Waiting is the hardest part

ony Blair, David Miliband, and Javier Solana must be going through some anxiety-laden times right now. My suspicions are that Javier Solana does not really intend to retire, but time and events will tell. I have suspected that if he does retire that English Foreign Minister, 44 year old David Miliband will be his likely successor. I have also suspected that David Miliband lacks Javier Solana's experience to handle the military as well as the foreign policy aspects of the complex, powerful position that Javier Solana himself shaped. Now it appears that the English people themselves are in large part opposed to either Tony Blair or David Miliband ascending to powerful positions in the European Union. UPDATE: And if what is below weren't enough, I just caught Dorothy Margraf's terrifying contribution to my data bank as shown in the picture to the left. You can read that Soros - China horror story in full by clicking here.

According to a statement delivered by his emissary to a Middle Eastern audience, the current head of the United Nations insists that Jerusalem serve as a capital city for two countries: Israel and Palestinian Union.

Jerusalem is to be a center of holiness and sanctity for the entire world.

I am grateful to internet email correspondent Darrell Trees for directing my attention to this rapidly breaking news. You may read the entire UN statement delivered on Mr. BanKi Moon's behalf by Robert Serry. Serry is the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process. He is also Mr. Ban Ki Moon’s Personal Representative to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority.

In relevant part, his statement read:

For Muslims, Jews and Christians, for Israelis and Palestinians, and for peoples around the world, Jerusalem represents a place of faith and longing, a symbol of aspirations for nationhood, and a sacred space that must be open to all. As we are constantly reminded, events in Jerusalem can undermine trust on the ground and be felt in distant lands. It is for this reason that we must ensure that the holy city becomes a true symbol of peace, bringing people together and marking a new, more positive era for the whole region.

As has long been agreed between Israelis and the Palestinians, Jerusalem is a core issue that must be resolved through negotiations, along with all other core issues. The international community does not recognize Israel's annexation of East Jerusalem, which remains part of the occupied Palestinian territory subject to the terms of the Fourth Geneva Convention. If peace is to be achieved, the goal must be for Jerusalem to be the capital of two States living side-by-side in peace and security, with arrangements for the holy sites acceptable to all. This is the road to the fulfillment of both the vision of Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, and the yearning for peace of people from all over the world.

You may read the entire speech by clicking here.

Ban ki Moon's prepared statement for his emissary concluded by saying "The road ahead will not be easy, but only with the achievement of a two State solution, and a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace, will Jerusalem be fully restored to its rightful place as a symbol of sanctity, brotherhood and peace for the entire world."

Ugly pressures to Israel from changed USA stance, Goldstone report

Armageddon Script in Action?

A phrase from the Book of Daniel reads "and the end will come as a flood." It could not have meant a flood of waters. The true meaning of God's rainbow (not the New Age 'antahkarana -- the perverted 'rainbow) was that this would never happen again. I believe that meant that it would happen so fast, we might not know what really hit us.

Whether that is the case or not -- time and events will tell -- things are happening F - A - S - T!

The "Goldstone Report" by a commissioned UN investigator charges Israel with war crimes over the Gaza operation earlier this year. Israel was given a short period of time to conduct its own investigation. Israel is caught between this and a possible referral to the International Criminal Court. The USA, it appears, will no longer be defending Israel.

It is looking like their only remaining "friend" may be Javier Solana. He says he has done about all he can do. Looking at internet press coverage, we read:

But faced with the defense establishment’s uncompromising position that no officers or soldiers should be put in the line of fire of "any inquiry commission," Netanyahu did another turnabout on Sunday evening.

At a top-level meeting he again rejected an independent inquiry, announcing instead the setting-up of special panel "to counter" the Goldstone report by offering "recommendations for action on the legal, diplomatic, and political front."

The panel, headed by a close ally of Netanyahu, Justice Minister Yaakov Ne’eman, is also charged with looking into the army’s own internal investigations into alleged wrongdoing by troops during the war.

That’s hardly expected to relieve the international pressure.

U.S. President Barack Obama has declared that he trusts the Israeli legal system to conduct a proper investigation. With his twists and turns, Netanyahu is increasing doubts about Israel’s political system.

The prime minister may face another difficult encounter with the U.S. president when they meet again, as they are scheduled to do in Washington in a fortnight.

So far Netanyahu has even failed to advance his argument that there is a more urgent imperative than the "flawed" Goldstone recommendations – the need to alter the laws governing international warfare. Netanyahu insists that the existing laws of warfare are no longer applicable to "the contemporary reality of having to combat terrorist entities in asymmetric wars."

That he has fallen short of convincing his international interlocutors that this should be the basis for assessing the rights and wrongs of what happened in Gaza was made plain by the EU diplomacy and defense chief Javier Solana.

In an interview with the Tel Aviv daily Ha’aretz last Friday, Solana walked the thin line between those who advocate using the Goldstone report to put Israel in the dock and those who are wary of what damage this might do both to international efforts to contain terrorism and in advancing Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking.

"In yesterday’s world, there were wars of armies against armies, and there were laws and conventions that dealt with the conduct of such wars," Solana acknowledged. "It is necessary to invest thought in the changing situation in which it is difficult to implement the classic rules of war."

"But," Solana stressed, "until new rules are in place, we must obey the old ones."

So, Solana essentially says that since we are in new times we must have changed laws! Sounds like something I read somewhere in an ancient book. Given this predicament, it is becoming easier to see how somebody like Solana might look like a type of pseudo-Savior to a beleaguered and increasingly isolated country.

I hope I'm wrong.

"They will call 'evil' good and good 'evil.'" It's disturbing enough when it happens elsewhere in our society, e.g. the State of Massachusetts, Vermont legalizing same sex marriage. Also, our USA President who campaigned saying he believed marriage should be between opposite sexes was recently quoted as saying same sex marriage deserved the same legitimacy and respect as opposite sex unions.

When it happens in a purportedly Christian church, the disturbing factor increases geometrically.

Such is the case with the Synod of the Lutheran Church of Sweden. Per The Local: Sweden's News in English it has now said "YES TO GAY MARRIAGE." You may read the whole sorry story by clicking here.

What's next? Loss of tax exempt status to USA and Canadian churches that refuse to hold same sex nuptials?

There's an old hymn: "How long Lord Jesus, how long, how long -- Till we sing the glad song, hallelujah, Christ returneth, hallelujah, amen."

Lately, it's been "a thrill a day" on apparent prophetic fulfillment. Judge Judy said the "old generation would have to die out" for same sex marriage to gain public approval to the extent she already expressed. If this keeps up, many of us will probably be indeed dead -- from heart attacks generated by the increasing shocks to sensibilities and mores that have existed for thousands of years.

May the Lord help us all!

I will be doing my internet radio program at 8 p.m. Eastern time, about 1 1/4 hours from now. Tune in and STAY TUNED!

"Mediterranean Summit Nixed"

Incentives are obviously growing for the European Union to cancel its responsibilities to Israel under its Treaty of Association as part of the reconfirmed Barcelona Process. This is also known as the European Neighbourhood Process. Saturday night I posted a story that this was an ominous threat. Today, it is reported as reality. You may read the full story by clicking here.

The European Neighbourhood Policy action plans are up for mid-term review in mid-2010. You may read them from the EU official site for the ENPI by clicking here. Herb Peters thought this could possibly be the 70th week of Daniel prophecy in action. I tentatively concur, but time and events will eventually tell.

It's now appearing that "Food for Oil" wasn't the only scam global trotting New Age activist Maurice Strong was involved in. According to this story which Susanna forwarded me by Judy McLeod of the Canada Free Press and forensic researcher/writer David Hawkins, the carbon credits scheme was an even bigger one. Since the story is no longer on the front page of the Canada Free Press, I thought I would take the liberty of republishing it here. Since the Canada Free Press made one of my back News with Views articles on the same Mr. Strong a Sunday front page headline, I thought turn-about might be fair play.

For the record, I did earlier analyses on some of the origins of the scheme, a significant part of which were traceable to an English violist. You may read them by clicking here and here.

Now, here's the text to Judy McLeod's CANADIAN FREE PRESS article:

Entity behind Kyoto conned public

by Judi McLeod & David Hawkins

Thursday, April 21, 2005 Cover Story

(David Hawkins, Foundation Scholar-Cambridge University, and founder of the Citizen's Association of Forensic Economists at Hawks’ CAFE, and CFP investigative journalist Judi McLeod, have teamed up to write a series of articles on the UN’s radical socialist agenda executed across Intranets and virtual private networks, operated by the self-styled "Global Custodians". A new feature of Canada Free Press, the ongoing series combines McLeod’s investigative experience and communication skills with Hawkins’ brilliant research linking $40 trillion hedge funds, via an online portal on the 79th floor of One World Trade Center, to "disruptive technologies" developed by Canada for alleged use in the UN Oil-for-Food scam, 9/11 and Kyoto fraud.) This is the fourth in the series.

We’ve all been had.

The bottom has long since fallen out of the key group that master-minded the Kyoto Protocol credit scheme, but nobody seemed to have joined the dots.

It all began with the flight of Canadian Maurice Strong’s Earth Council from Costa Rica as noted by the National Post’s Peter Foster in May, 2004.

With no fanfare, the Earth Council landed in CH2M Hill’s Consumer Road Toronto office towers.

The Costa Rican government has been pursuing the Earth Council for payment of U.S.$1.65 million, for the wrongful sale of a tract of land it imprudently donated to the Council. The land was donated to the Council by the Costa Rican government with the agreement that, if the Council moved, it would have to return the land.

It was in 1996 when Costa Rica granted the Council the land in question. All Hell broke loose when it was discovered that the Earth Council sold the land that was not theirs to sell in the first place.

"The government cried foul, and the Earth Council upped and departed the country, citing the drain of the legal fight." (Peter Foster, National Post).

Not only was the Earth Council forced to bunk up with CH2M Hill, their hasty departure from sunny Costa Rica also seriously impacted the University of Peace where Maurice Strong was a prominent CEO.

At last count, the University of Peace was destined to relocate to Toronto’s waterfront. Former Liberal MP Dennis Mills made a pre-federal election announcement with what he said was "the permission ofCanada’s Prime Minister Paul Martin".

About a year after the Earth Council hightailed it from Costa Rica, Strong set up offices just down the hall from those of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, at UN Manhattan headquarters.

At that time, accountants for former Costa Rican President Jose Maria Figueros, were pursuing Strong.

The calendar moves ahead and now The US Attorney’s Office want to talk to Strong about oil-for-food, and he’s not in the best books of the Kekoldi Indians back in Costa Rica.

Incredibly, while Strong was organizing the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June of 1992, in the same month of the same year, Costa Rica’s Ministry of Natural Resources were filing charges against Strong and his partner in Desarollos Ecologicos S.A., Julio Garcia for building the $35 million Villas del Caribe condo hotel on land located in the Kekoldi Indian Reservation and Gandoca-ManzanilloWildlife Refuge–without official permits. Strong’s son ran the luxury hotel.

But it is the carbon credits, devised for the Kyoto Accord that could be described as the biggest scam of all time that leads to the Canada Free Press lead, "We’ve been had".

The accord may have been engineered in Kyoto, Japan but it was manufactured in sunny Costa Rica.

The blueprint can be found in a May 9, 1997 Earth Council media release, First Global Environment Commodity Goes to Market.

It happened at Braulio Carillo National Park, Costa Rica and was launched by former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Clinton welcomed Costa Rica’s launch of "the world’s first formal program to curb global warming through an international market in greenhouse gas emission reductions".

"President Clinton’s remarks followed an announcement by Costa Rican President Jose Maria Figueros that his country would be introducing Certifiable Tradable Offsets (CTOs TM) to the international market.

"Each issued CTO TM represents the halted or reduced emission into the atmosphere of one metric ton of carbon."

Like carnival hucksters, the Earth Council and friends were selling carbon credits that were the equivalent of thin air.

Proceeds from CTO TM sales would help finance Costa Rica’s further efforts to preserve and regenerate its tropical forests, with the specific intent of offsetting emissions from cars, industry and the burning of forests.

According to the Earth Council media release, "a portion of future sales proceeds will also go towards the development of an "Earth Centre" in Costa Rica. A project of the Earth Council, the Earth Centre will be an environmental, education, science and entertainment facility envisioned as a "gateway" to Costa Rica’s national parks."

How could this possibly be when the Earth Council took flight from Costa Rica?

"The carbon certificates created by the Costa Rican government and U.S. companies provide a new way to finance these investments," President Clinton said.

President Figueros saw the carbon certificate scheme as the creation of "the first tradable commodity of global benefit".

The CTO TM program was introduced to the market through a strategic alliance between Costa Rica’s government, the U.S-based Centre Financial Products Limited and the Earth Council.

"To initiate the market today, Centre Financial made the first U.S. purchase of CTOs TM in the amount of 1,000 metre tons of carbon (equaling the average carbon emissions of 900 U.S. cars," stated the Earth Council media release.

The CTO TM creators said their credibility would be ensured by "an independent certificate process being developed with technical assistance from the World Bank."

The Costa Rican office for Joint Implementation (OCIC) was working with Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS), a world leader in inspection, testing and verification, to "certify" the offsets.

Add to this mix, the entry of a Geneva-based entity called the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), brought to the table by Strong and sponsored by the Earth Council.

The Association is touted as having become one of the first "truly independent international verifiers of company emission reports and carbon credits" and can actually issue certificates that can facilitate trading.

Already recruited by IETA are some 35 major companies, including BP, Shell, General Motors and Canada’s very own BC Hydro, previously called BC Electric before the utility’s alleged 1961 expropriation from its then-owner, Power Corporation of Montreal, and just one year before Maurice Strong entered stage left.

From 1962 to 1966, Strong served as the President of Power Corp., assisted by his young protégé, a lawyer named Paul Martin.

In the controversial Kyoto credit scheme, companies are given certificates to emit fixed amounts of specific chemical compounds when it’s never been proven that man-made global warming is a real phenomenon.

Government spy commissars would have to stand sentinel at smokestacks, similar to the one that sent white smoke from the Vatican announcing the emergence of Pope Benedict XV1. But the commissars’ job would be to monitor emissions so that offenders can be caught.

Companies have been sold a bill of goods by an entity that exited the country where the non-commodities of "credits" were devised. Today, the Earth Council of Kyoto fame is nothing more than a skeleton staff and a bunch of files in the Toronto offices of one of the world’s largest environmental companies.

Could it be that forensic researcher David Hawkins is right on the money when he says that what he calls the "Kyoto Kickback Kleptocracy" should be the number one issue in June’s expected Canadian federal election?

As the Mid Point of Barcelona Process approaches, it appears Egypt and Israel are rocking the boat

UPDATES: Proofs of the existence of the mid term review of the 2007-2013 European Neighbourhood Policy. Interestingly enough, I saw no proposed post 2010 "Indicative programmes" for Israel!

There is a "European Neighbourhood Process" currently in place. It was a reconfirmation of the Barcelona Process which now is known as "Barcelona Process: Union for the Mediterranean." Both Herb Peters and I wrote extensively in past about this. I did a radio interview with Israel National Radio on February 18, 2007 about it. You may download it by going to my "Presentations for downloading" link at the right of my blogspot.

Herb believed and I concur that this was a possible fulfillment of the 70th Week of Daniel prophecy -- that a treaty would be CONFIRMED for 7 years and then broken half way through. The reconfirmation of the Barcelona Treaty that the ENP represents went into effect for a SEVEN YEAR PERIOD on January 1, 2007. My present understanding based on information Herb Peters shared with me before his death was that it is up for mid-term review in 2010. This breaking news on snags in the Barcelona Process does not bode well for the continuation of the 7 year European Neighbourhood Policy and the Treaty of Association between the European Union and Israel.

You would do well to research this on your own. I for one will continue to do so.

ANOTHER RES IPSA LOQUITUR (Legalese for "The thing speaks for itself")

Now that unexpected pressures are coming to Israel from the USA Obama administration, couldn't this potentially look very good to it?

Read full story by clicking here. The Voltaire Net story notes that this is "a very fit Solana":

A very fit Solana declared: "Allow me to say that Israel is a member of the European Union without being a member of its institutions". He added that Israel is an "integral part of all EU programmes", contributing with its eminent know-how in leading technologies.

Solana gives marching orders to the world -- Sig heil?

Javier Solana is delivering an important speech today -- to the Institute for Security Studies of the European Union. He is its boss as well as much of the rest of the European Union machinery. He interestingly claims that the European Union is now taking "executive action" towards the rest of the world.

He has ominous words for the rest of the world as to what he, Javier Solana, is expecting of them in Copenhagen this December. Read carefully!

"Dear friends,
We have a pressing policy agenda for the next few months. Climate change sits right at the top, . It is vital that we get an ambitious deal in Copenhagen that really sets the world on a low-carbon trajectory. I am concerned that the politics of climate change is falling behind what the scientists are telling us needs to happen. If left unchecked, climate change will create real havoc. And as Nicholas Stern has demonstrated: the costs of inaction vastly outweigh the costs of taking action. So we can take our responsibilities now or pay a much higher price later. And let us be clear: if we pay later, we will not just pay in financial terms, also in political terms. As European Union we have made a credible commitment on both emission targets and financing. We expect the US, China, India and many others to act in the same spirit. This is a test for the global system and a test for European Union that has invested so much leadership in this issue."
You may read the speech in its awful totality by pressing here.

Will he get his way? Time and events will tell. Solana has been awfully quiet lately about "the retirement."

Stay tuned!

The Dancing Duo: Javier Solana and Shimon Peres

UPDATE: Tony Blair's star reportedly "fading" on EU scene.
Read here for more detail.

Shimon Peres has been hosting a party in Israel this week: "Facing Tomorrow." I can safely say that if Israel has a New Ager in high places, it is Shimon Peres. Shimon Peres and Javier Solana have much in common. In fact, they were the two who executed the Treaty of Association between the European Union and Israel. That transpired on November 20, 1995. Only two days later, November 22, 1995, Israel would suffer along with other nearby parts of the Middle East, the strongest earthquake in its history. That was a 7.2 mw one epicentered at Eilat in the Gulf of Aqaba region. That was also the only earthquake I have heard of to be historically revised downwards for a time -- from 7.2 mw to one only 6.2 mw. Interestingly, the earthquake research center, Avram Hostetter. His agency had evidently put out the minimized 6.2 mw revised statistics on the quake which even the US Geological Center had reported as 7.2 mw. doing the revisionist history was established as part of the Israeli Peace Process -- "to study Jordan Valley rift phenomena." It was named the Geophysical Institute of Israel. I had interesting email correspondence with the director of that center, the one putting out the 6.2 revised data story. His name is "Avram Hostetter." He finally reluctantly admitted to me that the earthquake had been measured by the various observers from 7.1 mw to 7.3 mw with 10,000 aftershocks. He had personally, he admitted, measured it at 7.2 mw. He then added "but the public perception is 6.2 mw and that is where the public p erception shall remain."

Oh yeah, Buddy, we'll just see about that! Architects and engineers were left holding the bag on the 1995 earthquake revisionism. They were being blamed for designing buildings that could not withstand a relatively modest 6.2 quake. A 7.2 quake is many times the intensity and magnitude of the after claimed 6.2 one. There now is scholarly acknowledgement of the true magnitude of that quake. Avram Hostetter now personally acknowledges the magnitude of that post-treaty quake.

Why might anyone want to have hidden the true magnitude of that November 22, 1995 quake? Usually, like the catching of the fish, the magnitude of the quake grows greater with each telling of the tale!

The region where it occurred is important to three major world religions: Jews, Christians, and Moslems. All three religions might have read significance in the form of a divine warning coming upon the execution of an important treaty between the European Union and Israel. To be certain, they would have read DIFFERENT THINGS, but for sure, they all would have read SOMETHING into the cataclysmic event. Christians might have read it as an apocalyptic sign, Jews might have read it as punishment from God and Moslems might have read it as a punishment from God for European dealings with Israel.

For the record, my correspondence was with Avram Hostetter, director of the Geophysical Institute of Israel.

That was 1995. Since then, the Treaty of Association with Israel has been reconfirmed, "clarified" and strengthened with the European Neighbourhood Policy. That 7 year treaty went into effect January 1, 2007. It is reportedly up for mid-term review in mid 2010.

Where is the USA on all of this? According to Israeli news service Ha'aretz, Israel must be growing in suspicion towards the USA. Consider the following:

"U.S. Won't Honor Previous Understandings with Israel - Barak Ravid Israeli political officials expressed disappointment after last week's round of meetings in London with George Mitchell, President Obama's envoy to the Middle East. "All of the understandings reached during the [George W.] Bush administration are worth nothing," said one senior official. Another official said the U.S. administration is refusing every Israeli attempt to reach new agreements on settlement construction. Israel Defense Ministry chief of staff Brig. Gen. Mike Herzog spoke to Mitchell and his staff about understandings reached by former prime ministers Ehud Olmert and Ariel Sharon with the Bush administration on allowing continued building in the large West Bank settlement blocs, asking that a similar agreement be reached with the Obama government. The Israelis were stunned by the uncompromising U.S. stance, and by statements from Mitchell and his staff that agreements reached with the Bush administration were unacceptable.
An Israeli official privy to the talks said that "the Americans took something that had been agreed on for many years and just stopped everything." The Israeli envoys said the demand for a total settlement freeze was not only unworkable, but would not receive Israel Supreme Court sanction. (Ha'aretz)
Now, the obviously non-retiring Javier Solana is making nice to Israel. Why, Israel is "practically a member of the European Union," he says. He and Shimon Peres are at it again. The following words were said by Javier Solana today at friend President Peres' annual "Facing the Future" Jerusalem conference. The account which may be read in full by clicking here is from Reuters:

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel has a closer relationship with the European Union than official EU-membership candidate Croatia, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said on Wednesday.

"Israel is, allow me to say, a member of the European Union without being a member of the institutions," he said to warm applause from a conference of business and political leaders in Jerusalem. "It's a member of all the programs..."

"No country outside the continent has the type of relations Israel has with the European Union," Solana added, emphasizing Israel's participation in EU research and technology programs.

"I don't see the president of Croatia here," Solana said, looking out over the audience.

"But I have to tell you, now that he is not here, -- he is a candidate to be part of the European Union -- that your relation today with the European Union is stronger than the relation of Croatia."

I wonder where all of this is going? I suspect I know. If I lived in Israel, I suspect I would look into purchasing earthquake insurance! Another one could well be on the way.

Stay tuned!

UPDATE October 20, 2009:

Looks like Javier Solana isn't retiring in October 2009 after all. Below just in from google alerts (Friday, 10-16-2009):

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- U.S. President Barack Obama will meet with the European Union's leaders next month in Washington, the White House said Friday.

Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will sit down with Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, and High Representative/Secretary General Javier Solana on Nov. 3. The White House said the session will address a range of issues, including climate change, the global economy, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran.

Reinfeldt currently holds the rotating E.U. presidency.

The following day, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will host meetings at the State Department.

"The European Union and the United States enjoy strong relations and partner together around the world to promote peace, prosperity, and democratic freedoms, " the White House said in a statement.

It doesn't sound like a farewell party, either. Stay tuned!

The attached article by Javier Solana may be read in its entirety by clicking here.

It will be interesting to watch and see whether any successor materializes or not. It is indisputable that indeed he has made his mark and put his machinery in place with interestingly named legislation: Section 666 and Recommendation 666!

Now we shall see whether it is he or another that will benefit from his labors that I began observing on November 22, 1995 and beyond.

Sodom and Gomorrah Days for America?

When Barack Obama campaigned for President of the United States, I distinctly heard him say he believed marriage should be between a man and a woman. Today, I watched him say that marriage between partners of the same sex should be given the same respect and dignity as marriage between a man and a woman!

What next? I fear that we have gone from

And it is increasingly appearing with NO MORALITY AT ALL!

How much longer will God allow forbearance on our nation? I hope that there are a sufficient number of righteous therein to make Him hold back a little longer than he did on Sodom and Gomorrah in Abraham and Lot's day.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus! Very quickly! Please!!!!

Evidently, Solana's riding high!

From the looks of this just in story which you may read by clicking here, Javier Solana's headed six nation Geneva talks with Iran vis a vis its nuclear capabilities are going quite well.

Since, according to this article, he plans to resume talks at the end of the month, it appears to me that he may be staying on the job.

If he isn't, whoever succeeds him will have some mighty big shoes to fill.

The Lisbon Treaty -- What does it mean?

The Irish voting population has now, under great pressures, voted to accept the Lisbon Treaty. If the remaining holdouts: Poland and Czechoslovakia give in, which they are expected to do, the Treaty will go into effect on January 1, 2010.

Javier Solana promptly posted his subdued statement of appreciation to the Irish people for their vote:

"I am pleased the Lisbon Treaty has been approved by the Irish people. This will allow for a more united and efficient Europe that will be better able to defend the rights and interests of all the citizens and states of the European Union and play a greater role in the world. Today is an important day for Europe."
The British Telegraph has well described its ramifications. It also tells of the British sense of betrayal over Gordon Brown denying the Brits a chance to vote. Dutch and French voters formerly denied the EU Constitution. The "Lisbon Treaty" essentially accomplishes by binding treaty what the Constitution would have done.

Here is a portion of the British Telegraph September 9th report on British betrayal and Lisbon Treaty ramifications. You may read it in its entirety by clicking here:

A written Constitution Treaty for the EU was drafted and agreed by Europe's leaders in June 2004. Tony Blair, the prime minister of the day, promised Britons a referendum on the text, to be the first popular British vote on Europe since 1975. But the original text was dropped after voters in France and the Netherlands rejected it in two referendums. The British vote was cancelled.

Two years later most of the Constitution's provisions were resurrected in the Lisbon Treaty, a document critics say is as much of a threat to national sovereignty as the old text would have been. In one of his first major decisions as prime minister, Gordon Brown broke Mr Blair's promise to hold a referendum on the new treaty.

The treaty is intended to come into effect from the beginning of next year, but cannot do so unless all 27 member states have separately ratified it - making it binding by introducing its provisions into national law.

Even after the Irish "Yes" vote, two countries have yet to complete the formalities. Parliaments in both Poland and the Czech Republic have already approved the necessary legislation, but neither country's president has yet signed it.

In Poland, President Lech Kaczynski, an Tory-style Eurosceptic whose party is no longer in command of the parliament, is has been delaying his signing in the hope that Ireland would reject the treaty. He objects to the treaty because Poland will face a reduction in its votes on councils of ministers, while Germany gains.

Even so, he is widely expected now to sign within days.

Vaclav Klaus, the Czech president, who fears that the treaty tips the balance of sovereignty towards a European superstate, is more likely to continue to hold things up.

Defying both chambers of the Czech parliament, Mr Klaus has been accused of gambling with his country's economic future to make a minority political point.

Right-wing Czech senators, with links to the Tories, have lodged objections to the treaty with their country's constitutional court. The court may take between two and eight months to rule on them - giving Mr Klaus, egged on by his British and Czech supporters, the excuse to string things out.

Even so, Czech ministers have briefed EU officials that Mr Klaus will cave in and sign before the end of this year, enabling the treaty to enter into legal force in January.

It is a fair assumption that champagne corks were popping in Brussels quarters last night. I am suspecting that Javier Solana will suddenly re-evaluate his announced planned retirement. Whoever holds the office of EU Foreign Minister will be one very powerful personage. It is Javier Solana who has shaped that office. Right now, it appears doubtful to me that anybody would be able to digest the multi-tasked variable functions of that office to have it up and running at the speed Javier Solana has envisaged. Time and events will tell.

It is time for very serious reflection on all of our parts. May the Lord help us all!

Ireland -- from the frying pan into the fire?

There was an old expression of "Tweedledee or "Tweedledum?" Ireland threw a wrench into the gears of European wide governance which in turn was/is a desired component of global governance. As I write a new referendum is in progress and the votes await counting. The European Union bureaucracy and its wannabe leaders (Tony Blair, Felipe Gonzalez, et al) as well as Javier Solana and his successor (if he is to have a successor of which I am currently skeptical) are holding their collective breaths.

In the meantime, their leadership has called for something even scarier -- global governance:

Ireland presses for collective action to deal
with global challenges 2009-09-29 07:18:47 Print

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Irish Foreign Minister Peter Power on Monday urged for "collective action" at a time when the global community is combating challenges that have never been as "formidable, or as pressing, as those of today."

Addressing the UN General Assembly at its annual debate, which entered its fifth day here, Power pushed urgency in the UN reform to address global issues, citing a transformation in the UN Security Council "to make it more representative and reflective of twenty-first century realities."

With the latest revelation of Iran's secret nuclear facility in the city of Qom, Power pressed Iran in complying with the demands of the international community -- to cease uranium enrichment and their disclosure of information regarding their nuclear activities.

"It is for Iran to decide whether it wishes to pursue the path of engagement or to opt for increasing isolation," he said.

Referring to the humanitarian tragedy in the Sudanese region of Darfur, Power expressed hope in the work by UN and international staff, specifically mentioning Sharon Commins and Hilda Kuwuki -- two aid workers from the Irish agency GOAL who were kidnapped on July 3 in Darfur.

Calling for urgency in the situation in Gaza, Power stressed strong "accountability for the most serious violations of international law which occurred."

Touching on global issues, such as hunger and food security, maintenance of international peace and security, disarmament and human rights, Power placed emphasis on multilateralism throughout his speech for the international community.

Only one thing scarier than European wide government: Planet wide government! The European Union uses an unfinished Tower of Babel as part of its symbology. Are the Irish demanding its speedy completion?

May the Lord help us all!
