RECOMMENDED READING: DARK AGENDA by David Horowitz

This will be short and sweet.  I have a new book sitting beside me, DARK AGENDA:  The War to Destroy Christian America.  The author is David Horowitz who was once a major figure on the radical left.  The Bible contains a description of the Godly King Josiah of whom it was said he walked neither to the left hand nor to the right, but strictly in the paths of the Lord.  For sure, there are traps on both sides.  I don't agree with Horowitz on everything.  He definitely does not see the same issues on Donald Trump as I have come to see, especially post January 6.

HOWEVER, with that being said, Horowitz's book on the war on monotheism, including Christians and Jews should be required reading.  When I started my research back in early 1981, one of the trends I noticed was very, very similar to what Horowitz reports.  I opened a file that I have continuously maintained thereafter -- I still have my original paper file, "War on Fundamentalism."

DARK AGENDA by David Horowitz, copyright 2018, is an excellent and disturbing summary of much that is happening.  The difference between Horowitz and myself is that I believe Trump's moves are playing right into the hands of our enemies.  In fact, many of our spiritual "New Age" entities are shaping the organizations/networks such as "Qanon" and leading Christians to do things that make us look like fair game by our enemies to rationalize our coming prophesied persecutions.

Read the book.  Take the wheat, leave any chaff, and thank God that former leftists such as Lee Penn (whose memorial mass was held in Portland, Oregon yesterday), David Horowitz, and others have repented of their former positionss and came to be active workers for God and righteousness,

Stay tuned!

Craig, I hope you repost your 10:28 P.M. from the last thread here.

I love this woman, Giorgia Meloni. She is a smarter, gutsier, 2.0 version of Marjorie Taylor Green.

Among the disclosures already made public are several instances in which the Bureau has deviated from standard procedure to target Americans with counterintelligence investigations. Also disclosed was the fact that the FBI had its agents change the characterizations of J6 cases to make it appear as though there are thousands of cases of domestic white extremist violence spread across the country, when in actuality, nearly all those investigations originated from the incident at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The disclosures also revealed that the FBI directed agents to use a tailored “threat tag” to attach to cases involving investigations of concerned parents at school board meetings. This information came as Merrick Garland testified in the Senate to the contrary and after the National School Board Association faced harsh criticism for a letter it sent to the Biden Administration requesting federal help to target concerned parents. It was later uncovered that the White House communicated with the NSBA as they drafted the letter.

  4. Re Georgia Meloni: I am most disturbed at her varying and conflicting reported statements about Italy's WWII Fascist combined with her past history with the Italian Neo-Fascist movements.

I have been distressed at Marjorie Taylor Greene's relationship with White Nationalist groups and Qanon. Telling me that Georgia Meloni is an enhanced version of her does not help me sleep better at night!

  5. About David Horowitz from THE NEW REPUBLIC:

David Horowitz’s plunge into radicalism happened early. He was born in New York City to parents who were Stalinists and members of the American Communist Party, and, at least to begin with, he followed in their footsteps. In high school, he belonged to a Communist youth group (where he and Ron met). But his political education only began in earnest at Berkeley in 1959, when he arrived from the East Coast as a 20-year-old first-year graduate student in the department of English. Having jettisoned his parents’ creed, he was in search of a new path, free of the ideological rigidity of the old left. It was the dawn of an era of protest, and the Berkeley campus became his radical crucible.

Talk about prejudicial hyperbole! This book is an irresponsible and dangerous misrepresentation of historical and current events and conditions. It fans the flames of the radical right whose mission is no longer saving souls, but rather gaining power!

DARK AGENDA is filled with inflammatory language, offering ‘alternative truth’ at best, and blatant lies at worse. The author, “himself a Jew” (as though this means he is unbiased) erroneously equates liberals and progressives with atheists and communists while he claims to be the champion for a “Christian America.”

This country was built on moral values which are NOT exclusive to Christianity!! No one is trying to ‘kill off’ these commonly held ‘moral values.’ Progressives, whether Christian or not, stand up for the values exemplified by the life of Christ! AND the idea that ‘without a Christian run government our freedoms would parish’ is absurd hyperbole! This country has maintained a separation of church and state for over 200 years without perishing. THAT is what we should be and are fighting to retain!

Religious freedom demands ALL religions have a legitimate right to exist! Christianity is ONE of those protected religions! When politicians and misguided Christians call for an America that is “Christian ONLY” THIS is what undermines what the Founding Fathers stood for! THIS is what will destroy our Nation....The following is what we SHOULD be fighting against!

Michael Flynn stood on a stage at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio and spoke his truth: “If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion. One nation under God, and one religion under God.”

At an Ohio GOP Senate debate, Josh Mandel said, “there’s no such thing as separation of church and state.”… “We should be instilling faith in the classroom, in the workplace, and everywhere in society.”

Last year, Bill Barr informed the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast that, to the extent such a separation does exist, it’s thanks to “militant secularists” who don’t understand that America would be better off if we just let Christians run the show.

Thankfully not all Christians agree with Horowitz and Flynn and Mandel and Barr!

Not coincidentally, the gospel of Matthew goes on to explain by exactly what criteria the nations should be judged: “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed…For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.’” But being a Good Samaritan is not what power is about. That’s not the type of work that puts you on the stage at Cornerstone, backed by a shofar and a wave of righteous indignation. That’s the loud part of the Gospel that Flynn and his ilk are keeping quiet. (From an article By ALEX MORRIS)

This is what I resist! And, as for me and my house, we will stand firm to the Constitution and the values upon which it grew. The values that can be found in every world religion. NONE of which should be sanctioned (as good or evil) by the state!

  8. Ahem. separationof church and state is NOT about religion per se but about "an establishment of religion." the corner store is an establishment of bsuiness. An establishment of religion would a federally mandated church you had to support financially and probably subscribe to. The values you think all religions share are highly compromised and loopholed by many of them.

The religious presuppositions of this country ranged from pseudo Christian to actual Christian with a nod to Judaism. Heathen were recognized as such and objects of missionary activity.

A certain amount of religious organizations and values run eduation facilities and government support went on until Roman Catholicism, viewed s pagan wrongly, were getting a cut so thensuddenly the more extreme kind of separation came in.

We did not have separation of RELIGIPNand state or we wouldn'thave had oaths to be taken on the Bible, Congress opening with prayer, etc. Affirmation instead of oath on the Bible ws allowed in court.

The separation clause was about the fed, a few states had state mandated churches but this was eliminated early on in the early 1800s.

The pooint was to prevent the religious wears of Europe, NOT to declare all religions equally true (and therefore none really true at all).

    Jesus Christ is Lord.

By the way theprohibition on graven images was bout carved things, not flat icons. And the honor shown to the depictation or copy of something or someone goes to the original, says Paul in warning against being cavalier about cultural idolatries because the idol is nothing. On that basis, honor given a picture of Jesus goes to Jesus.

Except there is no study suggesting such at all other than over-observation of normal occurrences.

If there is any small increase, it's certainly much more likely to be related to the actual Covid virus than any vaccination well over a year ago.

Remember this study published 2021 studying Big Ten Athletes in 2020 prior to the covid vaccine even being administered finding that:

Only about 2% of college athletes who recovered from COVID-19 were later diagnosed with myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart, according to a new study published Thursday in JAMA Cardiology.

Why it matters: The study, with some of the most comprehensive data yet on the cardiac condition connected to COVID-19, reveals its prevalence is less than previously recorded.

Exercising with myocarditis can increase the risk of cardiac arrest and sudden death among athletes and young people.
The big picture: The complication and its unknown long-term effects contributed to Big Ten and other intercollegiate conferences' postponed seasons last fall.

The incidence of sudden cardiac death in college athletes has been estimated at one per 50,000 per year.

Details: Close to 40 of the 1,597 athletes who tested positive for the virus and had a cardiac evaluation were found to have clinical myocarditis or subclinical myocarditis, the study shows.

Nine athletes were symptomatic, with most experiencing chest pain and some with heart palpitations.

The study found MRIs were much more effective at detecting inflammation of the heart than symptom-based testing.

Be smart: People who had COVID-19 and no initial symptoms of chest pain or palpitations can partake in physical activity as long as they "take it more slowly," Curt Daniels, a cardiologist and professor at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center who led a team of 30 researchers on the study, tells Axios.

"We do think exercise is safe after COVID," he said. "You should slowly increase your activity in exercise and make sure you don’t have symptoms as you go back."

Small number of Big Ten athletes had myocarditis after COVID-19

    https://www.axios.com/2021/05/28/small-number-big-ten-athletes-myocarditis-heart

    x

p.s. - 2% of athletes is a HUGE number when considering there are about 8 million high school athletes and 500,000 NCAA athletes competing in any given year. Add in intermural and recreation sports and even people just working out at the gym there are likely a 100 million "athletes" in the US alone. If covid infections result in even a temporary 2% mycodartis adverse reaction to the virus, that's 2 million "athletes" a year. There is even literature suggesting that myocarditis is a common event during influenza infections, occurring with a prevalence rate of up to 10%. It's a well-known phenomenom being exploited to invoke fear and assuage cognitive dissonance among the guilty unvaccinated survivors.

  34. For years the media have parroted one study—ONE STUDY—purporting that the US has the largest amount of mass shootings BY FAR. But this is all based on ONE STUDY, which is FAR from accurate.

So, in reality, which countries are among those having higher mass shootings than the US?

    Norway
    Finland
    Switzerland
    Russia

In terms of overall world rankings, where does the US fit in?

    62

Media Hype Questionable Gun Control Study

    John Stossel

Dozens of news outlets reported that America has the most mass shooters in the world. Many say that shows America needs more gun control.

CNN claimed that "the U.S. has the most mass shootings". The WSJ reported that "U.S. leads the world in mass shootings." Nearly every major media outlet and former President Obama said the same.

But the claim is based on just one study, and the author of that study, Adam Lankford, would not release his data to other gun reseachers in the field.

Economist John Lott argues that Lankford's study has many flaws.

Lott is the author of the books “More Guns, Less Crime” and “Bias against Guns.” His son, Maxim Lott, works for Stossel TV.

Stossel says because of that, he repeatedly asked Lankford to show him the study data that he would not reveal to Lott. But Lankford would not disclose it to Stossel either.

    [cont]

    ReplyDelete
  35. [cont]

Lankford claimed to find "complete data" for all mass shootings in 171 countries from 1966 to 2012. But Lott notes that Lankford doesn’t reveal basic details about how he found shootings in so many countries -- most of which don’t speak English. And most of those years, those countries didn’t have the internet.

Lott argues that finding complete data for mass shooters in just one developing country, such as India, would be an incredible feat, as many shootings would be reported only in local outlets in the local language.

U.S. mass shootings, on the other hand, are well-documented and hard to miss.

Lott says that if Lankford missed foreign cases but found all the U.S. ones, his paper’s entire conclusion that the US has the most mass shooters could fall apart.

Lankford has declined to answer questions about how he searched for foreign-language cases.

Did Lankford miss foreign cases? Because Lankford would not release his data, Lott and the think tank he runs -- the Crime Prevention Research Center -- compiled their own count of mass shooters. (His paper is at http://ssrn.com/abstract=3238736 )

Lott counted more than 3,000 cases around the world -- several times more than the 202 cases Lankford found. Lott found 15 times more, despite the fact that he only looked for shootings in the last 15 years, whereas Lankford looked at 46 years.

Lott attempted to use the same definition of "mass shooter" that Lankford used, although that’s difficult. In Lankford's paper, Lankford says he excludes "sponsored terrorism" but does not define what he means by that.

To be safe, Lott removed all terrorism cases from his data. When he did that that, he still found 709 shooters around the world -- more than 3 times what Lankford found.

Gun control advocates have used the Lankford study to argue that mass shootings are caused by the comparatively high gun ownership rate in the U.S.

But when Lankford's data are fixed, Lott says, there is no longer any correlation between gun ownership rate and mass shootings.

Lott concludes: "There is a lesson here. Lankford’s critical but simple error could have been picked up if journalists had only demanded his data and methods before publicizing his study.”

    That’s something journalists rarely do.

Lott adds: "Journalists should learn to be skeptical... and in the meantime, we should all be skeptical of news coverage of studies like this -- that simply confirm what journalists and people want to hear."

7 Problems with the He Gets Us Campaign

I'll post her enumerations, but please read the post for her extensive critique.

    1. The fact that Jesus “gets us,” stripped from the context of His identity, is meaningless.

    2. Jesus is presented as an example, not a Savior.

    3. The campaign reinforces the problematic idea that Jesus’s followers have Jesus all wrong.

    4. The campaign reinforces what culture wants to believe about Jesus while leaving out what culture doesn’t want to believe.

    5. The campaign characterizes the so-called culture war in terms of secular social justice rather than underlying worldview differences.

    6. The campaign’s stated goal is about inspiration, not a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

    7. The next steps offered by He Gets Us could lead someone far away from truth rather than toward it.

I am not against warning people about frauds and counterfeits.
    Not at all.
I am saying that we need to go beyond that. It isn't enough to merely warn them and leave it at that.

People who are real believers need to be sharing the true Jesus with people who are lost, don't know they are lost, encouraging them to go to the Bible for themselves and see the real Jesus from it's pages and shown by people who care about their souls. That takes the Spirit's holy boldness and compassion for people to bring that message.
Somebody cared enough about you to let you know about Him didn't they? Someone cared for me that way and it was that one on one encounter that beat out the massive false advertising the world has always had about Jesus.

That's a good article about the He Gets Us campaign. I agree with all 7 points made by Ms. Crain. I did some quick research yesterday and learned a little more. The $100 million campaign is paid by anonymous donors through a Christian foundation, The Signatry. According to Bill High, CEO, they are committed to spending $1 billion over the next three years. They are targeting millennials and Gen Z with the "real authentic Jesus.'' He stated that the goal is to "inspire and facilitate revolutionary Biblical generosity." He did not describe what that would look like. Free Courses and Bible reading plans are offered through YouVersion Bible app. The Signatry has had at least 5 name changes. Christianity Today, Luis Palau Evangelical Association and David Green of Hobby Lobby are named donors, all others are anonymous. The foundation operates according to the Lusanne Covenant 1974. I found many interesting connections. I realize everyone doesn't get as excited about these things as I do. I plan to follow this as I'm interested in where this is going. Seems to be much more here than meets the eye.

  52. US [ALLEGEDLY] shoots down 4 UFOs, military officials won't rule out aliens

    WCNC

A U.S. fighter jet shot down an “unidentified object” over Lake Huron on Sunday on orders from President Joe Biden. It was the fourth such downing in eight days and the latest military strike in an extraordinary chain of events over U.S. airspace that Pentagon officials believe has no peacetime precedent.

Part of the reason for the repeated shootdowns is a “heightened alert” following a spy balloon from China that emerged over U.S. airspace in late January, Gen. Glen VanHerck, head of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command, said in a briefing with reporters.

Since then, fighter jets last week also shot down objects over Canada and Alaska. Pentagon officials said they posed no security threats, but so little was known about them that Pentagon officials were ruling nothing out — not even UFOs.

“We have been more closely scrutinizing our airspace at these altitudes, including enhancing our radar, which may at least partly explain the increase,” said Melissa Dalton, assistant defense secretary for homeland defense.

In criticizing "one study" Craig is making the same mistake by relying on statistics from "one study" done by a pro-gun group...

In a widely publicized study originally released in 2015, the pro-gun nonprofit Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) compared the annual number of mass shooting deaths per million people in the U.S. to that of Canada and several European countries from 2009 to 2015. The result? Norway led the world with 1.88 deaths per million, followed by Serbia, France, and Macedonia. Where did the U.S. rank? 11th place *

*in 2018 they redid their magic numbers and the US came in 64th place

The article I linked below goes on to explain many of the statistcal problems with the CPRC analysis including this about Norway:

A more important oversight was the report's use of average deaths per capita instead of a more stable metric. Because of the smaller populations of most European countries, individual events in those countries had statistically oversized influence and warped the results. For example, Norway’s world-leading annual rate was due to a single devastating 2011 event, in which far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik gunned down 69 people at a summer camp on the island of Utøya. Norway had zero mass shootings in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

In other words, Norway supposedly has more of a "mass shooting" problem than the US because ONE GUY was super successful in 2011 and Norway has a smaller population making the "RATE" of mass shooting deaths spectacular in comparison.

It's just typical fun with math nonsense. Twist data to convolute the issue away from addressing the real problems of lax gun control laws.

It's an interesting debate and sure white nationalist conservatives would love to lock up any black man carrying a gun for years upon years but that's not an economically affordable or societally beneficial solution either.

Eliminating, limiting and controlling guns, is far easier and cheaper than locking up people.

The article indicates Anthony McRae wouldn't have been in jail anyway based upon the sentencing guidelines and plea deals for first time offenders are common (even for black people).

What's interesting too is the charges stem from a police stop where the officer asked if he was armed and he indicated he was, turned over the weapon and indicated he was in the process of getting a concealed weapons permit. In many states now...the gun lobby and conservatives have done away with such "concealed weapons" permit requirements anyway. The whole conservative idea that this guy should have been in jail for a felony wouldn't have applied under the new more permissive open carry laws being passed in many states. In Texas, he would have been seen as just another "good guy with a gun".

This goes to my notion that "progressive" and "conservatives" work best when working together towards a solution that best serves the community, in whole.

A "progressive" prosecutor simply made a deal and reduced charges as other more conservative prosecutors have done for years when their white constituents have been arrested.

At the same time, more progressive gun control laws might have kept a gun out of this mentally ill man's hands on Feb 13th, 2022 due to his mental health situation and/or his past "misdemeanor" conviction. Perhaps more progressive gun control laws would have limited the number of bullets or reloading speed in what I believe was a high speed large capacity clip hand gun he used to gun down students at Michigan State University.

Maybe more progressive gun control laws and/or mental health laws would have gotten him the help he needed before he thought this was a good end to his life??

Doing nothing and/or blaming progressives is not a solution.

Trump's plan for a 2nd term reportedly includes firing squads, hangings, and group executions

    https://theweek.com/donald-trump/1020984/trumps-plan-for-a-2nd-term-reportedly-includes-firing-squads-hangings-and

As Donald Trump's second re-election bid begins to pick up steam in the new year, details about the former president's plans for his return to the White House have begun to emerge — including a new report from Rolling Stone, which alleges Trump has begun polling his advisers on whether he should bring back firing squads, hangings, and even the guillotine should he win in 2024.

According to two sources, the former president has even begun exploring the possibility of group executions, with a third person claiming Trump has expressed interest in a government ad campaign to highlight the administration's lethality and, per Rolling Stone's source, "help put the fear of God into violent criminals....

Trump's fascination with the death penalty has long been on public display, stretching back to his call to execute the "Central Park Five," five young Black and Latino men accused of rape and assault in the late 1980s (all were later exonerated). As Rolling Stone had previously reported, Trump had ended his first term by executing more than four times as many convicted persons in his final six months in office as the federal government had killed in total over the prior half-century. He also signed an executive order in those last weeks in office that expanded the federal government's ability to conduct hangings and firing squads as methods of execution. And during his campaign launch in November, Trump made a special point to highlight a call to execute "everyone who sells drugs [or] gets caught selling drugs" if given a second term.

This latest report has earned harsh rebukes from some, including journalist Oliver Willis, who called it the "kind of fascist s--t Republican primary voters love." Citing a 2016 campaign event in which Trump enthusiastically lauded the disproven myth that U.S. General John Pershing summarily executed dozens of Muslim prisoners in the Philippines with ammunition "dipped [...] in pig's blood," Semafor Washington Bureau Chief Benjy Sarlin wryly noted that now Trump was "moderating his stance ahead of 2024, before he just favored summary executions while defiling the bodies."

Gr8 article about holding conservatives responsible. Take some accountability already.

“They knew: why didn’t the unvaccinated do more to warn us?”

    https://iqfy.com/unvaccinated-silence/?fbclid=IwAR18mu5Epg6BET0ZIGlRsNgYiNevp9_DBE5A2ZQkWXE_sBMahQ-43RxdvK0

Excerpt: The unvaccinated knew what we didn't. Some of them said too little. Most said nothing at all. A lot of blood is now on their hands.

As the world struggles to come to terms with the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, one question that continues to surface is why the unvaccinated didn’t do more to warn us about the potential dangers of being injected.

While well intending citizens lined up, did the right thing, and received their COVID19 vaccinations — now seeming to do more harm than good — their unvaccinated friends stood by and let them do it. Some of them said too little. Some said nothing at all.

Even though they knew what we didn’t.

Our blood is now on their hands.

Those are strong words. But the unvaccinated had access to important information about the potential side effects of vaccines. They knew about the risks of severe allergic reactions, blood clots, and other serious health complications. They knew that vaccines did not immunize us. They knew it wasn’t effective, and that they can cause more harm than good.

They knew all of that, but instead of warning us, the unvaccinated chose to remain silent. They chose to look the other way and not speak out about the potential dangers of vaccines. They let millions of good folks who did the right thing (at the time) fall to death and disease, and many antivaxxers even gloated online about how their coin flip had been the right bet. The more diabolical even urged folks they disagree with to “get boosted.”

It has become all too clear. The silence of the unvaccinated was a dangerous, sociopathic, and irresponsible decision that has had serious consequences for those of us who received the vaccinations.

And silence is, after all, consent.

Related: How do we prevent discrimination against the vaccinated?

It is time for the unvaccinated to take responsibility for their actions and to work with the rest of us to find a solution to this crisis. We cannot afford to let their selfishness and lack of action continue to harm our communities. It is time for the unvaccinated to step up and do the right thing.

The unvaccinated should by any moral measuring stick have done more to warn about the potential risks — to help us make informed decisions about our health. And they must now ask us for our forgiveness.

And, hand to heart, we may just give it to them.

Because we are good people. We took those injections because it was the right thing to do — until it wasn’t.

    Craig,

Here's a nice factcheck on the Cochrane review. I wouldn't call it a debunking because the study itself responsibly indicates it's results and conclusions aren't that reliable and that it doesn't prove masks don't work, just that the evidence isn't there yet to claim the work to prevent infection.

Multiple studies show that face masks reduce the spread of COVID-19; a Cochrane review doesn’t demonstrate otherwise

    https://healthfeedback.org/claimreview/multiple-studies-show-face-masks-reduce-spread-of-covid-19-cochrane-review-doesnt-demonstrate-otherwise/

    Excerpts:

"... One of these limitations was that most trials included in the review “addressed only half of the question” on mask effectiveness: “Face masks and respirators work in two ways: they protect the wearer from becoming infected and they prevent an infected wearer from spreading their germs to other people. Most RCTs in this Cochrane Review looked only at the former scenario, not the latter.”

N95/P2 respirators are designed to prevent airborne infections, like COVID-19 and flu, by filtering infectious particles and preventing the wearer from breathing them in. By contrast, surgical face masks mainly work by physically blocking the release of infectious particles from infected individuals into the air. However, most trials only tested mask effectiveness at preventing infection in the wearer, ignoring the potential benefit of face masks in source control...."

"...Further complicating the question is the fact that most of the participants in the individual RCTs didn’t wear face masks consistently during the trial. Instead, most wore masks occasionally or in specific settings, like working places, university residences, or when in contact with people with respiratory infections. Although study participants only wore masks part of the time, most studies didn’t measure mask-wearing compliance. The few studies that did record this reported a high variability ranging from 40 to 80%, which the authors defined as “relatively low numbers”. This lack of compliance is relevant because evidence indicates that the community benefit of face masks increases with the number of people who wear them..."

"...Due to all these limitations, the authors’ confidence in the results was “low to moderate for the subjective outcomes related to respiratory illness” and “moderate for the more precisely defined laboratory-confirmed respiratory virus infection”. This means that, rather than demonstrating that masks are ineffective at reducing respiratory infections as claimed, the evidence was insufficient to conclude whether they have an effect. The authors highlighted the need for more, larger, and better-designed RCTs..."

    x

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anonymous2:00 PM

    (continued)

    Conclusion:

Claims that face masks don’t work based on the results of the Cochrane review are unsupported and misrepresent the conclusions of the review, which couldn’t draw “any firm conclusions” on the effectiveness of mask-wearing at limiting the spread of respiratory infections due to methodological limitations. Many of those claims also mislead the readers by presenting the review as high-quality definite evidence without adequately acknowledging its limitations. While meta-analyses are indeed at the top of the quality evidence pyramid, their reliability depends on the quality of the individual studies they include, which is highly variable in the case of face masks.

A growing body of evidence from RCTs and observational studies suggests that consistent mask-wearing can effectively reduce the spread of respiratory viruses like SARS-CoV-2 in both healthcare and community settings. The extent to which community mask-wearing contributes to limiting the spread of different respiratory viruses and in different circumstances is still unclear. Hopefully, future well-designed studies will answer these questions. For the time being, face masks are another layer of protection in addition to vaccination, frequent handwashing, and physical distancing when the circulation of respiratory viruses is high.

    Craig,

But now that we've pinned down a source you seem to respect and trust as "one of the best in evidence-based research" (I know those weren't your words but you quoted them)..

Here's some other things they've published...

Ivermectin for preventing and treating COVID‐19

    https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD015017.pub3/full?highlightAbstract=ivermectin

We found no evidence to support the use of ivermectin for treating COVID‐19 or preventing SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. The evidence base improved slightly in this update, but is still limited.

Evaluation of ivermectin is continuing in 31 ongoing trials, and we will update this review again when their results become available.

Interventions to increase COVID‐19 vaccine uptake: a scoping review

    https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD015270/full?highlightAbstract=covid

Vaccines are effective in preventing death or severe illness from COVID‐19, a disease for which few treatments are available. Widespread vaccination against COVID‐19 may help protect those not yet able to get vaccinated. However, many people do not want to get vaccinated against COVID‐19. This can put them at increased risk of severe disease and death.

Efficacy and safety of COVID‐19 vaccines

    Dec 2022:
    https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD015270/full?highlightAbstract=covid

...Compared to placebo, most vaccines reduce, or likely reduce, the proportion of participants with confirmed symptomatic COVID‐19, and for some, there is high‐certainty evidence that they reduce severe or critical disease. There is probably little or no difference between most vaccines and placebo for serious adverse events. Over 300 registered RCTs are evaluating the efficacy of COVID‐19 vaccines, and this review is updated regularly on the COVID‐NMA platform

Fascists like Meatball Desantis and other secret opus dei affiliates ARE the real deep state - one world government/religion purveyors and the real destroyers of libertarian, local governance and American values. His policies and consilidation of power have all the earmarks of a Davos speculation conspiracy theory only they are REAL and being practiced versus think-tank discussions.

DeSantis is king of the vengeful power grab, courtesy of Florida’s cowed Republican lawmakers | Opinion

Gov. DeSantis is playing a game of smoke and mirrors with Floridians. His announced goal is to cure Florida of the reported ailments of the border crisis, election fraud, critical race theory, “trendy ideologies” in education like gender ideology and queer theory, indoctrinators hiding on every corner and every classroom, diversity initiatives at public universities.

    The list goes on.

Part of the public eats up what he’s saying and cheers him on. The other, including the Herald Editorial Board, is outraged with the almost daily barrage of manufactured crises (save for the one at the border). As the Editorial Board recently argued, DeSantis is a master of distraction. What gets lost in all that smoke he creates are the true impacts of DeSantis’ policies.

Whether you’re urging him on or screaming at the top of our lungs, you’re likely overlooking how much power DeSantis has concentrated in his own hands, and the hands of future governors. He’s getting plenty of help from lawmakers, who just gave him the ability to transport migrants from anywhere in the nation, along with $10 million from taxpayers, no questions asked. They also made it easier for the state to pursue election fraud cases without having to go through locally elected prosecutors.

This consolidation of power in Tallahassee predates DeSantis. For years, lawmakers have passed so-called “preemption bills” that prevent cities and counties from enacting their own regulations, usually ones that powerful special interests don’t like. Under DeSantis, that phenomenon is happening with unprecedented speed, benefiting mostly the state’s chief executive.

The latest example of that comes with suspicious timing.

After public outcry, the Florida High School Athletic Association nixed a proposal to force female athletes to disclose to schools information about their menstruation. Just a week later, the Republican-controlled Legislature advanced a bill that would put DeSantis in charge of appointing all the members of the association’s governing board. DeSantis tried to take over the FHSAA, a private entity, last year, as originally reported by journalist Jason Garcia, but lawmakers didn’t go for it.

It’s also interesting that DeSantis and Republicans — self-appointed defenders of parental rights — were unusually quiet about the proposed menstruation requirement. After all, it was parents in Palm Beach County who first raised privacy concerns over having to turn over that information to schools when athletic forms migrated online.

The real danger here isn’t just in what may happen at the FHSAA if, and when, DeSantis takes over. The true danger lies in how lawmakers have enabled the executive power to be in control and monitor the most granular aspects of the workings of Florida’s institutions with little accountability.

Since the legislative branch has abdicated its responsibilities, the only check and balance left are the courts, and we know how that expensive that is.

It takes great courage to call out this type of power grab when it’s coming from your side of the aisle. However, is no Republican is up to that task?

To the Floridians who are egging the governor on, think of what could happen if the tide turns, and you don’t like the next person in the governor’s mansion. If DeSantis continues to amass power, it will be too late to reverse course. That is what gets obfuscated by DeSantis’ smoke and mirrors.

    Buyer beware.

Armed Citizen Stops Mall Shooting Once Again In El Paso, Texas

    Colion Noir

The gun control lobby loves to argue that if we let more people carry guns, there will be more shootings, and they’re right; there will be more self-defense shootings.

Here we have another mall shooting stopped by a "good guy with a gun" where according to the El Paso police department, a private citizen with a firearm drew their weapon and injured the shooting suspect at the Cielo Vista Mall on Wednesday evening.

The gun control lobby also likes to argue that mass shootings are rarely stopped by concealed carriers, which is the most dishonest argument to make, considering the vast majority of mass shootings happen in places where law-abiding citizens are NOT allowed to carry a gun.

What this concealed carrier did is one more example of establishing a new reality for criminals.

As more people start exercising their right to carry, the more criminals will have to deal with the fact that they may be shot before they can finish their crime.

I want to live in a society where criminals are just as afraid or more of the citizens they may try to victimize.

Craig said: Study in Denmark shows 9.3% have mRNA in their blood after 28 days post-vaxx.

That is clearly NOT what the study concluded.

Quote from the study: Thus, of the 108 patient samples, 10 samples (9.3%) had partial or up to full sequences of the vaccine mRNA sequence (Fig. 1), identified from one to 28 days postvaccination

Only 1 patient sample at the 28th day post Pjizer vaccination showed a partial sequence of vaccine mRNA (representing less than 1% of the 108 patient samples).

2 of the 10 patient samples were from the same patient.

This is a very small study and it DOES raise some important questions and perhaps, suggest further research, but even the authors indicated that the mRNA is likely still wrapped in the LPN and that These findings are interesting and should lead to further research into the design of LNPs and the half-life of LNPs and mRNA vaccines, but it should be emphasized that our data does not in any way change the conclusion that both mRNA vaccines are safe and effective.

As always...read the study. Nurse John Campbell has been really exposed as a grifter and non-expert this past year as he's grasping at straws to retain his ever-shrinking audience of anti-vaxxer's. I'm sure Dr. Susan Oliver at Back to the Science will swing around the next couple days and debunk/explain in proper context this whole Campbell video too (as she did with his recent irresponsible brain injury misinformation video: https://youtu.be/cB14tw5ZqbY)

    Craig,

I'd rather live in a society where 16 year olds, like the boy in El Paso, don't have access to guns.

Further, if Mr. Noir's idea that gun proliferation would lower murder rates, then why has there been such a huge two-decade plus long red state murder problem?

The Two-Decade Red State Murder Problem

    https://www.thirdway.org/report/the-two-decade-red-state-murder-problem

...We found that the murder rate in Trump-voting states has exceeded the murder rate in Biden-voting states every year this century. Cumulatively, overall murder rates since 2000 were on average 23% higher in Trump-voting states. For the past 21 years, the top 10 murder rate states have been dominated by reliably red states, namely Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Missouri. Even when we removed the county with the largest city in Trump-voting states (and kept them in for Biden-voting states), murder rates were still significantly higher in these red states.

And while media reports give the impression that murder rates are skyrocketing in blue areas, murder rates have actually increased at far higher rates in Trump-voting states over the past two decades, widening the Red State murder gap from a low of 9% in 2003 and 2004 to a high of 44% in 2019, before falling to 43% in 2020. Since 2000, murder rates have increased 39.4% in red states and just 13.4% in blue states.

There is a media and political narrative that crime is a Democratic problem, occurring mostly in big blue cities and fueled by lax policies. While murder is by no means the only crime in America, it is the most serious. And as far as murder is concerned, it is a bigger problem in red states than blue states and only becoming more so. As we noted in our last report, Republicans do a much better job blaming others for crime than actually stopping it.

OK, so I misstated it. It should be, as Dr. Campbell states in his description:

    Of the 108 patient samples,

10 samples (9.3%) had partial or up to full sequences of the vaccine mRNA sequence

This is still FAR beyond what it is supposed to be (Half-life of mRNA translation,

estimated from hours to a day
    ), so is still concerning.

p.s. The inflamed rhetoric is getting tiresome ("anti-vaxxers", etc.)

Yes, it's a small study, but WHY HASN'T THE USA DONE A MORE COMPREHENSIVE STUDY? One would think that with the apparent non-prevalence of aspiration in the US, even MORE mRNA would remain in the blood.

    Craig @ 8:54pm

I don't think "aspiration" matters much. If anything it might expose the LPN and degrade them faster directly in the blood leading to a less desirable immuno-stimulating effect perhaps.

There's just nothing "bad" yet being detected by this study. Maybe it's demonstrating one of the unexpected ways the vaccine was so successful. A slightly longer "half-life" than expected might only be a bad thing among anti-vaxxer's with tunnel-vision group-thing believing "vaccine-bad" therefore "longer-vaccine badder".

This comment, direct from the study, suggests a mechanism and possible benefit:

We expect that vaccine mRNA detected in plasma is contained within LNPs and that the LNPs in plasma have been slowly released from the injection site either directly to the blood or through the lymph system. Without the LNPs protecting the mRNA, the mRNA would rapidly degrade. This allows prolonged spike protein production giving an advantage for a continuous immune response in some persons. Current studies on half-life of mRNA vaccines could have underestimated the half-life of the LNPs, primarily using results from half-life of studies of mRNA in the cytosol of human cells.

Take note also -- it appears that 98 of the 108 samples (not patients) contained no traces of the mRNA vaccine (90.74%).

Please advise when you come across a study replicating these results on a larger sample size. It doesn't really tell us much right now other than it MAY be detectable and a process whereby such answers might be found.

The gun control "agenda and its talking points" IS a solution. Its "agenda" is to ban assault rifles and oversized dangerous bullets, clips and magazines to limit the potential damage, to some extent, and increase the odds for LEO's (or even good guys with small guns) to combat random mass shooters. It's politically impossible, barring an Amendment to our Constitution to eliminate all guns. Not in America. But states and local cities should be able to further regulate guns, especially handguns and concealed weapons to some extent at the political whim of the local constituency.

Such "solution" will take decades to evidence results. But even the El Paso example discussed above -- a small handgun resulted in 4 shot, one fatality and a good guy taking down an assailant versus the assault rifle that killed 23 in nearly the same location.

The GOP "agenda and it's talking points" are the empty, solution-less agenda of fear. "Hopes and Prayers" are powerful but they aren't a solution.

Do you even object to banning assault-style rifles, dangerous (extra-lethal) bullets and high-capacity magazines? Why?

  119. Armed Chicago Woman Shoots Man Attempting To Rob Her, Now His Family Is Suing For 10 Million

    Colion Noir

The video starts as just another day in southside Chicago. Three people start confronting and trying to attack one guy.

I'm assuming they were making a lot of noise about it because she comes out and confronts them as a mediator of sorts.

Three of the guys walk off a few seconds later while she speaks with the fourth person.

Then out of nowhere, once she turns her back and starts to walk off, this goofball ATTACKS her!

All the reports I read said he was trying to take her gun, and it did seem like that's what he was trying to do until the armed woman WHO told him exactly what she was about to do.

To which he responded, trying to call her bluff, she would have to do it.

Then, as the saying goes, he messed around and found out.

Now let's talk about all the lessons to be learned here in which I talk about in the video:

One: The gun is the equalizer.
Two: Keep a round in the chamber.
Three: Gun control doesn't work on criminals.
Four: The Reality of open carry
Five: Get some type of concealed carry insurance

I say that because even though this woman was not charged with anything, the man's family sued her in civil court for 10 million dollars.

Unfortunately, we live in a society where you can use a gun to save your life, but the family of the person you saved yourself from can turn around and try to sue you into bankruptcy.

So you may beat the criminal case, but you'll still have to deal with the civil.

That's why it's essential to have some type of concealed carry insurance like you get when you become a member of USCCA because you'll not only have access to attorneys to help you with your criminal and civil case, but they'll also cover you for any collateral property damage that may occur during your self-defense shooting...

Who else is to blame for these mass shootings? Don’t let the Supreme Court off the hook | Opinion

    https://www.aol.com/else-blame-mass-shootings-don-141039710.html

Excerpt: ...In six cases since 1995, the Supreme Court has turned the Second Amendment from a protection of responsible gun use into a rallying cry for extremists and a free ticket to own assault weapons.

It wasn’t always this way. The Constitution authorizes Congress to organize and arm a militia, and the Second Amendment backs that up by providing that “a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”

For almost all our country’s history, courts understood that the amendment creates no personal right, only a right to bear arms in connection with state protection...

...In the late 20th century, however, a new Supreme Court took a radical turn. Starting in 1995, a 5-4 majority suddenly threw out all or parts of three modest federal laws in five years: the Gun-Free School Zones Act in 1995; the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act in 1997 (that law was passed after President Reagan was shot and his press secretary, James Brady, disabled for life); and Violence Against Women Act in 2000...

...In 2008, the Supreme Court took the next step. In District of Columbia v. Heller, a 5-4 majority simply rewrote the Second Amendment — strong language, but inescapable. These justices announced that only the words in the second half of the amendment — “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” — meant anything, while the first half — “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state” —carefully crafted by James Madison and the other Founding Fathers, meant nothing at all. The first half of the Second Amendment, five justices said, was simply a “prologue,” and “prologues,” they said, don’t count. They repeated the word “prologue” 10 times. Thus, the first dozen words of the Second Amendment just disappeared. Its guiding purpose — “the security of a free state” — also disappeared from the Supreme Court’s view.

These cases all dealt with federal law. But these justices — who say they favor states’ rights — soon applied their newfound constitutional theory to dismantling widely popular state gun laws, too. In 2010, in McDonald v. Chicago, the Supreme Court began throwing out gun laws passed by the states. Last summer, in New York Rifle Association v. Bruen, the majority, now 6-3, threw out a New York state law that had been on the books for nearly 150 years. The dissenting opinion in that case cited gun-violence statistics, but Justice Samuel Alito complained that statistics were not relevant. Yet, statistics about rising gun violence show that the Second Amendment’s purpose — “the security of a free state” — is getting farther and farther away. A dozen states and hundreds of counties nationwide, calling themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries,” have resolved not to enforce any gun laws. Colorado’s red-flag law might have saved the five murder victims of a Colorado Springs nightclub shooting last fall had El Paso County enforced it.

Make no mistake; the Supreme Court’s 30-year string of ruling for guns, plus its invention of false doctrine — the “prologue” theory -- has endangered “the security of a free State” — just the opposite of the Second Amendment’s command. The Supreme Court has helped normalize the use, and misuse, of guns, bringing high-powered weapons from movie screens to our streets and schools and every public and private place where security, not danger, should abide.

  143. Evangelical group's naive embrace of U.N.'s 'climate science'

    By Donna Laframboise

Last summer the National Association of Evangelicals, an organization largely in America but with some representation in my country, Canada, published a report that urges Christians to care deeply about climate change. Titled "Loving the Least of These," it relies on the work of a United Nations entity to make its case.

Having written two books about that entity – the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC – I was sorry to discover that "Loving the Least of These" exhibits an alarming degree of naivety.

Let us start with the U.N. itself. Whatever else it may be, this is a massive bureaucracy. Bureaucracies are staffed by careerists who hop from assignment to assignment, leaving the real-world consequences of their decisions far behind. It's important to understand that U.N. personnel carry a permanent get-out-of-jail-free card in their back pockets. It's called diplomatic immunity, and it means they can never be held legally responsible for their actions.

In 2010, U.N. peacekeepers inadvertently introduced cholera to post-earthquake Haiti. Terrible sickness was added to the trauma of a terrible natural disaster. An estimated 10,000 Haitians lost their lives to that cholera. Families endured immense suffering.

The U.N. spent years denying, stonewalling and covering up the harm it had inflicted. A whitewash report pointed fingers at Haitians but not the peacekeepers (who'd been deployed from Nepal following a cholera outbreak in that country). Prior to admitting the obvious, U.N. experts tried mightily to blame the cholera on climate change. Lawsuits went nowhere due to the above-mentioned legal immunity.

If I were teaching a college course about the U.N., I'd start by requiring my students to read two books. "The Big Truck That Went By: How the World Came to Save Haiti and Left Behind a Disaster" was written by Jonathan Katz, a journalist stationed there when the earthquake hit. "Deadly River: Cholera and Cover-up in Post-Earthquake Haiti" tells the story of a French physician called in to investigate. Written by Ralph Frerichs, it shows the U.N. failing one moral test after another. Most of us have never witnessed the U.N. in action. Between them, these books provide a front row seat. It is not a pretty picture.

Organizations that lack accountability mechanisms are dangerous. The U.N. is one such organization. Nothing it says, therefore, should ever be taken at face value.

So let us now turn to the U.N.'s climate panel, the IPCC.

"Loving the Least of These" tells us that, because the scientists who write IPCC reports are unpaid volunteers who "do not get royalties from the final products," they are less likely to be biased. This is a lovely theory. Unfortunately, reality is more complicated.

Before I address the institution itself, let me address the inference that because the scientists who prepare its reports are unpaid, they are unbiased.

Money isn't the only thing of value. Being a lead author, coordinating lead author, or contributor to an IPCC report bolsters an academician's reputation, which will contribute to his or her ability to gain teaching and research positions, tenure, publication in professional journals and many other benefits of enormous financial value. Those things are worth far more than any monetary fee a contributor might receive.

    [cont]

    ReplyDelete
  144. [cont]

    Now, on to the institution.

The IPCC, as its name reveals, is an intergovernmental entity – a collection of government representatives whose activities are managed and orchestrated by U.N. personnel. Scientists have never been in charge at the IPCC. After being assigned to work on a particular chapter, they're told what to write about, and how many words they're permitted to use. Report topics are pre-determined by IPCC upper management years in advance, in consultation with governments. If the government of country X wants topic Y to be discussed, the scientists are obliged to do so, even if reliable research is scant to non-existent. The scientists have so little leeway that one group was advised in 2013 that they couldn't change the word "systems" to "ecosystems" in the title of their chapter without first gaining the approval of multiple levels of the IPCC bureaucracy. In other words, IPCC scientists are mere cogs in the bureaucratic machine. Even if every last one of them were 100% free of bias, the machine itself is the problem.

Major IPCC reports are typically thousands of pages long. Since few people will ever read them in their entirety, at the end of the report-writing process summary documents are produced – one for each of three sections. Each summary is a few dozen pages and is written by a subset of the scientists involved. These aren't selected randomly but are handpicked by the powers that be. Even then, the summaries they produce are clearly labeled "drafts."

How does a draft become a final document? By passing through fire. The final version is whatever emerges out the other end of a massive, week-long IPCC meeting attended by representatives of every government that cares to participate. At this meeting, scientists are outnumbered by politicians, diplomats and bureaucrats. Paragraph by paragraph, the draft summary is examined. It is wrangled over. One government wants to remove three words. Another government wants to insert two sentences. Only when everyone in the room consents do they move on to the next paragraph.

These meetings take place behind closed doors. Activists from organizations such as Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) are allowed to attend, but journalists and members of the public are not. The people who wrote "Loving the Least of These" sincerely believe the IPCC is morally upstanding and trustworthy. But if that is so, why the secrecy? Why the security guards at the door? What are journalists not supposed to see? What is the public not supposed to know?

Like clockwork, at the end of the week a U.N. spokesperson announces at a news conference that "Science has spoken!" If science were truly in the driver's seat, the scientists would finish their report and it would get released promptly. They'd write up a summary and it, too, would be released promptly – no meeting, no wrangling by politicians, diplomats and bureaucrats.

In the IPCC universe, the final version of the summary is made public before the lengthy report. Why? Because, as astonishing as it sounds, it's normal practice at the IPCC to go back and tweak things to ensure the original report agrees with the politically negotiated summary. In 2013, nine out of 14 chapters of one section of the report had to be revisited, with more than 20 changes being made to a single chapter. You read that right. The report gets altered. Because, contrary to how things happen elsewhere, the summary is the one document that rules them all.

Journalists have done an abysmal job of explaining how the IPCC actually operates. It's understandable that the average person has no idea what really goes on. As someone who has watched the climate world for more than a decade, I'm sorry to report that the IPCC does not deserve our trust. The National Association of Evangelicals' naive embrace of this organization is therefore unwarranted.

    Craig,

Isn't that all one big ad hominem?

If anything...all those politicians involved in the final report likely watered down the science on behalf of their industries and wealthy donors.

And why trust Donna Laframboise? She's not unbiased herself. She's an author selling books. She has ties to oil and tobacco industry (including being a featured speaker at Heartland Institute events) and she's not a scientist at all. She's got a degree in Woman's Studies. I don't know the lady but I'm thinking she's a new-age leftist looking to make a living by lying.

Even Anthony Watt's website What's up with that Watts? while reviewing Donna's industry blog, nonconsensus dot org had this to say about Donna Laframboise:

“The content at noconsensus.org makes clear that we are dealing with a writer who does propaganda, not any investigative journalism driving by an honest desire to learn and understand.”

    Source: “(2) D.Laframboise’s Blind Spot… a peek at noconsensus.org,” Watt’s Up With That Watts, February 3, 2013. Archive.is URL: https://archive.is/pQZJF

None of this has anything to do with the actual science of climate change.

    x

  151. X,

Reading through Watts' criticisms of Laframboise, I don't see anything that relates specifically to the content I posted. So, what does your comment @ 2:26 PM having to do with the actual content of her words in my 8:12, 14 AM post?

    Craig,

It relates by the fact that even climate deniers like Anthony Watts sees Mrs. Laframboise as a grifting propagandist lacking any desire to "learn and understand" that which she critiques

Yes...I ad hominem attacked Mrs. Laframboise's ad hominem attack on the IPCC.

As I pointed out...none of her words addressed the actual content of any IPCC report which is understandable seeing that she is not a scientist. The process of drafting reports by the IPCC may or may not entirely be as she describes it...doesn't make it or demonstrate that it's erroneous. All reports have bias so she's not uncovered some big surprise.

I did make a counterpoint to her implication the involvement of politicians would likely make it deviate from the science. I agree --- but probably in the opposite manner than she's implying. I think politicians, controlled and beholden to industry, would fight hard to water down and lessen the impacts to industry in their own countries with regards to climate change. Not always.

I also think her blaming the UN for sending help to Haiti after the massive 2010 earthquake and, inadvertently, spreading Cholera, is a bit of a reach. It's not like the World Health Organization didn't fight the outbreak and eradicate it over the next 10 years (though there may be another small outbreak again in 2022). Liability for a contagion spread by a peacekeeping and humanitarian mission is kind of punching a gift horse in the mouth. How such outbreak in Haiti really relates to climate change reports looks like fool's gold (empty inferences).

    x

    ReplyDelete
  154. X @ 9:26 PM,

That was 2013. I don't recall seeing Watts describe her as a "grifter". But that's just about your favorite ad hominem description of anyone you disagree with. In any case, perhaps she has grown in knowledge since then?

Well, at least this time you added some reasoning to add to your 2:26 PM critique. And, at least you tempered it a bit.

Don't you agree that scientific research should be peer-reviewed by scientists? And shouldn't these scientists be the one distilling it into a summary?

You wrote: I think politicians, controlled and beholden to industry, would fight hard to water down and lessen the impacts to industry in their own countries with regards to climate change.

But perhaps these politicians are, rather, using the 'results' to effect totalitarianism, as in global control? Isn't this what Constance Cumbey has been stating for quite a few years now?

The bit about cholera points to the UN's initial attempts at hiding its role in its spread. Why hide it at all? This certainly can be used to illustrate that the UN has other things to hide...

The Russians were behind a lot of GOP disinformation. The Russians LOVED Maga and the election of Trump. They've always been insecure about their brands of totalitarianism and Maga/Trump was a complete gift to showing the world democracy can be unstable and prone to whims of lunatics too. Jan 6th was icing on the cake while Senators like Grassley stood by defending Trump, questioning the election and the legitimate transfer of power.

On another note and talking about ineffective humorless persons "full of malarkey"...I got a cold call tonight (reaching out to business leaders, I presume but maybe you were invited too) from Ron Desantis inviting me to his online town hall this week. Should be stupid as he glosses over his actual failures as Govenor of Florida, home of "crystal meth and alligators" where the education system is falling apart as Ron sends all the qualified teachers packing up to seek employment in more normal states and Ron sends taxpayor money to pedophilic heresy indoctrinating Roman Catholic schools throughout the state. Deer Park, Texas company (Texas Molecular) is at the center of East Palestine, Ohio toxic wastewater disposal controversy provides statement after EPA puts PAUSE on transport operation!!!

DEER PARK, Texas – The Deer Park company that reportedly agreed to receive millions of gallons of toxic wastewater used to fight fires during the Ohio train derailment has made a statement in regard to the pause placed by federal officials on their operation.

According to Texas Molecular Vice President of Sales, Jimmy Bracher, their company has a permit that ‘allows over 230 million gallons [of wastewater] annually.’ Bracher added that the staffers at TM process approximately five to seven million gallons each month, and that they’ve seen loads bigger than the one officials from East Palestine, Ohio planned on sending for disposal.

On Saturday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency stated that they would be placing a temporary halt on the operation until they can review and approve the process after criticism from Harris County elected officials.

In response, Bracher said that TM is not required by permit to alert authorities in advance of shipments, however, he says they typically brief local stakeholders when a project has high visibility, “like this one.”

Additionally, Bracher says their company started receiving the wastewater by truck on Feb. 16. As of Feb. 24, workers have safely offloaded 167 trucks (about 747,000 gallons).

On Sunday, the EPA approved the wastewater to be transported to two other Ohio cities. It is unclear if the EPA will approve the operation and allow TM to proceed with the disposal of the water in Harris County.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said the entire situation was ‘bad communication’ between her office and those at TM, stating it would have been a courtesy to be made aware of the transport happening throughout her county.

I know I've said all along here that a lab leak makes the most sense to me. There's zero evidence it was intentional and I think the Chinese researchers, under pressure to make advancements in science by their party leadership, undertook ill-advised research outside of US involvement and in line with the research they applied for US Defense Dept funding for and were rejected. China party officials pushed them to do it anyway and here we are. Human error and human pride.

We will likely never know for certain though I suspect China politically might try to find a way to blame the US using some clandestine leaks to the alt-right media just begging for "proof" of their predetermined conspiracy. Why wouldn't China try to destabalize us?

I hesitate to share a LA Times article, as I know it's considered a very biased source but what they point out about the weakness of the most recent lab leak "most likely" theory is interesting and not a perspective likely shared by infotainer, Tucker Carlson (I've not watch his report - I don't waste much time on self-confessed disinformers).

Column: Contrary to latest claims, there’s still not a speck of evidence that COVID escaped from a Chinese lab

    https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2023-02-27/contrary-wsj-claim-theres-still-not-a-speck-of-evidence-that-covid-escaped-from-a-chinese-lab

..... The [Wall Street] Journal also reported, however, that the agency “made its judgment with ‘low confidence.’” If you’re confused about how a judgment made with “low confidence” can result in a conclusion that something is “most likely,” join the club. I’ll come back to that. But let’s start with the basics: There is no evidence — not a smidgen, particle, speck or iota — that COVID leaked from a lab. There never has been.

The virology and epidemiology communities, which base their conclusions on empirical data, overwhelmingly favor the conclusion that the pandemic originated in human contacts with infected wildlife, known as the “zoonotic” hypothesis. That’s how previous pathogens reached the human community, and the evidence that it has done so in this case is powerful and getting progressively stronger.

Almost from the start, the lab leak theory has been reliant on conjecture and fueled by Trumpian ideology that has infected, like the pathogens in all those zombie movies and TV shows, the entire Republican Party. For them, the claim that the pandemic escaped from a Chinese laboratory to infect the world is a convenient weapon to wield against China and perhaps hobble its ability to challenge America’s global economic primacy.

    ...

The Journal’s latest “scoop,” to cite the laudatory description offered by the newspaper’s own editorial writers, follows the pattern of all other lab leak claims reported in the news media. It reports no new evidence, only a purported change of tone in the Energy Department’s viewpoint.

The article is based on a classified document that the Journal acknowledges it hasn’t seen, the gist of which was retailed to the Journal by “people who have read the classified report.”

The Journal said the Energy Department based its ostensibly changed viewpoint on “new intelligence, further study of academic literature and consultation with experts outside government,” but didn’t describe that new intelligence, nor did it identify the academic literature or outside experts the agency supposedly used. It certainly doesn’t sound as if the Energy Department had brought new empirical evidence to bear on the question of COVID’s origin. What does the term “low confidence” tell us about the quality of the Journal’s “scoop”?

Here’s how the National Intelligence Council, the umbrella organization for the nation’s intelligence community, explained the term in 2017: “Low confidence generally means that the information’s credibility and/or plausibility is uncertain, that the information is too fragmented or poorly corroborated to make solid analytical inferences, or that reliability of the sources is questionable.”....

X is a big government big pharma apologist and accomplice ($$$)--and guilty as hell.
He always, without exception, excuses and promotes it's "business as usual" status quo. (Maybe he is soulless too?)

I sit at the bedside grieving over medicine as it expires into a soulless technocracy. I watch its extremities cyanose as it struggles for air, its body reeking with the stench of commingled corruption and cowardice. Yet I hope for its resuscitation."
