I might agree that I give as many opinions as Suzanne gives pieces of information. My sons laughed when I told them about the opinion thing, both saying they get too many of my opinions and are glad to see someone else notices I give a lot of them.

It's good when so many people contribute good information. When people do that, they get involved and are likely to do good here in the comments section and in the regular world.

I've been at this since 1982. Being retired I can follow things every day. I have so many bookmarks and places I looked at I forget why I looked at them in the first place. I could fill the comments section with tons of names, dates and places. Information that is old to me is very new to many posters. What would be the point? It is better that the information sharing be spread around among as many people as possible. I try to just post when something is new for me, thinking it will be new to many people.

I often try to mix in commentary with factual material. That's were the opinion thing comes in. Even as I type this a song keeps running through my head.

You talk too much
You worry me to death
You talk too much
You even worry my pet

You just talk
Talk too much

You talk about people
That you don't know
You talk about people
Wherever you go

.....and that's my opinion.

DorothyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11772087.post-55662408198022802352008-07-17T17:11:00.000-04:002008-07-17T17:11:00.000-04:00You've been complimented more than once at this di...You've been complimented more than once at this discussion forum over the last week, Dorothy. I think they make a very compassionate, human rights case for a rethinking of the world order (Responsibility to Protect). Constance wrote in an article that the Brookings Institute was essential for intellectual cover.:

"As Carlos Pascual, Strobe Talbott, and Javier Solana all emphasized at the Brookings Institution (a BASIC networker), it was imperative that they have their networks and their intellectual underpinnings in place by 2009. The contribution from the Brookings Institution alone, per Carlos Pascuale was to be the formation of supportive networks, two books giving intellectual underpinning, and plans ready for presentation to the new American president in 2009."

I think advisors like Samantha Powers and Susan Rice are a good public persona for Senator Obama. They are the lower level face on these theories. But they have been making the intellectual case for international intervention and a change in world governance. I've seen both interviewed regarding his foreign policy - Senator Obama will be right in line with Mr. Solana.

They beautifully articulate the need for global governance. One by using her experience in Africa (think Darfur) and the other using her experience in Bosnia.

DeannieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11772087.post-85423063428566197282008-07-17T01:09:00.000-04:002008-07-17T01:09:00.000-04:00For those who may not have the time to check links...For those who may not have the time to check links:

“ The aim of this project is ambitious and urgent: to launch a new reform effort for the global security system in 2009 ... It's nice to see that a President Obama's thinking is already in line with Mr. Solana.:

Another Obama advisor is Susan Rice:

Check out this upcoming 02/26/08 event at the Brookings intistute:

http://www.brookings.edu/events/2008/0226_weakstates.aspx

They are helpfully going to "release the Index of State Weakness in the Developing World, an effort designed to provide policy-makers and researchers with a credible tool for analyzing and understanding the world's most vulnerable countries"

Notice in particular how Rice, former NSC member and United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from October 1997 until January 20, 2001, is co chairing this panel with Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), who chairs the House Armed Services Committee’s Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee.

also this:

http://www.brookings.edu/papers/2006/08globaleconomics_rice.aspx

Those pesky weak states just need the UN, EU or US to enforce their R2P.

The R2P means Responsibility to Protect. Much of the work on this is done through Harvard. You can check out Samantha Powers at Harvard. She is the Anna Lindh Professor of Practice of Global Leadership and Public Policy at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. She was a former US News and World Report reporter who covered the wars in the Balkans. Until recently, she was an advisor to Senator Obama (she was the advisor that called Senator Clinton a monster.)

There is an effort to tie weak states to terrorism. This gives them a pretext to intervene in other countries. Why I say, in a tongue in cheek way, an economic meltdown in the US might get us listed on the weak states list.

DeannieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11772087.post-34990268828689625192008-07-17T00:27:00.000-04:002008-07-17T00:27:00.000-04:00I should have addressed it, Anonymous 11:32Deannie...I should have addressed it,
Anonymous 11:32

DeannieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11772087.post-83393300326726509662008-07-17T00:26:00.000-04:002008-07-17T00:26:00.000-04:00Anonymous,That is the same group that advises Sena...Anonymous,

That is the same group that advises Senator Obama. As Christians we are not to rejoice in the death of our enemies: “God does not delight in the destruction of the wicked. . . Love your enemies”; strange just how good it is in my spirit to pray for them. I imagine that there are other cultures that exchange gifts in that way, but I’m not aware of them. I did have this verse from Revelation stand in comparison to that custom: “ And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, [the death of the two witnesses] and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.”Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11772087.post-89626456234165869922008-07-16T17:39:00.000-04:002008-07-16T17:39:00.000-04:00"THERE SHALL BE EARTHQUAKE IN DIVERS PLACES" . . ...."THERE SHALL BE EARTHQUAKE IN DIVERS PLACES" . . .
