You want to see pictures, here's a few later ones

Sorry to put this up.  A rather catty "anonymous" poster suggested I was posting a picture of myself from the 1960s. That actually was an official Detroit Bar Association picture of me from the 1980s.  I realize that 's a little ways back, but it's the last official glossy I have.  Now, if you want to see a few pictures of me from later eras -- something I have refrained from doing, but my son posted some to his Facebook page, here's a few to satisfy that poster's unkind suggestions  For the record, the picture is unretouched.  I have never had a facelift.  The black glossy stays, at least for now.

Me, summer 2010 in my office

My son, Stephen Cumbey
My oldest grandson, Zander Cumbey
My grandson, Nolan Dean Cumbey
This is not to foreclose discussion on the earlier threads.  But since evidently a few of you are dying of curiosity, here's a little "Facebook" here on my blogspot.

Stay tuned and in good humor!

Most bloggers don't publish pics of themselves. I've always been glad to see the person who owns the blog I'm posting on (even though I don't post anything here that often and it's usually fairly useless and argumentative). Putting up recent pictures shows some courage. But who really cares? I don't always agree with you but I do appreciate you, Constance. I come here to find news nobody is reporting. God bless you.

"Europe’s foreign, security and defence policy: past achievements and new challenges

Paris, 8 March 2011 – The Political Committee of the European Security and Defence Assembly (ESDA), meeting today...One year after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, the EU is not in good shape and for reasons that are not solely economic or financial...All EU countries, in particular those bordering the Mediterranean, were concerned and could make a useful contribution to a “joint action”. Mr JONES concluded that while it was possible to create a “critical mass” of member states to build a credible CSDP, instruments established at European level were still essential in any given scenario."

  17. Constance,

    I love your photos!

Newt Gingrich has been a hot topic on conservative talk radio programs recently and is gearing up to announce his 2012 run for the presidency. I heard him interview earlier today on Mike Gallagher.

He is speaking at Liberty U's "Awakening" conference April 8 & 9. (How's that for a NA-sounding title?)

You have commented before on Gingrich's very NA connections with Alvin & Heidi Toffler. Given that he is preparing to enter the field and is being courted by Christian conservatives, could you revisit this topic and speak out about his global New Age views again?

Also, I have a friend who was converted out of Mormonism. She is very concerned about Mitt Romney. Apparently the Mormons have a prophecy regarding overtaking the US and establishing a Mormon kingdom. Given that the NAE is hosting a conference in Utah to find common ground between Mormons and Evangelicals, I see a powerful deception afoot.

Of course it's too early to tell, but if Gingrich and Romney ran together...after 4 years of Obama....that could be catastrophic politically speaking!

"EU ushers in 'silent revolution' in control of national economic policies

The new framework constructs unprecedented new intervention in national budget and economic decisions (Photo: EU Commission)

    LEIGH PHILLIPS

    Today @ 10:27 CET

EUOBSERVER / FEATURE - After months of often bitter back-room negotiations, European finance ministers have finally given the green light to a radical new centralised EU oversight of national budgeting processes and, broader still, of all economic policies - both of countries that use the single currency and those that do not.

    (snip)

The ministers were not endorsing a light work-out of economic sit-ups, but a different sort of regime entirely - a half a dozen new far-reaching laws that the commissioner said "will lead to a quantum leap of economic surveillance in Europe..." those at the heart of the EU are under no illusion about the profound transformation the bloc is about to undergo.

"What is going on is a silent revolution - a silent revolution in terms of stronger economic governance by small steps," commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said last June..

    A very tight leash

...all economic policies - and not just for one year, but over the longer term.

    (snip)

All economic policies now under the microscope

    (snip)

Sony Kapoor, for one, the director of Re-Define, a Brussels-based economic-policy think-tank, warned that whatever the new rules hope to achieve, they do not tackle the root causes of the crisis..."The Council's approach of decreeing economic outcomes assumes levels of government control over economic outcomes that does not even exist in China, leave alone free-market European economies," he said...they cover not just eurozone countries, but the whole of the EU.

    (snip)

EU premiers and presidents and Strasbourg have yet to deliver their endorsement to the Six Pack, but barring unexpected revisions, Europe has changed utterly."

    A Glowing Report on Radiation
    by Ann Coulter

"...This only seems counterintuitive because of media hysteria for the past 20 years trying to convince Americans that radiation at any dose is bad. There is, however, burgeoning evidence that excess radiation operates as a sort of cancer vaccine.

"As The New York Times science section reported in 2001, an increasing number of scientists believe that at some level -- much higher than the minimums set by the U.S. government -- radiation is good for you. "They theorize," the Times said, that "these doses protect against cancer by activating cells' natural defense mechanisms.

"...Although it is hardly a settled scientific fact that excess radiation is a health benefit, there's certainly evidence that it decreases the risk of some cancers -- and there are plenty of scientists willing to say so. But Jenny McCarthy's vaccine theories get more press than Harvard physics professors' studies on the potential benefits of radiation. (And they say conservatives are anti-science!)....."

The EU and Recent Events in the Southern Mediterranean

The historic events underway in the Middle East took the European Union, along with many other elements and observers, by surprise...ramifications of possible changes on Israel’s relations with the EU.

The intention is to have concrete proposals formulated by April 2011, when a comprehensive examination of the ENP will take place.

From Jack Cashill's book Deconstructing Obama.
    http://www.cashill.com/

"Not many Chicagoans would understand who "Frank" (Marshall Davis) was, but some of those who did still mattered. One was Vernon Jarrett. As a young journalist, he and Davis had worked together in a communist front, The Citizens' Committee to Aid Packinghouse Workers. By the time Obama arrived in Chicago, Jarrett, at that point a syndicated columnist, was a proven kingmaker. "He stoked the political embers in Chicago that led to the 1983 election of the city's first African American mayor, Harold Washington," wrote the Washington Post of Jarrett in its 2004 obituary. His daughter-in-law Valerie Jarrett, would become Obama's closest adviser."

The rise of Europe's religious right

"...Worryingly, religion is also increasingly making its presence felt in the corridors of the European Union – even though the EU was designed as a strictly secular project. ..

"We are witnessing the emergence of the European equivalent to the "religious right" in the US. Areas affected by this rise include women's rights, gay rights and sexual and reproductive health rights as well as healthcare (such as contraception, abortion, condoms and IVF). Freedom of expression is also affected, generally in the form of laws against blasphemy. Freedom of religion is often conceived as a collective right of religion to exempt itself from the law, particularly the EU fundamental rights.."

This article makes it clear that there is a war on religious freedom, and the rise of the religious right is a threat to them, a threat that must be handled.
