Fr. Tiso’s Tragic Theological Mistake - Helped lead to his death by hanging
Fr. Joszep Tiso (1887 - 1947) was born in Hungary to a large devout Catholic family. He was an astute scholar and excelled in both his scholastic and language abilities. His language skills included several languages including Hebrew, Aramaic and Arabic. He went on to study for the priesthood. He specialized in social justice issues of combating poverty and alcoholism. His social justice track led him to a political career. During his long political career which culminated in him becoming the President of Slovakia, he maintained a simple lifestyle, continuing his work as a parish priest and often sleeping on floors in monasteries, shunning regal homes sometimes used by religious prelates.
Nevertheless, his life ended in brutality to Jews, collaboration with Hitler, and his Execution by hanging for war crimes.
Many of his fellow prelates and the Vatican had opposed Hitler’s moves toward them; however, although reportedly initially resistant, Fr. Tiso gave into them. Why?
Some have reported that Tiso’s antisemitism developed as a result of his work for the poor. He cited Jewish merchants as exploiters of the poor in his communities. He once opened a competing grocery store to sell at lower prices more affordable to the poor he sought to aid.
One of his major biographers, James Ward, has cited compromise and collaboration as major problems in the complicated life of this man Tiso who evidently started with pure intentions.

The central, irradicable stain on Tiso’s story was his involvement in the Holocaust and other violations of human rights. In 1942, for example, in the western Slovak town of Holic, Tiso briefly commented on his state’s Jewish policy:
People ask if what we do is Christian. Is it human? Isn’t it robbery? But I ask: is it Christian if the Slovak nation wants to rid itself of its eternal enemy -- the Jew? Is it Christian? Love of self is a command from God, and this love of self commands me to remove . . . everything that damages me or threatens my life. [Emphasis added] I don’t think I need to convince anyone that the Jewish element threatened the lives of Slovaks, , , , We determined that the Jews that made up only 5 percent of the population, had 38% of the national income! , , , It would have looked even worse if we hadn’t pulled ourselves together in time, if we hadn’t purged them from us. And we did so according to divine command: Slovak, cast off your parasite.
Sadly, this sounds so very much like what we are hearing from President Trump’s lips about Mexicans and others he considers “unwanted foreigners” as well as what he calls “enemies from within: -- those who raise eyebrows against him.
Now, Fr. Tiso wore priestly vestments and worshiped regularly and presumably had read the holy books rather than merely holding a Bible in front of a Washington, DC church as did President Trump at his photo op opportunity on June 20, 2020. Trump, according to those who knew him the best, say that he assiduously avoided most churchgoing -- other than Norman Vincent Peale who did preach self-love. Trump has declared that he does not go to God to seek forgiveness. His former attorney Michael Cohen reported that Trump bowed his head with Evangelicals in meetings arranged by Cohen and when they left Trump mocked the beliefs of the participants.
Now for the huge flaws in Tiso’s biblical theology:
1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men . . . 2nd Timothy 3:1 - 5 (KJV) (Emphasis in bold added).
Besides the Lover of One’s Own self problem, the other major one with Tiso as well as those presently collaborating with Trump, Musk, and Bannon is COLLABORATION. So many politicians and true Biblical Christians know or should know that Trump’s statements about fellow human beings who like us were made in God’s image are false and untrue. Nevertheless, they follow out of fear of being cast from their church, their political party, their economic base

Attacks on Christians increasing in Israel
The Holy Land’s Christians have suffered a “disturbing rise” in attacks including spitting, physical harassment, damage to property and cemeteries, and disruption of services.
The findings are part of a report by the Jerusalem-based Rossing Center, called Attacks on Christians in Israel and East Jerusalem, which examined the increase in hostilities towards Churches and their members in 2023.
This included “a worrying increase in severe property and physical assaults” affecting communities in Jerusalem’s Old City.
Speaking to Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), Hana Bendcowsky from the Rossing Center divided up the problems faced by Christians in the region into ‘smash’ and ‘squeeze’, terms used by human rights observers.
“The ‘smash’ describes incidents such as the attack on the Church of the Flagellation, where a statue was smashed with a hammer”, she explained.
These violent attacks are mostly carried out by marginalised young ultra-Orthodox Jewish men with hardline-nationalist views, she added, stressing however that “even among the ultra-Orthodox such behaviour is not normative, the majority would not go into a church and smash a statue of Jesus.”
“And the ‘squeeze’ pushes members of the community away, it is incidents like priests being spat at or a nun being told to take off her cross when she goes to the hospital. The community is shaken, and it feels uncomfortable. You feel as though no one wants you – lay people don’t feel this so much as the clergy, but they are part of Israel and, they should feel comfortable in this homeland, and we should make sure they do”, she said.
Ms Bendcowsky added that unlike the physically violent incidents listed above, these cases of spitting or verbal harassment are carried out by “members of the ultra-Orthodox community, men and women, young and old. These could be your neighbours, you could see them playing with your children.”
Abbot Nikodemus Schnabel, of the Benedictine Dormition Abbey, in East Jerusalem, says that the spitting incidents, in particular, have become a daily occurrence. “Unfortunately, spitting harassment is part of my daily life. If I go out of my monastery it is part of my reality. It is a tiny group, I call them the hooligans of religion. Of course there are many Jews who are really wonderful people, who support us and are very happy we are here, but the sad truth is that we have this phenomenon and it is not rare. As a monastery we have also had arson attacks, hate graffiti and broken windows, and it is growing and growing.”

Ms Bendcowsky suggested that spitting has always been a problem, but modern technology has allowed it to be recorded, so there is more evidence.
Nevertheless, she believes that the 30 incidents noted last year probably only represent the tip of the iceberg.
“We need to educate people – you don’t have to like the other people, but you don’t have to spit at them when you see them in the street. The Church has the strength to say it can hold its own, as it’s been here for 2,000 years, and say it can survive, but these events can push the laity away and cause them to leave.”
The Attacks on Christians in Israel and East Jerusalem report noted that “when police intervention took place, it was helpful.”
Police presence proved effective in ending the picketing of the Carmelite monastery of Stella Maris, Haifa, by followers of controversial Rabbi Eliezer Berland. Groups of men would gather to pray loudly at the monastery’s gates, but two months of police at the site stopped the problem.
Ms Bendcowsky paid tribute to officers but said more could be done: “The police are open to working with the Church and helping the community, but they still need to be more literate about Christianity and Christians.”
She added: “The Church needs courage to report these incidents and go to the police when they happen as the situation can be complicated and they aren’t always confident that reporting these events won’t negatively affect them.”
The Rossing Center report notes that rabbis have spoken out against attacks on Christians. Following spitting attacks on pilgrims in October 2023, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef stressed such actions have no place in Judaism and Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau stressed that spitting on Christians was against Jewish Law.
“An official statement from the rabbis is very important and can mean a lot to the Churches”, Ms Bendcowsky said.
The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, agreed, saying: “we need to talk to the religious institutions, but we have to do so carefully. The more we talk about this, the stronger they feel.”
The Patriarch praised the Rossing Center for documenting these cases. “We need to know what is going on, the number of attacks, by whom, to give to the authorities. Even if they don’t do anything, they cannot say it is not happening.”
Over more than a decade, ACN has supported the Rossing Center with different projects, including the “Develop Forgiveness, Overcome Hatred” programme which draws together young Jews, Christians and Muslims and helps them learn to live together.

Palestine is, and still remains, a land full of life. The cultural, religious, landscape, and biodiversity are just a few of the many characteristics that make Palestine a land worth living and ‘dying’ for. Mahmoud Darwish, a famous Palestinian poet, in his poem “On this Land,” celebrates the beauty of Palestine and the resilience of its people. The land of Palestine is not merely a piece of property and real estate; it is a living entity, a mother that gives birth and provides for its people. Palestinians feel connected to their land like a fetus attached to his mother’s womb. And even though they have been displaced, they refuse to be uprooted. Their land continues to live in their hearts and memories, and flourishes in their imaginations. Palestinians have a very unique attachment to their land, saying, “All nations have a land to live on, but our land lives in us.”
For the past 76 years (since 1948) and on May 15th, Palestinians have been commemorating their forcible displacement from their motherland, Palestine. Al-Nakba (النكبة) is an Arabic word for catastrophe. Yet, the Arabic word is pregnant with deep meanings that in English lacks sufficient equivalence. Al-Nakba summarizes the ethnic cleansing and genocide that Zionist militia committed systematically and deliberately against the Palestinian people, the dispossession of Palestine from its indigenous people, the feeling of loss and defeat, and grieving for loved ones and land. Al-Nakba never ended. The Zionist colonial regime has constantly and for 76 years been actively subjugating and suffocating the Palestinian people. Therefore, Al-Nakba isn’t an event of the near past, but also a present reality for Palestinians. In recent months, many Israeli Zionists have been calling for a “second Nakba”. Some Zionists have celebrated the war and genocide happening in Gaza as such. A simple look at the 1948 Nakba and the current genocide in Gaza demonstrates the brutality of the Zionist regime and its attempt to erase Palestine and the Palestinians. One irrevocable consequence of the genocide and continuous Nakba is the alarming decline of Palestinian Christians and the near-extinction of Palestinian Christians in Gaza.

With that being said, the Palestinian narrative has been widely dismissed, or at worst, even discredited, as the war of misinformation and disinformation continues to wage against Palestinians. Therefore, it is important to learn with intentionality and open-mindedness about Palestine and Palestinians. Here are three practical pieces of advice:
First, read books about the Palestinian experience and theology that challenge the dominant Israeli narrative. Theologians at Bethlehem Bible College, many of whom have witnessed their families’ displacement and suffering during and after 1948, such as Alex Awad, Salim Munayer, Yohanna Katanacho, and Munther Isaac, provide valuable insights. There is an abundance of resources available online and for purchase from our gift shop.
Second, attend our bi-annual conference, Christ at the Checkpoint. The conference offers insights into our theological perspective from the context of Israeli colonization of Palestine. For more than a decade, Christ at the Checkpoint has been a platform for Christ-centered, biblically rooted, and Kingdom-oriented theology for justice and peace. Our upcoming conference “Do Justice, Love Mercy: Christian Witness in Contexts of Oppression” will be held in Bethlehem from the 21st to the 26th of May. We encourage you to attend in-person or online.
Third, come and see Palestine and the living stones, Palestinian Christians, who remain resilient despite all challenges over centuries of constant oppression. With a broken heart, we are grieving the severe decline in the numbers of Palestinian Christians in Gaza and the West Bank due to the absence of security and prospects for peace. Nonetheless, those who are rooted in the land continue to witness to God’s love for our world and share faithfully the Good News.
In these times of pain and deep grief, the Psalmist reminds us that “God is near to the brokenhearted” (Psalms 34:18). There are millions of Palestinians who are still grieving the loss of their land and loved ones. Al-Nakba hasn’t ended, neither has our mission. The Prince of Peace has commissioned us to share and be the Good News, and to be active peacemakers (Matthew 5:9) in a world groaning for peace. Therefore, your prayer, solidarity, and support for Palestinian Christians are more critical today than ever. Please pray for: (a) those are mourning the loss of their loved ones and houses in Gaza and the entire land, (b) the Palestinian Christian community in Gaza and the West Bank, (c) the Christian witness to be bold and prophetic, a light in dark times.

Fascinating thread on the DNA of the peoples of the Levant and the Middle East, coming to the important & fascinating (but hardly surprising) conclusions that the Palestinians and the Israelis are close cousins.
It demolishes two widely believed myths- that the Palestinians are outsiders who arrived with the Arab Conquests of the 6th century, and also that Israeli Jews have no roots in the land. Both groups have very strong connections to the DNA from the Bronze Age sites in the region. Israel/Palestine is the home of two closely related peoples, and both deserve to live there in freedom and safety.
Some fascinating conclusions:
1. "The truth is, everyone in the Levant is overwhelmingly descended from ancient Jews, or at the very least those genetically indistinguishable from ancient Jews...

3. "Palestinian Christians are almost genetically indistinguishable from Roman-era Levantines, people of the time of Jesus Christ, the Apostles, etc. It provides interesting speculation as to their origin. Perhaps they descend from such people, the first Jews to convert to Christianity"

Palestinian Christians
Palestinian Christians are often called the ‘living stones’ of Christianity as they can trace their history to the birth of the Church in this land 2,000 years ago. Ancestors of some families have been in the Holy Land ever since, while others migrated there in later centuries. Therefore they should be understood to be indigenous people of the Holy Land, not immigrants and not recent converts. In fact, they are the oldest Christian population on earth.
Unfortunately many Christians in other countries do not even know there are Christians in Palestine and view the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as a religious conflict between Muslims and Jews, rather than the struggle over land it truly is. Yet Christians around the world owe much to these indigenous believers and their faithful stewardship of the holiest sites of Christianity.
Once a major portion of the population in this region, today Palestinian Christians make up about 2% or less of the Palestinian population in the occupied territories, while they may comprise as much as 10% of the Palestinian people worldwide. The majority are members of Orthodox churches, second most are Roman Catholic, and then Anglican, Lutheran, and others denominations. They enjoy a respected place in Palestinian society, and a status in government, culture and business that belies their tiny percentage of the population.
These Christians strongly identify as Palestinians with the same culture and history as their Muslim sisters and brothers. In this land, Christians and Muslims have lived together peacefully for many generations. Today they suffer together under the brutal Israeli occupation and all that it entails: checkpoints, travel restrictions, confiscation of land, destruction of homes, abuse of children, beatings, killings, and more.
One of the most painful restrictions of the occupation are the limits on their freedom to worship. Tourists from around the world can visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, believed to be the site of Jesus’ burial tomb, yet Palestinian Christians who live only a few miles away cannot reach it without a special permit that they can rarely obtain, even during the Easter season.
For decades, they have been struggling nonviolently for their freedom. In the landmark Kairos Palestine Document – which has been signed by thousands of Palestinian Christians and endorsed by all the Heads and Patriarchs of the Jerusalem Churches – these Christians have issued a powerful call for justice that will lead to real peace.
As Desmond Tutu wrote to them on the occasion of the launching of Kairos Palestine in Bethlehem, December of 2009: “We are reminded by Holy Scripture that ‘when one part of the Body suffers, we all suffer’…. You are in my prayers as you launch this very special document. It is filled with grace, where it could have been filled with anger. It is filled with profound and prophetic words, and our God who neither slumbers nor sleeps will hear your cry and will be your Emmanuel.”

In that grace-filled landmark document, the Palestinian Christians’ message to fellow believers is this: “The word of God is a word of love for all His creation. God is not the ally of one against the other, nor the opponent of one in the face of the other. God is the Lord of all and loves all, demanding justice from all and issuing to all of us the same commandments. We ask our sister Churches not to offer a theological cover-up for the injustice we suffer, for the sin of the occupation imposed upon us. Our question to our brothers and sisters in the Churches today is: Are you able to help us get our freedom back, for this is the only way you can help the two peoples attain justice, peace, security and love?
They are keenly aware of their dwindling presence in the land where Christianity began, and are appalled by the brand of Christian theology that supports Zionist claims to their ancestral home, threatens their existence, and ignores their suffering and their rights as human beings and children of God.
“We also declare that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land is a sin against God and humanity because it deprives the Palestinians of their basic human rights, bestowed by God. It distorts the image of God in the Israeli who has become an occupier just as it distorts this image in the Palestinian living under occupation. We declare that any theology, seemingly based on the Bible or on faith or on history, that legitimizes the occupation, is far from Christian teachings, because it calls for violence and holy war in the name of God Almighty, subordinating God to temporary human interests, and distorting the divine image in the human beings living under both political and theological injustice.”
They also have repeatedly refuted the messaging, propagated the State of Israel and Zionist organizations, that would suggest they are suffering at the hands of their Muslim neighbors (sometimes identified in coded language as “Palestinian nationalism”) and that that is the cause of their high rate of emigration from Palestine – rather than the true cause, the ongoing oppression of the Israeli occupation.
Those that have remained in the Holy Land are steadfast in their faith and their hope which lies in God:
“In the absence of all hope, we cry out our cry of hope. We believe in God, good and just. We believe that God’s goodness will finally triumph over the evil of hate and of death that still persist in our land. We will see here “a new land” and “a new human being”, capable of rising up in the spirit to love each one of his or her brothers and sisters.”

The genetic profile of Palestinians has, for the first time, been studied by using human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene variability and haplotypes. The issue is that the funds were supposed to be going toward humanitarian ends in Afghanistan, but instead, it was alleged that they were really being used for terrorist training camps. The Vatican released a document about AI. It actually talks about the mark of the beast. I was inclined to dismiss it at first, because it came from the Vatican. But I thought to myself, "On what basis? I don't dismiss pro-life stances because they were originally Catholic before Protestants took up the cause." The conservative Evangelical Protestant churches in America seem slow to criticize not only Trump but also Elon Musk. There has barely been any mild sauce criticism trickling out from just a few voices about Trump's appointment of Paula White, because of her heresy of the prosperity gospel, and because she is a woman pastor. (Wow, they would usually jump at the chance to call an "uppity woman" a Jezebel. So that's very telling on themselves.)
Anyway, I've thought about this and prayed about it, and the thought that I keep getting back, is to have a moral focus and the idealized focus, more than a crystal ball type of focus. The book of Revelation itself takes an idealistic approach to its own typology, for example, by calling Jerusalem Babylon and Sodom and Egypt. So I stopped counting horns and heads of beasts and trying to match them up to countries and leaders. I took a step back and thought about what matches up with the ideas and the morality of the typology.
Using this approach, I can't dismiss this Vatican document about AI and its warning about the mark of the beast.

If it's only a task force, it will lack subpoena power. It won't be likely to amount to more "disclosure" of new information to the "UFO community." Constance is very unusual for being on the religious right for decades while still making a priority of Jesus' teachings in a way that is not compromised by power politics. Ever since Constantine, Christian theology has concerned itself with understanding and following Jesus - and gaining, maintaining and consolidating power.
An easy way not to have to actually listen to Jesus is to dismiss all His teachings as being all about showing us that we can never really listen to them and all we can do is depend on His atonement. In this rendition, He never really intended us to do what He says. The whole point was to set us up to fail so we'd know we need His atonement.
A corollary of this is to dismiss half the Sermon on the Mount as the Social Gospel. I don't only mean a disagreement about how to interpret it. I mean a wholesale rejection of any way of interpreting or practicing it at all, besides saying it was intended for the Jews who were under the Law, or besides saying it was setting us up to fail so we'd realize we need the Atonement.
We are in deep with serious theological problems. The reason why Constance is hated for speaking truth to power is because truth is not the goal; power is the goal.
Oh, everything Constance writes isn't the truth, but she was writing about a moral and theological truth this time. It doesn't stand or fall on the basis of whether or not you think Trump is Hitler or the Antichrist. It's a simple moral truth.
You can have love and mercy, and you can avoid dehumanizing other people, without committing to liberal politics. If you imply that you can't, then you've just undercut your own foundation more than you even realize.

I don't think any church has handled power well historically. But right now at the least the Catholic church never forgets that God is bigger than America or Trump. The priest emphasized getting right with God and helping other people do the same since he believes time is short and the age of mercy may be about to come to an end, giving way to a time of chastisement. He is clearly a staunch social conservative, but he still felt comfortable talking freely and passionately about mercy. That was incredibly refreshing. I've never seen this topic handled so well, with perfect love casting out fear to that extent.

12:16 PM I agree that my post is full of ridiculous statements that are completely made up by a self-proclaimed apostle in the New Apostolic Reformation movement. Johnny Enlow is considered a senior leader in the movement and is widely accepted and quoted as speaking truth from the mouth of God. There are millions in the movement and they played a large part in spreading disinformation, participating in J6 insurrection and getting Trump re-elected. One of the problems with the true, believing Christian church is that they do not take the influence of the NAR seriously, or even consider that it is a false church movement. Trump is identified as an apostle and Musk is identified as a prophet as stated in the above referenced post and they are declaring that angels are working with them. If you listen to the video, Enlow also says that this has all been going on behind the scenes the last four years with Trump and the military acting secretly. That is why things are happening so fast now. It's not what I believe - it's what they believe and the lies they are using to manipulate gullible Christians.
