Solana's fleet to take over anti-piracy operations from NATO

According to an article appearing today in the international edition of the New York Times (the International Herald Tribune), the European Union's fleet is taking over Somalian anti-piracy operations from NATO. Europe plans to manage the operation with six (6) warships and three (3) maritime anti-reconnaissance aircraft. The operation, per Javier Solana, is named "Operation Atalanta." Breaking news this morning was that a cruise vessel with 1,000 aboard was attacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden. The ships are being supplied by England, France, Greece, and Germany. Quoting from the International Herald Tribune article:

"The task force — codenamed Operation Atalanta — will be the EU's first naval operation. It will have the same duties as the NATO mission, including escorting cargo vessels, protecting merchant ships and deterring pirate attacks.

"These tasks will be done with very robust rules of engagement," Solana told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers."

Javier Solana has long been calling for a complete consolidation of all European military facilities of all European Union member countries. Javier Solana is the head of the "chain of command" of all such operations. Judging from the October 28th Der Spiegel from which the above picture is taken, Javier Solana has lots of troops in the global field, so to speak. If Solana is even half-way successful in controlling or reducing the piracy problem, his prestige on the international scene is sure to vastly increase.

Stay tuned!

For the longest time our US soldiers were used for the UN police force, I am actually glad they found another besides ours now. Although I also understand the implications of Solana having his own military too.

a Constitutional clause known as the “Emoluments Clause,” Hillary Clinton cannot legally become secretary of state until her Senate term expires in 2013.

Article I, Section 6, of the Constitution says this: “No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time.”
**I'm confident they will find a way around this, as has been done before.

    All,

Here's the Somalia piracy patrol info from a Somali source:

    http://tinyurl.com/5aclv8

I've wondered why these nefarious pirate vessels haven't been strafed/bombed and boarded. Now I know that there is a UN mandate that prevents the boats from being boarded and the hostages from being freed from that action.

I'll try to go to the UN site and look up the specific mandate to see what it says.

P.S. I was looking at something on TV the other night about the pirates (think it may have been Nightline, or something similar). Seems that there is a "pirate code of honor," which decrees that vessels are taken captive simply for ransom, and that the hostages are to be given food, water, and bathroom breaks.

    Imagine--who knew????

I have a vague remembrance of an American who became famous for taming pirates, Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson beat the stuffing out of pirates at Tripoli in what is now Lebanon, unless there is more than one Tripoli.
From this comes the Marine fight song, "From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli" and so forth.

YS- I am not a law scholar nor a constitutional scholar, but I did stay at such and such motel last night! No, I mean, I did see on CNN the other day this issue about Hillary and whether she can serve in that capacity. The newstalkers said it was an issue on the blogs. I guess the problem was something like approving a budget or something which increased the pay of the offered position. However, the theory was that if it becomes an obstacle, then, as in some past precedent, the payraise can be voted to be negated, and the pay scale can return to the way it was before Hillary became senator and voted on it. I probably have some facts a little confused, but that was the essence of the discussion.

    From Christianpost.com (12/02/08):

Evangelist Franklin Graham delivered a message Sunday night at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., mixing a bit of politics into his call for repentance.

Reading from 2 Samuel 9:1-8, Graham recalled an event in the life of King David, in which the ancient ruler of Israel seeks to show God's kindness to the son of his childhood friend Jonathan.

“You see, David is a picture of God in Heaven.” Graham told service attendees at the megachurch of evangelist Greg Laurie.

“And we’re Mephibosheth,” he continued, referring to the Jonathan’s crippled son. “We’ve been crippled by sin and we come before the King and the King shows kindness and love and mercy.”

During the message, Graham listed a variety of sins, from lying and stealing to bearing false witness.

Most emphasized, however, was the sin of murder, in particular abortion.

“You say, ‘Well come on, Franklin. This is California. We’re kind of a liberal state, but they’ll still put you in jail for murder around here.’ No, they don’t,” Graham said before pointing to abortion as a form of murder.

“There’s some of you here tonight who are guilty, guilty of murder. And there are some of you men ... you’re guilty because you’ve approved of what your girlfriend has done or what your wife has done or your sister has done,” he said. “You’ve approved it, and you’re guilty too.”

The evangelist then went on to recall the story of a woman from “one of those liberal New York magazines” who conducted a two-day interview with him some time ago.

After growing a bit tired from the interview, Graham had asked the reporter if he could ask her a few questions.

When she told him to go ahead, Graham asked her where she stood before God.

“All of a sudden her eyes filled up with tears,” he recalled. Graham then went on to share the Gospel with her and prayed with her, though they were at a restaurant at the time.

The ministry leader then recalled how the woman turned to him and said she had to confess something to him at that moment.

“You don’t have to confess anything to me. God is forgiving you,” Graham told her.

“No, I have to tell you,” she responded.

“Twenty years ago, I had an abortion and it has haunted me all the days of my life,” she said. “And there hasn’t been a day that hasn’t gone by that I haven’t asked myself what that child would have looked like.

“Can God forgive me for what I have done?” she asked.

“I said, ‘He just did,’” Graham recalled. “Then she buried her face in her hands and just wept.”

Tony Blair was calling for more emphasis on solving the Mideast conflict. Israel is coming down on the settlers in Hebron ( the biblical burial place of Abraham and Sarah among others). Livni is cozying up to the EU.

To add insult to injury the CFR came out with a new report that is negative towards Israel in the peace process. Surprise, surprise, many if not all of the new members of the Obama cabinet have CFR background.

The fight about Obama's citizenship has not gone away and the the Electoral College votes December 15. Obama shown on TV endorsing the Clinton Global Initiative in a Clinton paid add..

Questions as to whether Netanyahu will work with Obama or not, even though he's not officially elected yet...the jury is out.

The recession won't get better for another 2 years according to Obama and Bill Clinton. They seem to be coordinating their remarks...

The campaign for Change has turned into the old boys ( and girls) network.. The CFR is very much in charge.

Gates became Secretary of Defense after the Baker Hamilton report, another CFR sponsored document which makes attacking Iran impossible, talking to Iran, Syria a good idea.. Baker is still on as Defense Secretary because he is part of CFR agenda.

There is talk by EU about reopening Orient House in East Jerusalem which was closed after a series of suicide bombings in 2001.

The French were pushing Israelis in Judea and Samaria not to stop natural growth i.e. having babies, according to article in JP Opinion section.

They have all forgotten that God's Word is eternal:

Zech. 2:7 -13“Ho, Zion! Escape, you who are living with the daughter of Babylon.” For thus says the LORD of hosts, “After glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye. “For behold, I will wave My hand over them so that they will be plunder for their slaves. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me. “Sing for joy and be glad, O daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” declares the LORD. “Many nations will join themselves to the LORD in that day and will become My people. Then I will dwell in your midst, and you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. “The LORD will possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem. Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD; for He is aroused from His holy habitation.”

As the plan to divide God's Land takes shape, God will enter into judgement with the nations..We might see it in our day..

this should be real close to prophecy.Especially now that Solana has his military.

It's therefore striking that a recent proposal to deploy NATO forces in the West Bank as part of an Obama peace deal is quickly gaining advocates in both Washington and the Levant. Former U.S. national-security advisers Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski both recently endorsed the idea. The president-elect's nominee to head the National Security Council, Gen. James Jones—a former NATO supreme commander—is also said to favor such a force. Israelis and Palestinians have raised tepid protests, but even they seem to be realizing increasingly that a strong international presence will be critical if any deal is to be struck—and if it's to stick. "A principle that appeared to be out of bounds I think is now in bounds," says Tony Blair, the Mideast envoy of the Quartet (made up of the United States, the EU, the U.N. and Russia).

Also the US Supreme court will discuss dec 4 if they should see the case of Obama citizenship. there is also some dirty deeds going on in the Supreme court as some of the lawyers paper work was deverted for anthrax checking even though it was marked urgent.

    To Skeptical,

Blackwater is a private security firm. If they were not working in Mumbai at the time of the terrorist attack, it is most likely because no one hired them to provide security services at the Taj hotel.

Moreover, Blackwater personnel have to be very careful not to run afoul of the laws/"powers that be" in the countries in which they operate - as in the case of the following:

Overheard on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" this morning . . .

On Tuesday, the 3 big automaker CEOs (GM, Ford, Chrysler) traveled to Washington, D.C. to ask Congress (for a second time) for money to save their companies.

This time, they traveled by automobile caravan in high-mileage hybrid vehicles.

Host, Joe Scarborough then jokingly teased about a "bailout carpool" -- that maybe they had prepared by taking along box lunches so they wouldn't have to make any stops, comparing them to the diaper-wearing female astronaut who drove from Houston to Florida without stopping along the way.

    From Yahoo News (12/03/08)

The economy has crashed down on an industry once believed immune from the worst — book publishing — with consolidation at Random House Inc., and layoffs at Simon & Schuster and Thomas Nelson Publishers.

"Yes, Virginia, book publishing is NOT recession proof," said Patricia Schroeder, president and chief executive officer of the Association of American Publishers. "It's sad day."

At Random House, the country's largest general trade publisher, the man who helped give the world "The Da Vinci Code" is in talks for a new position, while the publisher of Danielle Steel and other brand-name authors is leaving altogether.

Stephen Rubin, who released Dan Brown's blockbuster thriller in 2003, is negotiating for a different job after Random House eliminated his position as president and publisher of the Doubleday Publishing Group. Bantam Dell head Irwyn Applebaum, whose many authors have included Steel, Dean Koontz and Louis L'Amour, is departing, effective immediately.

Random House, under the leadership of chief executive officer Markus Dohle, announced the changes Wednesday as part of a "new publishing structure" that will "maximize our growth potential in these challenging economic times and beyond."

This question is off topic to Solana's gathering of his forces - although since it seems he still falls victim to Satan's lies, maybe this isn't that far off topic.

Can someone tell me if the practice of "NIA Technique" is New Age and how best to Biblically show this linkage to someone?

A new person to our church, has begun sending emails to everyone in our small group [as the new small group coordinator] and they are putting a link and picture of their personal NIA page at the bottom. At first it only troubled me that their personal info was being forced on us through the guise of a small group emailing, but now these emails are being forwarded in a churchwide email.

So, I think what is really troubling me is that this NIA stuff - which appears to me to be New Age in nature - is being disseminated throughout our whole church with little regard to its content and potential damage. Maybe I'm seeing too much in this, but when a little yeast gets in it can cause the whole bread to be yeastfilled!

I just finished reading "The Hidden Dangers of the Rainbow" after having previously read Herb Peters' "Recommendation 666" and I am still in a little bit of shock over the scope and span of the New Age movement. I had no idea it was that big for that long and how prevalent it is today in mainstream Christianity - and how easy it is for good Christians to fall victim to Satan's plan and lies.

    Peace,
    Bobbie
