I started this article a few weeks ago and did not complete it. I am aging now and will turn 20 in just a few ore weeks. (I'm a Leap Year Baby and get one birthday every four years whether I need it or not! Do your 4 x 20 math). I just do not have the stamina I once had -- My mother died at age 81, my father at age 63. My maternal grandfather lived to age 86 and died of colon cancer. His oldest son, my mother's older brother lived to be 95 and taught college until he was 92. So, I am not sure which set of genes I was dealt nor what age the Lord plans to take me. As the world seems to be going now, I am starting to think the lucky ones are out of here. Frankly, most of the news is very bad these days.
As you know, I have my deep reservations about Donald Trump. He is a prominent entry in my large internet file titled "Antichrist theories."
But my worries are increasing speedily about Donald Trump and frankly, I don't care if many of you violently dispute me or not. I hope you are right and I am wrong -- but I am increasingly suspecting the opposite.
Trump's probable return to power has brought strongly to my mind lately the prophecy of "THE BEAST THAT WAS DEAD AND CAME BACK TO LIFE." That Beast's "deadly wound was healed" and "ALL THE WORLD WONDERED AFTER THE BEAST." (Revelation 3:3)
Since the start of 2024, Trump's boldness in proclaiming retribution for all those prosecuting him, RINO's, what he terms "fake press", "Never-Trumpers", etc. has increased. So has his open praise of other countries' dictators: Erdogan (Turkey), Xi (China), Putin (Russia), Hezbollah (Lebanese anti-Israel militia group), Viktor Orban (Hungary), etc.

Tonight, I was so bothered by the passage of "all theWorld wondered after the beast", I decided to do an internet search to see if anybody else had similar thoughts. I found the attached 2020 item from an "anonymous" poster expressing virtually identical thoughts and interpretations that have been playing over many times in my head lately. You can read it and you can even listen to it read -- it is about a 12 minute listen. It is called "The Resurrection of Donald Trump". The author chose to be anonymous, but 3 years later, it appears that it may well be happening.
That scriptural passage It has become increasingly apparent that the vast majority of Evangelicals and many conservative Catholics believe that Donald Trump, if re-elected --- indictments and all --will be their savior or deliverer. They believe and are told that the World Economic Forum,NATO, the United Nations, the Bilderbergers, etc. will soon take over the world, cost nations their individual soveereignty, etc., etc. This is the theme of a very professional film/video iny Amazon Prime library: "Trump is God's chosen instrument to stand between them and us." The movie is literally loaded with positive images of Donald Trump, including a his sculptured head on a bust.
Quoting from one voice (Tony Perkins) early in the production saying: "There clearly is a march towards globalization. We know there is a counterforce to everything that God does. It's called Satan. He's been planning and scheming from the very beginning and we read that he does it all the way to the end.
So far, so true.
Next, the video accurately quotes Scripture from the Book of Revelation about the coming world dictator and that he will "surely be around the corner '. . . ;It's difficult to deny that we will be heading toward a global government." It tells us to look at the United Nations, the World Bank.
Am I concerned about the World Economic Forum? Yes. Am I concerned about the "World Bank"? Yes. Am I concerned about other moves toward "globalization"? Yes!
But, I am even more concerned about the deception Jesus warned us would be -- enough to deceive the Elect, if possible." (Matthew 24:24). Others have said to me: "I'm the elect, that's not possible." The minute you think it not possible for you to be deceived, you are the most vulnerable. As many of Brother Paul and Brother James' excellent videos have shown, there are too many prophesied points about the Antichrist apparently manifesting fully in Donald Trump: Wealth, Greed, lawlessness, dishonesty. I believe Trump is playing a clever game as being "our champion." I also believe that he will probably turn on us as he did so many others when Christians start to doubt his sincerity. There is absolutely no way I can ignore his posting of messianic qualities about himself nor his failure to denounce others making such messianic claims on his behalf.
And lastly, Donald Trump has claimed he has never needed to go to God and ask for forgiveness.
Well, as to the Cyrus thing. We know Cyrus was a monarch who helped restore the Jewish nation, but we have no Biblical nor other evidence as to him being supposedly a corrupt and cruel figure.

A couple of points to consider regarding the THIRD TEMPLE:
After departing from the Temple in Jerusalem, Christ was asked by His disciples regarding the last days. What did Jesus say, and, what didn't he say?

First, as prophesied by Jesus, the *Second Temple was in fact completely destroyed in 70 AD by the Romans.
While Jesus described the DESTRUCTION of the 2nd. Temple, He never once mentions anything about a Temple being rebuilt again in the future, nor does He state anything about His 'rule on the earth' for a thousand years! Don't you think if that was going to happen, He would have mentioned that to His inquiring disciples? (Note: the only place the thousand years is mentioned is in Revelation 20:4. Revelation is a book that uses types, symbols and allegorical language throughout, and this is how the thousand years is being used here. For another example, the Bible states that "God owns the cattle on a thousand hills." Does that mean that He doesn't own the cattle on the 1,001th. hill? Of course not. He owns it ALL and is not limited to the language being used here.
*Today's Western Wall, often referred to as the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem is not a wall from the 2nd. Temple, but rather, this wall is part of the remains of a retaining wall that was near the location of the 2nd. Temple. MOST Christians erroneously believe that the Western Wall is actually part of the remains of the 2nd. Temple, in direct defiance of Christ's explisive prophecy regarding its complete destruction.

I wanted to add a couple of observations to your comment above ...
First, the religious leaders, much like many of those today and throughout history, were primarily concerned about protecting the power that they enjoyed over the people. By and large, they were powerful RULERS over the people, and not servants. Jesus represented a direct threat to their power, which explains why, after themselves witnessing some of His miracles, along with numerous reports of such, they wanted to kill Him. It also explains why they turned Him over (illegally) to Pilot for execution. For years I have heard that the primary reason that the Jews rejected Jesus was because they were looking for an earthly King to liberate them from Roman rule. I don't see anywhere in the Scriptures where it actually records that as a PARTIAL claim for the Jews' opposition to Him. If there is, I'd like to see it.
Second, the real reason all rejecters of Christ is given in the Bible, and it applies to both Jews and Gentiles. It is found in this brief, but very revealing passage:
"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." - John 3:19-21
Mankind reject Christ not for a lack of knowledge, or, for some misunderstanding, or, for political reasons. All people reject Jesus Christ because they love their sin, and refuse to relinquish that sin to be ruled by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Just to set the record straight as far as the 'nature that this blog has taken,' and to paint a slightly clearer picture of the political scene here in America.
First, this blog turned political due entirely to the efforts of the owner (along with perhaps as little as two or three others). For some inexplicable reason, she believes that everyone who votes for Trump cannot be a true Christian and is a member of some type of weird cult that thinks of Trump as their 'messiah.' Virtually no one on this blog, and no one that I know, holds to this crazy viewpoint, yet, that doesn't stop her from making these utterly bogus claims. Naturally, those that have been on the receiving end of these unwarranted attacks, respond in an attempt to set the record straight, to no avail. She continues to drone on and on with the same false accusations. I truly fear for her mental and spiritual health, as evidenced by the fact that she has now become a devout follower of the ministries of two individuals that preach nothing other than Trump literally 24/7 on their website.
America has become largely what could be termed to be a spiritual desert. The churches, with very few exceptions, are entertainment centers that and are 'run' by 'pastors' that tell the congregation exactly what they want to hear. What was once described as "easy believe-ism" is the norm, not the exception. Ecumenicalism has spread across the land, and, it seems, just about no one is willing to stand for Bible truth. In short, we are at a very, very low ebb and the light of Christ's truth is increasingly becoming weaker.
I could go on, but will stop here. One question; what is the spiritual situation in New Zealand? I'd really be interested to know.

I was raised Catholic and did not take sin nor the Gospel seriously because my church membership and infant baptism were my "get out of jail free cards". I had never opened a Bible in the entire 24 years of my life. I did see the hypocrisy in my own life and in the lives of those around me in parochial school and with my family, but I mostly blew that off, too, blaming it on the human condition and an impossible standard (and that part I got right), but I did not understand the cross -- and 12 years of catechism and sermons at mass did not change that. It was only when I read the Bible for myself that my eyes were opened. I could not earn salvation. That and many other catholic teachings conflicted with clear Scripture. I was baptized at age 24 and have walked in gratitude for the cross and Christ for over 30 years. I'll always be thankful for the friend who first challenged me in love andcwith gentleness and respect. She's still my dearest friend today. ❤❤❤ Our adult son is even a Bible teacher who has a heart for the great commission. His life in Christ is so rich and full. I praise God for rescuing not just me, but our children and grandchildren from a false religion.

I know Protestants who believe they have an 'AUTOMATIC insurance policy' into Heaven... just because they uttered a few WORDS: "I believe Jesus Christ is my Lord & Savior and died for my sins."
Well, WORDS alone do NOT provide an AUTOMATIC passage into Heaven... unless each and everyone of us also OBEYS the 10 Commandments.

He told me that a friend of his (whom I do not know) had a very bad reaction after getting jabbed just 3 days prior and was rushed to the hospital. This was 2 years ago. They found 'multiple blood clots.' He is still alive "miraculously," but his life is ruined. He can't do anything and he is still battling blood clots.

I thought I was beyond shockable, but this week has been profoundly shocking for me. I spent the bulk of my adult life on the right-wing side of things, generally rooting for the Republican Party, because I thought that party best served America. People like Sarah Palin and Donald Trump chased me out of the Republican orbit (gradually and then all at once), but I have still held out the hope that my many friends on the right are kind of like an occupied country. They have to mouth the Trumpian prejudices to survive in this era, but somewhere deep inside, the party of Reagan still lives in their souls.
After this week, and the defeat of the immigration-Ukraine-Israel package, it’s hard to believe that anymore. Even if some parts of the bill survive, the party of Eisenhower, Reagan and McCain is just stone cold gone — and not only among House Republicans, but apparently among their Senate colleagues too.
My progressive readers are now thinking: Have you not been paying attention? Donald Trump has owned this party for years. If he told them to kill the immigration compromise because he needed a campaign issue, they were going to kill that proposal.
To which I respond: I don’t think you quite understand what just happened. This wasn’t just about Republicans cynically bending their knee to Trump. Rather, I’m convinced that Trumpism now pervades the deepest recesses of their minds and governs their unconscious assumptions. Their fundamental mental instincts are no longer conservative, but Trumpian.
Here are some of the convictions that Republicans had to assent to in order to do what they did this week:
Democracy is for suckers. In a democratic society, opposing parties negotiate and try to strike a compromise that’s, on balance, better than the status quo. This week’s immigration-Ukraine-Israel package is one of the most one-sided compromises I’ve ever seen. Republicans got most of their long-term priorities, while Democrats got almost none of theirs. “By any honest reckoning, this is the most restrictive migrant legislation in decades,” the Wall Street Journal editorial board noted. “This is almost entirely a border security bill, and its provisions include longtime G.O.P. priorities that the party’s restrictionists could never have passed only a few months ago.”
And yet Republican after Republican came out against the package, arguing it doesn’t have absolutely everything they want. They have adopted the Trumpian logic that under him, they will never have to compromise. The dictator will issue commands, and everything Republicans want will just happen. Meanwhile, Republican James Lankford, who conducted a lavishly successful negotiation, is being savaged on the right side of the internet for being a weak-willed compromiser.
Entertainment over governance. Under Trump, the G.O.P. is less a governing party and more an ongoing entertainment complex. It doesn’t have supporters; it has audience members. The Trump show has certain story lines: Washington is an unholy mess that will never get anything right. America is in chaos. Joe Biden is an inflexible left-wing radical who will never tack to the middle. Only Trump can save us. Passing this package would have upended all these narratives. The package had to be destroyed in order to save the story.
Showmanship has eclipsed even simple governance. Republican senators just ditched a compromise that could have passed, and they are already heroically parading behind ideas that have no shot at getting 60 votes. As Mitt Romney put it: “Politics used to be the art of the possible. Now it’s the art of the impossible. Meaning, let’s put forward proposals that can’t possibly pass so we can say to our respective bases — look how I’m fighting for you.”

Foreigners don’t matter. When Dwight Eisenhower defeated Robert Taft for the 1952 Republican nomination, the G.O.P. became an internationalist party and largely remained that way for six decades. Now isolationism is the dominant G.O.P. pose. Isolationism is the attitude that the outside world doesn’t matter much to American security and that global problems can be safely ignored. It’s based on the fictional notion that America once lived in splendid isolation until those elite globalists took over. Opposing further aid to Ukraine is the quintessential isolationist act, a position that now seems to be embraced by a majority of Senate Republicans and an implacable majority in the House.
Today’s Republican isolationists have no grand strategy. Their foreign policy approach is based on a non sequitur — that because we have to spend more defending our southern border, we have to spend less defending Ukrainian democracy. People like J.D. Vance really seem to believe that if we let Vladimir Putin win his wars of conquest in Europe, it will have no consequences for us back home. Somewhere even Neville Chamberlain is gaping in disbelief.
Lying is normal. Politicians always distort proposals they disagree with, but Trump has given his colleagues permission to make things up with abandon. In the hours after the package was released, Republican officeholders produced a Vesuvius of misinformation about what was in it.
Representative Steve Scalise asserted that the package “accepts 5,000 illegal immigrants a day.” No, actually it doesn’t, a Fox News reporter explained. Representative Dan Bishop asserted that undocumented immigrants “not from Mexico or Canada won’t be counted toward total encounters.” No, the financier Steven Rattner corrected, this provision refers only to unaccompanied minors, of whom very few arrive from noncontiguous countries. The president doesn’t need new laws to halt illegal immigration, Speaker Mike Johnson asserted. Then why did House Republicans go to all the trouble to pass H.R. 2 last year, an attempt to create an ambitious new law to halt illegal immigration?
Trump has erased the assumption that credibility is a nice thing to have.
America would be better off in a post-American world. As Noah Rothman noted in National Review, if you had presented the pre-Trump G.O.P. with an enforcement-only immigration bill linked to provisions to contain Russian, Chinese and Iranian aggression, you would basically have fulfilled every Republican fantasy all at once. But today’s party rejected the deal, not only because it didn’t like the immigration bits, but also because it no longer believes in the American-led international order.

The American economy is enjoying one of its greatest growth periods of our lifetimes, and yet many Republicans have persuaded themselves that the nation is in ruins and can’t afford foreign commitments. In the 60 years after World War II, America and its allies built and preserved a global order that produced a world vastly safer and richer than the world that came before, and yet Republicans have persuaded themselves that the United States is impotent, that its foreign entanglements perpetually fail. The Republicans say they oppose Xi Jinping’s regime in China, and sometimes even pretend to oppose Putin’s regime in Russia, but operationally they also share many of Xi’s and Putin’s goals — to reduce America’s role in the world, to destroy America’s confidence in its ability to project power, to reduce America to a regional superpower.
We’re living through one of the most dangerous periods of modern times. As the historian Hal Brands noted recently in Foreign Affairs, the situation today is reminiscent of the mid- to late 1930s. Back then, fascist Italy assaulted Ethiopia. Hitler remilitarized the Rhineland. Japan ravaged China. These three regional conflicts had not yet metastasized into a global world war, but even in 1937, Franklin Roosevelt warned of an “epidemic of world lawlessness.”
That epidemic of lawlessness is back. Russia, Iran and China have started or raised regional tensions in ways that threaten to coalesce into something truly nasty. Groups like the Houthis seek to fill the vacuums left by American weakness. The storm clouds are gathering.
You’d think these trends would inspire a note of seriousness among the men and women elected to represent the people of this nation. It hasn’t. Trumpism was once a posture most Republican officeholders donned to preserve their political viability. But it’s an eternal verity of human psychology: If you wear a mask long enough, eventually the mask becomes who you are [or, the red cap of MAGA (Latin for 'witch') - 5th degree of Satanism -- if the cap fits ...].

With Tucker Carlson’s exit from his perch on Fox News, his activities are in the news less, but they continue to be influential for millions who now watch his broadcasts on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Case in point is his alarming interview late last month with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Orbán has transformed Hungary into what he describes as an “illiberal state” – openly embracing autocracy – and recently declared his intent to stay in power for more than another decade. To Tucker and many on the American right, Orbán’s government is a model to emulate in the United States. That should be concerning to any American who values their own democracy. And this isn’t the first time Orbán has had a prominent U.S. platform – just a year ago, he spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, warning ominously, “Politics are not enough. This war is a culture war.”
Carlson’s dialogue is the latest alarm bell about the threat posed by Orbán and the disinformation spread by him and his authoritarian compatriots. For example, Carlson claimed that Hungary’s press “is much freer than ours.” That’s not true. Orbán and his allies have wrested control of much of the country’s media, a classic tactic of autocrats as they consolidate their rule. Carlson also praised Orbán for supposedly winning a “fair election” in 2022. That is not true either. Independent observers concluded that the election was neither free, nor fair, because it did not provide opposition parties with a “level playing field.”
In the interview, Orbán claimed that his liberal critics in Washington are the ones who are “against freedom” and an “enemy of freedom.” That is also false. Orbán’s democratic backsliding has been widely documented. As a result, Freedom House, an independent democracy watchdog, has downgraded Hungary to only “partly free” in its most recent rankings.
Americans should pay close attention to how Hungary lost its democracy. Leaders on the American right seem to be embarking on a similar course. It is easy to see the parallels between the Hungarian prime minister and the policies of former President Donald Trump or Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. And the political movements of Trump and his imitators like DeSantis are intertwined with Orbán’s.
For example, a key pillar of Orbán’s and Trump’s political program is conspiracism – a reflexive belief that dark forces are undermining the will of the people. In typical autocratic fashion, Orbán and Trump claim that only they can save their people from these nefarious actors. In fact, Orbán told Carlson that only Trump “can save the Western world.” Carlson is America’s chief propagandist for this conspiratorial and apocalyptic worldview. It is inherently corrosive for democracy. In this view, American politics are no longer about differences over policy, but instead part of an epic and zero-sum civilizational struggle.

Consider the “great replacement theory,” which is based on the belief that the Western elite seek to replace white Americans and Europeans with immigrants of color. This racist allegation was once confined to the fringes of the internet, on websites where white nationalists and other extremists stewed in their imaginary grievances. It is no longer fringe. Orbán made it central to his political program, while Carlson promoted it on his highly rated cable show. During his May 2022 inauguration speech, Orbán claimed he was defending Hungary against the “great European population replacement program, which seeks to replace the missing European Christian children with migrants, with adults arriving from other civilizations.” Meanwhile, Carlson insisted on his former Fox News show that the “great replacement theory” wasn’t crazy, InfoWars-style content, but instead the Democrats’ “electoral strategy.”
Trump and Carlson wield conspiracy theories as weapons against the U.S. government. Carlson eagerly promoted Trump’s lie that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged.” After thousands of Trump’s enraged supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, Carlson lied on their and Trump’s behalf – falsely claiming that the U.S. government had somehow tricked Trump’s “patriots.” This is obviously nonsense, yet many on the American right believe it. The cumulative effect of the conspiracy theories promoted by Trump, Carlson, and their ilk, is to undermine confidence in America’s democracy. As a result, most Republicans still believe that the 2020 presidential election was somehow stolen from Trump.
The truth is that Orbán is an expert at altering the rules of the game in his favor. Hungarians vote in every election, but in a tilted system that all but guarantees victory for Orbán and his Fidesz party. Orbán and Fidesz have rewritten Hungary’s constitution to change how votes are cast and counted. These changes have benefited Fidesz, while making it much more difficult for opposition parties to compete and win.
After his party won the 2010 election with more than 50 percent of the vote and captured two-thirds of the seats in parliament, for instance, Orbán and his legislative minions amended the Hungarian constitution to cut the size of the parliament in half. Fidesz then gerrymandered Hungary’s voting districts to favor conservative rural areas over the comparatively more liberal cities. As a result, urban voters are underrepresented in Hungary’s parliament. Across two of Hungary’s election cycles, from 2014 to 2018, Fidesz used this rigged system to consolidate its power even while failing to win 50 percent of the nationwide vote. Only in 2022, after severely restricting opposition media and enacting other anti-democratic measures, did Fidesz finally again garner more than half of Hungarians’ votes.
In a functioning democracy, Orbán’s overreach would be held in check by an independent judiciary. But here, too, Orbán has followed the autocrat’s path by stacking the courts with loyalists and establishing a parallel administrative court system that is loyal to him, not the rule of law.

It’s easy to see why Carlson and his followers may find Orbán’s autocratic approach to be appealing. Trump and other far-right leaders are popular in America’s predominantly white rural counties, but far less so in the more diverse and populous metropolitan areas. That is why Carlson and other rightwing extremists need something like Orbán’s seizure of all the main levers of political, judicial and media power if they have any prospect of transforming America along the anti-democratic lines they envision.
In a 2021 speech in Hungary, Carlson began by minimizing his role, remarking that “we just in the end run a cable show, we’re not elected to anything, we have no actual power.” He no longer has his cable show, but he continues to spread his anti-democratic conspiracy theories and anti-government extremism to millions on social media. Americans must pay very close attention to Carlson and to Orbán so that the style of governance they are advocating never takes root on American soil.

The antidote is Jesus Christ alone.

3) In an election year, change any state balloting laws deemed unhelpful through administrative fiat or court order to favor your political candidate.

5) Raid the home of any opposition ex-president who removed classified files; exempt any sitting president of your party who did the same.

9) Exempt thousands of arrested rioters from charges of 120 days of arson, looting, injuring 1,500 law enforcement officers, and assault—but only if they are radical supporters of your party.
10) Excuse any demonstrator or rioter for desecrating public monuments and cemeteries or shutting down bridges and freeways, or swarming and disrupting the Capitol Rotunda—but only if they agree with you and/or are pro-Hamas. Otherwise, ensure the charged face lengthy prison sentences.

Why Trump's use of "The Snake" is so ironic

Donald Trump likes to quote from a song called “The Snake” at his rallies as a way to disparage immigrants.
Trump’s use of music and musical references at his rallies has always been odd.
Artists like Bruce Springsteen, Queen, and the Rolling Stones have protested the use of their music at his events.
And some of the choices are pretty odd: the gay anthem “YMCA” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son,” for example.
The latter song contains lyrics like “I ain’t no millionaire’s son” and “Some folks are born silver spoon in hand... It ain’t me.” It makes zero sense, and songwriter John Fogerty has protested Trump’s use of the song.
The family of Oscar Brown, the civil-rights activist who wrote “The Snake,” has objected to Trump’s use of his lyrics, too. The song, written in 1963, became a top-30 hit for Al Wilson in 1968. It tells the story of a woman who rescues a freezing snake and is rewarded for her trouble with a fatal, poisonous bit. Trump uses it to depict immigrants as “snakes,” but when viewed in a different light, it’s the perfect allegory for Trump himself. Just take a look at the lyrics:

Before we elected Donald Trump, we knew — or should have known — that he was a snake, or at least about as serpentine as you can get. We knew he was a con artist; a lousy businessman; a crude, uncouth, and offensive braggart; a suspected tax cheat; a misogynist who bragged about being able to sexually assault women; a racist (the birther controversy, housing discrimination).
He told us, “What do you have to lose?” But should we really be surprised we’ve been bitten?
“The Snake” is similar to a fable of “The Scorpion and the Frog, in which a scorpion hitches a ride across the river on a frog’s back. Just as the snake bites the woman, the scorpion bites the frog. But there’s a slight twist to this story: The scorpion stings the frog halfway across the river, and they both drown.
When asked why he had doomed them both, the scorpion answered, “It’s in my nature.”
The same could be said for Trump. Let’s just hope he doesn’t take us all down with him.

It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that we Americans often tend to ignore the facts.
We don’t, as a whole, make decisions based on facts.
We make decisions based on labels.
We’ve been conditioned to do so by our consumer culture, which triggers us to buy based on corporate names rather than the quality of the product behind those names.
Case in point: McDonald’s sells more burgers than anyone else, but they don’t have the best — or even the cheapest — burgers. Not by a long shot. Back in the day, McDonald’s started out, they sold a 15-cent burger, but so did a lot of other fast-food places you’ve never heard of because they’ve long since gone out of business.
McDonald’s secret wasn’t quality or even price. It was labeling and marketing. McDonald’s had a famous clown, who was more recognizable than other fast-food mascots. Its “golden arches” signs were more distinctive than other signs on the side of the road. Plus, they boasted that “over X million” of the burgers had been served.
They must be good if that many people were buying them.
Labeling something as “new and improved” makes older versions of the same product seem obsolete. Advertising a “sale” or “discount” makes us think we’re getting something for less than it’s worth — even if the price went up before it went down again. Or profit margins are high. Or other outlets are offering the same product at a lower price.
We’ve been conditioned by out consumer culture to believe lies and half-truths, relying on simple labels without reading the fine print. Who has the time (or patience) for that?
If we’re so prone to manipulation when it comes to parting with our money, why should we be any less vulnerable when it comes to our politics?
The answer is, we aren’t.
If anything, we’re more susceptible to a con, because politics doesn’t affect us as directly or personally as the amount of money we have in our pocket.

Political labels
As with corporate marketing, the trick is to imprint an image or label on the public’s mind. Once it’s there, it’s very difficult to dislodge. The facts be damned. I’ll give you a few examples:
Republicans have succeeded in casting themselves as the party of fiscal responsibility. But they add more to the budget deficits, as a percent of GDP, when the control the White House than Democrats do.
Republicans continue to be seen as a pro-military party, even now that they’re led by a successful draft-evader who berates Gold Star parents and former POWs, and who cozies up to traditional U.S. adversaries.
Much of the GOP’s reputation as “hawkish” stems from its historic opposition to Russian expansion and willingness to engage in an arms race to keep it in check. Under current Republican leadership, Russia is not only allowed, but encouraged, to interfere in U.S. elections, and is given a free pass when it comes to putting bounties on the head of American soldiers.
Most starkly (and absurdly), Donald Trump continues to be seen as better equipped to deal with the economy than Joe Biden. This is despite the fact that Trump is presiding over the worst economy in decades, while Biden was part of a team that oversaw a prolonged and steady period of growth.
The confidence in Trump has remained steady — and not just among his base — even though Trump has filed for bankruptcy six times and has overseen a host of failed business ventures.
Why?
Because Trump has succeeded in portraying himself as a “businessman,” and in reinforcing that image by “firing” people on a reality TV show. He must know what he’s doing, right?
The six bankruptcies and failed businesses are ignored. So is the distinction between a successful businessman and a bad one.

Our addiction to labels, and our willingness to accept them as authorities rather than thinking for ourselves, has brought us to the brink of exchanging our democracy for an authoritarian form of government.
(Notice that “authorities” and “authoritarian” stem from the same root word.)
Trump may be an incompetent businessman, but he’s good at one thing: Getting people to buy a label without providing any substance. McDonald’s may not sell the best burgers, but at least you get a piece of meat between a couple of buns. Trump sells his name. Period. Then he refuses to take responsibility when the product he’s peddling fails to live up to his promises.
He plays on the consumer’s (and his voters’) desire to get something for nothing by doing the opposite: offering nothing for something.
And they buy it.

They were neither miracles nor cures, just as Trump’s assertions that COVID-19 will just “go away” is neither. It’s a cop out by a man whose only talent is to con people into believing him.
The government passed regulations to protect the public from snake-oil salesmen, shutting down the bogus tonics and elixirs that separated desperate people from their money. Trump — naturally — opposes that kind of regulation. He sees desperation as an opportunity to take advantage of people, and regulation as an obstacle.
Taking advantage of people is what he does. Until we commit to looking past the labels and demand to know what’s inside that bottle of so-called elixir, he’ll just keep right on doing it.

The jist of it was Washington State has a law that doesn't allow Oregon dairy products to be transported across Washington state lines (or something). Well the driver was telling a story about someone who got caught transporting Oregon dairy products across Washington state lines and got wrote-up big time to which the local fellow added - good thing he wasn't smoking a cigarette at the time. Fight the power bro!
The bottom line is, that Trump, as has been pointed out by the majority of his voters, has many serious flaws!
