and foreign policy."
On November 20, 1999, Javier Solana was also selected by the ten-nation core of the Western European Union (WEU) to be its pending Secretary General, pending unification with the European Union. However, on June 5, 2000, the ten nation WEU noted that under its governing treaties complete merger could not occur, and therefore they supported a proposal to have the WEU Secretary General and CFSP High Representative (both roles of Solana) preside over the PSC (Political Security Committee) and convene the Council of the European Union in the event of an emergency. (Such an emergency was declared after the March 11, 2004, Madrid train bombings.
The WEU appointment [of November 20, 2005] came on the same day as major world leaders were gathering for a major social event at deceased British author Sir Harold Acton's old Italian villa, owned by New York University's School of Law. The gathering was of the Third Way Movement. Solana was in attendance at the villa as were U.S. President and Mrs. Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, European Commission President Romano Prodi, and many other such distinguished transatlantic leaders.
Javier Solana presides over Europe's Political Security Committee (PSC). All those seated on that committee hold ambassadorial rank in the EU and serve at the pleasure of Javier Solana. All foreign ambassadors of the European Union entity (as opposed to its individual countries) as well as all EU military personnel are accountable to the Council of the European Union through Javier Solana. The EU's hope is that the pending new European constitution will strengthen and extend this European federal-type set of structures.

Before going to NATO, Javier Solana did most or even all of the spearheading and coordination of the Barcelona Process, the launching pad of the 27 nation "Barcelona Process" expected to lead to a Mediterranean free trade zone by 2010. This conference was opened by him on November 27, 1995. He opened by declaring that it was auspicious that it began on the 900th anniversary of the calling of the first crusade by Pope Urban II, commenting "What a lot of intolerance and misunderstanding that led to." The conference concluded with the 27 nations signing the Barcelona Treaty.
Solana has also negotiated numerous "Treaties of Association" between the European Union and various Mideast countries. In his tenure with the European Union, Javier Solana has been relatively busy on the world stage negotiating various integration treaties with South American countries such as Bolivia and Colombia. He has also been a vital part of the Quartet for Peace in the Middle East along with Kofi Annan of the UN, a Russian representative, and a USA representative. He has been said to be a primary architect of "The Roadmap" itself issued by "The Quartet".

CEC] In November 2004, Solana assisted Britain, France, and Germany in negotiating a nuclear material enrichment freeze with the leadership of Iran. The EU through Solana stated it hoped to avoid another American-Iraqi style invasion through this and future negotiations.
Some British and American observers stated that perhaps the EU's motives were to dislodge the USA as the only superpower in the coming 21st century struggle for increasingly scarce global resources.
"Solania"
Solana claimed a pivotal role in unifying the remainder of the former Yugoslavian federation. Reportedly, he proposed accommodating the Montenegrine desires within the new loose union of Serbia and Montenegro (2003), instead of full independence of the parts. Solana claimed this was done to avoid a domino effect from Kosovo and Vojvodina independence demands. Local media sarcastically named the new country "Solania" . Still other observers have pointed to this as a probable "Balkan reduction," noting with alarm that one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of World War II was that Hitler failed to reduce the Balkans before taking on the USA and Russia.
Future
As of 2004, there is increased reliance on Javier Solana by the EU and the WEU. On June 29,, 2004 Javier Solana was selected by the Council of the European Union to be its first Foreign Minister under the new EU Constitution. Until formal ratification of the constitution occurs (planned for 2006), Solana is de facto exercising the defined powers of that future office as well as being responsible for the approximately upwards of 26 billion EURO budget (formerly reserved for the Commissioner of External Affairs). Solana no longer travels with the EU Rotating Presidency and the Commissioner of External Affairs as the reigning EU "troika" -- since the vote of the Council of Ministers, Solana now speaks and travels as the sole voice rather than one of three voices.
On July 20th 2004, Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon declined to meet with Solana, saying that because of an EU vote against Israel at the UN Israel would not work with the EU, notwithstanding it's prominence on the Quartet for Peace in the Middle East. Solana stunned the world, Israel included, by replying that like it or not, both he and the EU were there to stay on the Israeli-Palestinian decision making processes. He is presently may be the major player in structuring a peace plan between Israel and Palestine, with Europe combining with other major players to guarantee regional security for the time any treaty achieved is in force. He is achieving this both through his "Barcelona Process" and the "Roadmap for Peace" in the Middle East, for which he is also acknowledged as a major architect.

Post June 29, 2004, many other sources were making the same observation -- that Kissinger (and anybody else) could ring up Europe by calling just calling Javier Solana. Some Solana-watchers are noting his rise to power with growing fascination. Solana has been criticised for his new powers, and has publicly downplayed his potential powers by saying that even under the new constitution the new Foreign Minister, with all its projected powers, can only be exercised if there is complete unanimity among EU member states. Given Solana's talents in securing consensus but also bringing pressure to bear where necessary, people are interested to watch how Solana and/or his successors in this office play out the role of the new EU Foreign Minister. In end of February Mr. Elmar Brok, German Christian Democrat deputy, and chairman of the European parliament's foreign affairs committee warned in Brussels that Solana "could become too powerful and could be put in charge of an "uncontrollable" new bureaucracy".

On 21 January 2005 Solana invited Ukraine's president-elect Viktor Yushchenko to discuss the possibility of a future EU membership. The report also stated that the EU's Executive Commission had no plans to consider Ukrainian entry into the EU.
Personality
As the anti-Franco activist in his youth and the anti-NATO activist in his 40s combined with his leadership of NATO in his 50s, Javier Solana has sometimes been called a "squarer of circles" (i.e. reconciler of opposites). Past illustrations of this (whether intentional or not) were his marriage to the daughter (Concepción Giménez) of a top Franco general and by his heading NATO in his fifties. He has also played an active role in the various Mideast peace processes at least between 1991 and the present time.
Javier Solana is married to Concepcion Giménez Solana, herself a teacher. They are the parents of two grown children: a son, Diego, and a daughter, Vega. Solana reportedly has never moved his immediate family - wife and children - to Brussels, his main residence since first taking his NATO post in December of 1995 and his European Union posts thereafter. He has admitted that his family life has suffered as a result of the schedules from his NATO post and EU jobs forward.

I had so much response to my two postings dealing with Javier Solana, I thought it would be beneficial to place a broader knowledge base out there. Herb Peters has done an admirable job on his website, www.fulfilledprophecy.com, and I commend that as well. His book, Recommendation 666's title is based on this linked Javier Solana drafted and introduced bill of June 5, 2000: "Recommendation 666."
What Herb and I were later to discover was that this was not the first major 666 in Solana's political career. His very job, Office of the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union had also been created under a 666 banner:

His extensive powers have recently been vastly increased, even before ratification of the EU Constitution is complete. As Lord Acton once said, "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely." It appears that as far as the EU is concerned, at least, Javier Solana is enjoying near absolute power. His EU sources have said with satisfaction that he is becoming a global reference point as well:

April 11, 2005: Most curiously (on Wikipedia, not here!) I tried to begin a column on my personal user page

and found myself 'logged out' without having 'logged out' after visiting another Wikipedia page to obtain a link. The user pages of my two main tormentors on Wikipedia are internally linked as on Wikipedia as "SqueakBox" and "One Salient Oversight" and are externally linked as follows:

These two, particularly SqueakBox (well named, isn't he?) have mercilessly worked to vandalize and delete my work even on other boards such as Wiki Global Alert. Then they added links to those going beyond my work to create a cartoon caricature effect of my work. Anytime I tried to defend myself on the board, Squeakbox and his numerous allies (dare I call them 'sockpuppets'?) came back whining about 'personal attacks' and erased my work while posting the curiously defective worded SqueakBox versions. I say curious because his true writing name has fully written articles with rich detail and properly spelled paragraphs and worded sentences, unlike his claimed 'machete blow to the head' handicap excuse here. http://www.marrder.com/htw/nov2000/cultural.htm
As a scholar on Solana, at this point, I may be without peer. I have read virtually everything written by him and much of it about him. I have read speeches by his brother, Luis Solana; his mother Nieves Matthews' book on the life and career of Sir Francis Bacon, several books by his grandfather, Salvador de Madariaga de Rojo, and a book by his Aunt Isabel de Madariaga on the life of Catherine the Great. I have followed his activities on nearly a daily basis via the internet since November 22, 1995, the night of an insomniac attack when I happened to discover his beginning Barcelona Process and a little more than a week later, the beginning of his NATO tenure.
Although Squeakbox, One Salient Oversight and the rest of their comrades have attempted to rewrite or obfuscate history, the following facts remain:
1. Solana's initial power base was the 15 nation European Union AND the TEN NATION WESTERN EUROPEAN UNION. Squeakbox claimed on one of his pages that he deleted the ten nation reference because it was "an evidence" that Christians could take as "the ten horns" of Daniel and Revelation;
2. Solana did conclude and sign a treaty with Israel on November 20, 1995, two days before I made his internet acquaintance.
3. Two days after the treaty was signed, the Red Sea resort area of Israel (Eilat) and surrounding Egyptian country was struck by a massive earthquake -- one like much of the material I have placed on Wikipedia, was evidently the recipient of historical revisionism. Within a week, the 7.2 mw quake was downgraded to one only 6.2 in strength.

By the way, the actual strength of that quake was 7.2 as observed by the United States Geological Service in Golden, Colorado and the University of Michigan and University of Ohio joint seismic research center. The Ontario earthquake research center recorded its intensity as even a much stronger 7.3 mw. Its depth was such that it was considered a true global quake. Interestingly, the apparently Israeli based time line in addition to downplaying the true strength of the November 22, 1995 earthquake, also omits the November 20th signing of the Treaty of Association between Israel and the European Union, a vital component of the European Union's Barcelona Process and current European Neighborhood Policy. Why it was omitted is a matter of interesting speculation.

I have placed these comments here for the benefit of those who believe Wikipedia to be a credible resource. I have noticed these things happening:
1. SqueakBox's personal attacks on me continue to stand.

4. When I deleted the personal attacks SqueakBox placed upon me, they were restored and my IP address was temporarily banned for 'vandalism' even though deleting personal attacks is allowed under Wikipedia policy (or so SqueakBox says if it is me writing about his considerable attacks upon yours truly).
This reminds me of episodes I had on Prodigy with a coven of on-line self-confessed pagans and witches back in the late 1980's. One of their number wrote me claiming to be a Christian who had read both my books. She urged me to jump to the Art section and post there, which I naively did. Then I was set upon by the community. The discussion centering about my posts grew quickly to one of the largest sections on all of Prodigy. Hours of time were wasted by me nightly in answering their verbiage cum garbage. Then somebody sent me a link to show where they were bragging about dissipating my energies and writing time by their antics. I hopped over there, and cut and pasted their comments to my private BBS. I decided to leave Prodigy and left them bewailing the loss of their fun.
For many of the same reasons, I have started my own column elsewhere on the web. No, it isn't a website. I have neither time nor resources to maintain it. You may find what I do have by clicking the following link http://www.cumbey.blogspot.com
I firmly expect that both the Rastafarians and the Christian false brethren will follow me over there. So be it. If ignorance reigns about Javier Solana, I don't want it to be my fault. If they want it on their eternal shoulders, that's their choice!
Oh, and by the way is Javier Solana either/or the 'anti-Christ' or the 'prophesied destroyer of the Jews of Daniel? Dunno -- your guess is as good as mine. It's just that from where I currently sit, he might be an educated guess. But then again, so was Hitler.

"APRIL 11, 2005 -- A FEW WORDS FROM CONSTANCE CUMBEY
April 11, 2005: Most curiously (on Wikipedia, not here!) I tried to begin a column on my personal user page

and found myself 'logged out' without having 'logged out' after visiting another Wikipedia page to obtain a link. The user pages of my two main tormentors on Wikipedia are internally linked as on Wikipedia as "SqueakBox" and "One Salient Oversight" and are externally linked as follows:

These two, particularly SqueakBox (well named, isn't he?) have mercilessly worked to vandalize and delete my work even on other boards such as Wiki Global Alert. Then they added links to those going beyond my work to create a cartoon caricature effect of my work. Anytime I tried to defend myself on the board, Squeakbox and his numerous allies (dare I call them 'sockpuppets'?) came back whining about 'personal attacks' and erased my work while posting the curiously defective worded SqueakBox versions. I say curious because his true writing name has fully written articles with rich detail and properly spelled paragraphs and worded sentences, unlike his claimed 'machete blow to the head' handicap excuse here. http://www.marrder.com/htw/nov2000/cultural.htm
As a scholar on Solana, at this point, I may be without peer. I have read virtually everything written by him and much of it about him. I have read speeches by his brother, Luis Solana; his mother Nieves Matthews' book on the life and career of Sir Francis Bacon, several books by his grandfather, Salvador de Madariaga de Rojo, and a book by his Aunt Isabel de Madariaga on the life of Catherine the Great. I have followed his activities on nearly a daily basis via the internet since November 22, 1995, the night of an insomniac attack when I happened to discover his beginning Barcelona Process and a little more than a week later, the beginning of his NATO tenure.
Although Squeakbox, One Salient Oversight and the rest of their comrades have attempted to rewrite or obfuscate history, the following facts remain:
1. Solana's initial power base was the 15 nation European Union AND the TEN NATION WESTERN EUROPEAN UNION. Squeakbox claimed on one of his pages that he deleted the ten nation reference because it was "an evidence" that Christians could take as "the ten horns" of Daniel and Revelation;
2. Solana did conclude and sign a treaty with Israel on November 20, 1995, two days before I made his internet acquaintance.
3. Two days after the treaty was signed, the Red Sea resort area of Israel (Eilat) and surrounding Egyptian country was struck by a massive earthquake -- one like much of the material I have placed on Wikipedia, was evidently the recipient of historical revisionism. Within a week, the 7.2 mw quake was downgraded to one only 6.2 in strength.

By the way, the actual strength of that quake was 7.2 as observed by the United States Geological Service in Golden, Colorado and the University of Michigan and University of Ohio joint seismic research center. The Ontario earthquake research center recorded its intensity as even a much stronger 7.3 mw. Its depth was such that it was considered a true global quake. Interestingly, the apparently Israeli based time line in addition to downplaying the true strength of the November 22, 1995 earthquake, also omits the November 20th signing of the Treaty of Association between Israel and the European Union, a vital component of the European Union's Barcelona Process and current European Neighborhood Policy. Why it was omitted is a matter of interesting speculation.

My husband, Barry, and I are unashamed animal lovers. We are currently down to two dogs. Our remaining cat was one week shy of 20 when he died on Easter Sunday. We have had quite an assortment of cats and dogs over the 31 years of our marriage. We gained the confidence of two feral cats and tamed them to the extent that nobody might have guessed they were once totally and dangerously wild.
With that having been said, I am also an unapologetic pro-life Christian. The Dr. Kevorkians’ and George Felos’ (Mr. Schiavo’s death advocating attorney) of this world trouble me. So do the abortionists.
St. Augustine once wrote that before he became a Christian, he had more pity for the peach than for man for whom God had created the peach. There is an ideology I have been keeping up with for the past 24 years. It has collectively called itself by many names, depending on the flak it receives from its various successor identities: You may have heard it (or some of its prominent components) called any of the following names:

Those in these various movements share a popular slogan of “we are all one,” that is until somebody comes and points out their connectedness, at which point the slogan instead becomes “that’s them, not us” and alternatively, “we are all separate.” One popular agenda among the more intense of their number, including but not limited to Jeremy Rifkin and George Monbiot is advocacy of compelled vegetarianism.
Well, I was so pleased to see that some of the popular commentators in this movement have suddenly developed a sensitivity to intrauterine animal pain – pregnant animals being slaughtered and what pain might be felt by the unborn offspring of these hapless, helpless creatures. Maybe the anti-vivisectionist movement was developing a sensitivity for life that might translate soon to sensitivity for unborn human life!

Concerned analysts have reported that New Age influences are steering the medical profession in the opposite direction from that projected for the animal kingdom, in which in the New Age worldview, pre-born animals have feelings, whereas pre-born people aren’t (people) until birth! The occultic, i.e. New Age, roots of Nazism are hard to deny. The Nazis, including but certainly not limited to Hitler himself, had enormous pity for animal life. Hitler himself was said to be a vegetarian. Animal experimentation was self-righteously condemned and banned. So what was left? So they wouldn’t be guilty of ‘speciesism” they had to experiment on something. So what was left? People!

Practically all of us remember where we were and what we were doing when we heard the first breaking news of the breaking Asian tsunami. It was December 26th and personally I was headed to Indiana for a family funeral. I called my husband who remained home and asked him to video record the breaking news.
Exactly one week before the tsunami tragedy, I had recorded accounts of meteoric activity in the same Sumatra - Jakarta region:

A week to the day later, the region was devastated by water damage that some commentators say could only have been exceeded by the Biblical Great Flood itself.

I can hardly imagine the terror and the shock affecting what must by now be a numbed population. I once was in a 5.5 mw aftershock quake to the 6.2 Los Angeles area quake of October 1, 1987. That 5.5 quake was about all the earthquake I personally care to experience. What the inhabitants of the afflicted Indian Ocean regions have suffered is beyond my comprehension.
I say all of this wondering how the relief organizations are keeping up. It has been a numbing year in terms of disasters. Florida suffered tremendous hurricane damage last fall. I know the recovery continues there. There have been so many disasters and so little interval for recovery.
Are these disasters apocalyptic? I personally believe that given the confluence of other world events, that is a real possibility. Does that mean we sit back and do nothing? No! Are there people exploiting the disasters for personal gain? Probably. Does that mean we give to nobody? No! I am personally interested in knowing where is the best place to place disaster restoration resources? Do those heeding Matthew 24 warnings also heeding Matthew 25 ones?

Despite Ian Paisley's claims that Javier Solana is a devout Catholic, the truth is that he is instead more likely staunchly anti-clerical. His late grandfather, Spanish writer/Diplomat/Oxford professor Salvador de Madariaga was amused by claims that he, Madariaga, was Catholic. Salvador de Madariaga recounts in his memoirs, Morning without Noon (UK: Saxon House, 1973, See page 198), that he was so very amused to find himself on a list of Catholics teaching at Oxford. Madariaga wrote that he was so pleased that the author of the list was able to determine what he had never been able to determine for himself -- his religion, if any. Salvador de Madariaga was so determinedly anti-clerical that he never permitted the baptism of either of his two daughters, Nieves and Isabel.

In 1983 when I was busy lecturing on the anti-clerical/anti-Semitic aspects of the New Age Movement, Javier Solana was at meetings giving Marxist salutes:

What increased the strangeness of this political gesture was that by his accounts, Javier Solana had resigned his Marxist causes effective September 29, 1979.
Nevertheless, even I was unprepared for his very strange statement issued April 3, 2005, the day after the pope's death. It gave 'condolences to the Catholic Church for the disappearance' of Pope John Paul II. "DISAPPEARANCE"?!

That brought back some troubling memories from my earliest days of researching the New Age Movement. David Spangler had written in his book, REVELATION: THE BIRTH OF A NEW AGE that those who did not receive their New Age 'messiah' would disappear. They would be released from 'physical incarnation' to go to another dimension. Hopefully, this was not Solana's interpretation. However, considering that his mother was into Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh cum "Osho" and his grandfather appeared on the same letterhead as with David Spangler as endorser's of Donald Key's (a former Lucis Trust administrator who worked with New Age pioneers Alice and Foster Bailey) Planetary Citizens, who knows?
Considering that Solana has flown his Club of Rome flags so openly on his official bios is another hint that he might have leanings sympathetic to this world of occult interpretation. Solana is a capable linguist and writer, employing equally capable linguists and writers. I am certain that he would not have given casual thought to a public statement issued on the death of what he called such a "great European" as the Pope? So, why did Solana choose the word "disappear"? I for one would like to know. Maybe there is an innocent explanation. Maybe not.

In my first two blogs, I wrote about two cheery personalities: George Monbiot and Bill Moyers. Both had harshly taken on the Evangelical world, branding them 'dangerous extremists.' I found their opposition somewhat hypocritical in view of their open evangelism of the far more bizarre and extreme New Age religions. Today on a very different search, I found a piece indicating that Monbiot had not taken on just what he calls "bonkers," i.e., fundamentalists. He hates Roman Catholics in general and the recently passed Pope John Paul II, in particular, going so far as to accuse the good Pope of "genocide" for what actions? For condemning condom use.

Aren't you glad these New Age 'reformers' (so-called) such as Monbiot and Moyers are for 'peace, light and love'? Whatever would they be like if they weren't? What wonderful equal opportunity haters they have turned out to be!

Between my husband and myself, an extraordinary amount of reading is accomplished. Barry reads book reviews and mostly fiction. I read internet content and mostly non-fiction. We both read magazines. Barry listens sometimes sympathetically, sometimes not to my concerns. Occasionally, he hands me something substantiating them. This morning was one of those times. Barry handed me March 24th’s The New York Review. The number one featured story's headline read:

American Christians who take the Bible as gospel truth send “shivers down my back” reported Moyers. He took somebody else as ‘gospel truth’ – somebody I analyzed in an earlier column at FulfilledProphecy.com: George Monbiot. This is in addition to his true canon of occult scripture, the now dead Theosophist, Joseph Campbell, whose occult beliefs and ridicule of Christianity Moyers helped evangelize over nearly the whole of television – both major networks and public broadcast stations.
Moyers has now joined Monbiot (to whom he concedes he is ‘deeply indebted) in storming Christian ramparts in a growing crescendo of a song sung to the tune of a popular Christian one with a similar name: Backward Christian Soldiers! We must be defeated, or our world view eradicated at minimum, to
1. Make the world safe for Moyers’ five grandchildren;
2. To defeat potential environmental degradation;
3. To insure global mental health.
There were seven seals of Revelation. my studied opinion is that we may (as opposed to 'we are') be further along the prophetic timetable than even Tim LaHaye might guess – that we could possibly even be in the time of the very seals themselves. The first five seals were:
1. The Rider on the White Horse – the antichrist going forth to conquer.
2. The Rider on the Red Horse – fighting and killing breaking out across the earth.
3. The Rider on the Black Horse – inflation – luxury for some amid poverty and shortages for others (‘but touch not the oil and the wine.’)
4. The Rider on the Pale Horse – death, plagues, more fightings and killings, devastation;
5. The bodies under the altar crying out, “how long Lord, how long?” They were given white robes and told to rest a little longer until “their fellow servants should be killed as they were killed.”
Where Tim LaHaye and I might differ is that we are taken out of here before any of these events occur, including but not limited to the emergence of the anti-christ. Otherwise, why might the Bible prophets of old have saved their pity for our generation, living as they did in such barbaric times themselves?
Knowing the history of World War II and how the campaign of marginalization preceded the slaughter of the Jews, it is frightening to see the campaign shape up here. Moreover, I am well acquainted with the contents of an important New Age book by English esotericist Peter LeMesurier. Published initially by the Findhorn community's Thule Press (note that was also the name of Hitler's initial esoteric affiliation), LeMesurier's THE ARMAGEDDON SCRIPT, was complete with a fake staged second coming of ‘Christ’ with sufficient detail to convince the average Jew and Christian it was the expected thing. LeMesurier's 'script' had roles for even participating 'cosmically conscious' agnostics and atheists educated in Jungian psychology, determined to exorcise ‘Christian archetypes’ from the global collective conscious. I am starting to more than suspect this is precisely what we are leading up to: global revulsion and repulsion against us. It was prophesied, it is happening. I am also starting to suspect that some in the Christian Reconstruction Movement, so-called have a secret society mentality and are agents-provocateurs in our collective Christian midst, always ready to supply excuse to wage war on the 'fundamentalisms' of the rest of us.
As regards the entire jihad cum 'Christian Reconstruction' mentality, I revert to increasingly marginalized Scripture as set forth in part in John 16:2:
"They will put you out of the synagogues (churches), yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. ..."
One more thing. THE ARMAGEDDON SCRIPT beautifully encapsulated a New Age strategy of which I have been aware for the last 24 years: pit the target groups off against each other, so that in a massive mutual venting of long pent up aggression, the ‘massed forces of the Old Age’ will go on to defeat each other.
What are these so-called ‘massed forces of the Old Age'? As defined in every New Age book I have ever read: Peoples of the Book – monotheistic worshippers. Jews, Christians, and yes, even Moslems. We point to extremist literature in their camp. All doing so should know about what we in the law call PRECEDENT. That precedent has now been established as our enemies just as gleefully point to our extremist literature with authors such as Rousas John Rushdoony, Gary Marrs, David Chilton, and Gary North calling for the extermination of all dissidents against their calls for physical slaughter of just about everybody disagreeing with them.
The book of Revelation, which yes, I do take unapologetically literally, reads: They overcame the beast by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony and they loved not their lives unto the death. Let us not play into the enemies hands in either a propaganda nor a physical war! We’ve got to trust God alone through this one – not what Gary North calls the “3 G’s” – gold, guns, and groceries.

Dear George(s) Monbiot and Felos -- Who’s calling whom ‘bonkers’ – The New Age (crack)pots calling the Christian kettles 'black'!
Marginalization of opposition is a time honored tactic. The first step in removing something unwanted in society is delegitimizing or dehumanizing it. I began speaking and writing against the New Age Movement in 1981. Although I have been accused of marginalizing the New Agers (which to an extent, I certainly hoped to do), my attention was called to them by their obvious active campaign of marginalizing us. It seems that in the New Age world, everything is good for one but monotheistic religion. All expectations of the future, no matter how bizarre are ‘hopeful,’ save for those we were told to expect by sacred scripture.
A bold shot was fired across the Christian bow in April 2004. George Monbiot, reportedly the son of an evangelical family wrote an article first appearing in London’s GUARDIAN UNLIMITED, being internationally googled that day, saying, “their beliefs are bonkers, but they are at the heart of power.’ Monbiot held up to ridicule every legitimate prophesied Christian apocalyptic belief and expectation. He talked sneeringly about caricatured beliefs of a rapture as “flying nudists” and people flying out of their ‘pyjamas.’
At the time of that writing, Monbiot had just released his own new book, Manifesto for a New World Order. It called for a proletariat led revolution. I purchased the book and read every page of it in the most appropriate room in my house for Monbiot’s own evidence of “bonkers” -- my bathroom!
Having long studied the New Agers and having debated so many of them over the years, I recall a 1982 radio debate I had with an Arlington, Texas New Ager. He listened politely for awhile and then said, “well, she doesn’t sound crazy, but what she is saying is perfectly absurd. Lady, you’ve got us all wrong – we’re not about that. We’re a cybernetics revolution. In the past, if I needed money, I had to go to the bank and present my driver’s license and other pieces of identification. Now all I have to do is go and present a card.”
I interrupted and said, “Yes, and next thing you know, all you will have to go and present is your right hand or forehead.”
He reacted swiftly and angrily. “Why most ministers no longer take that part of the Bible literally – besides, what’s the difference. You take a credit card now or for the sake of convenience for those who might lose those cards, you take a chip . . . what possible difference could that make? Only your silly religious beliefs could interfere with a convenience like that.”
I again interjected myself: “ ‘Silly religious beliefs’? Ok, let’s talk about some of yours – “Plant Devas”, “Luciferic initiations”, shamans, vibrations, healing crystals . . .”
The gentleman cleared his throat and said, “There’s kooks in every movement.” I said, “yes, but unfortunately, they’re running yours.”
I was thinking about that this morning and wondering if it was just ‘coincidental’ that George Monbiot wrote a positive book about his vision for a New World Order at the same time that New Agers I had been tracking since 1981 were bragging they were in final stages of implementation. So, thanks to the guys who invented google.com, I found that George Monbiot hardly had standing to call Christian religious beliefs bonkers. The folks he was openly hanging with had religious beliefs of their own that far surpassed the bizarre. Since I had trapped the Arlington, Texas gentleman with the Findhorn community evidence, I wondered if maybe I had only to venture that far to see where Monbiot was coming from as well. My hunch was correct! In fact, one notable soon forthcoming Findhorn conference (Findhorn being the main headquarters for the plant deva and ‘luciferic initiation crowed) dealt with ‘sex and magic.’ So, George Monbiot was hanging with the sex and magic(k) crowd?!
Other hecklers besides Monbiot have recently been exposed. As recently dredged from Florida press archives, another New Ager daring to ridicule traditional concepts of sanctity of life is one George Felos, Esq., attorney for recently eliminated Terri Schiavo's husband! That George claims to talk telepathically to the souls of those he would eliminate and stops planes by his thought in midair. What a candidate for superman! I would have love to have conducted that evidentiary hearing that Judge Greer evidently never permitted. The only legal difficulty would have been permitting the judge to allow me to call Felos as an adverse party witness!
George Monbiot is concerned that people who have what he calls these “bizarre beliefs” have access, limited as it may be, to the public square and media. And what of those with whom he hangs? What does he want to do about that problem? Always ready with the quip, George Monbiot pithily says:

In the United States, several million people have succumbed to an extraordinary delusion . . . Jesus will return to Earth when certain preconditions have been met. . . The legions of the antichrist will then be deployed against Israel, and their war will lead to a final showdown in the valley of Armageddon. The Jews will either burn or convert to Christianity, and the Messiah will return to Earth. . . . before the big battle begins, all "true believers" (ie those who believe what they believe) will be lifted out of their clothes and wafted up to heaven during an event called the Rapture. Not only do the worthy get to sit at the right hand of God, but they will be able to watch, from the best seats, their political and religious opponents being devoured by boils, sores, locusts and frogs, during the seven years of Tribulation which follow.

George Monbiot successfully exploited the media and us. It is time we caught on. Just who is calling whom ‘bonkers’?
