BREAKING NEWS and again "Managing Global Insecurity" circa 2008

UPDATE:  JULY 16, 2008

Looks like Solana is still calling the shots on the new "Mediterranean Union" variation on a theme of the Barcelona Process which began under him in November 1995.

According to a current Reuters article, the European Union is about ready to enter into a partnership agreement with Syria, the first new one under the updated Barcelona Process in the form of the MU.  The announcement was made by Javier Solana.

Solana gave a speech at a July 15-16 combined Brookings Institution / Bertelsmann Foundation  -- about global governance -- from his itinerary:

"No time to go it alone Responsible Sovereignty and International Cooperation for a Changed World"

That speech was  clearly a followup on an earlier Brookings Institution keynote speech he gave on global governance on March 21, 2007, "Managing Global Insecurity. " This one again is for a Bertelsman/Brookings conference named -- guess what?  MANAGING GLOBAL INSECURITY."  Stay tuned!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water . . .  And why do I feel so insecure -- what with Javier Solana, the Bertelsmann Foundation and our very own Brookings Institution, "Managing Global Insecurity"?

Yes, Setterman...details

The most important detail I came across today is found with-in Part 2 of this "Inside Story" google news video. Ignasi Guardans, a member of the European Parliament, (one of three who participated in the video) very
emphatically stated
that the OFFICIAL title is NOT
"The Union of the Mediterranean"
The OFFICIAL title is:
"The BARCELONA PROCESS: Union for the Mediterranean"
He also says,
"The EU forced Mr. Sarkozy, politically forced Mr. Sarkozy, to say..."The Union for the Mediterranean is just a renovated Process of Barcelona…"
These statements are found in
Part 2 after approximately the first five minutes.

"Now is the time to inject a new and continuing momentum into the Barcelona Process.
More engagement and new catalysts are now needed to translate the objectives of the Barcelona

"The Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures as a Euro-

"In May 2008, it became public that Olmert was the subject of another police investigation. The investigation concerns bribery allegations. Olmert said that he took campaign contributions from the Jewish-American businessman Morris Talansky when he was running for Mayor of Jerusalem, leadership of the Likud and candidacy in the Likud list for the Knesset, but resisted calls to resign, and stated: "I never took bribes, I never took a penny for myself. I was elected by you, citizens of Israel, to be the prime minister and I don't intend to shirk this responsibility. If Attorney General Meni Mazuz decides to file an indictment, I will resign from my position, even though the law does not oblige me to do so."[41] [42] On May 23, National Fraud Squad investigators interrogated Olmert for an hour in his Jerusalem residence for a second time about corruption allegations. It was the 5th probe since he became prime minister and no charges had been yet filed.[43][44] On May 27, Morris Talansky testified in front of court that over the last 15 years he gave Olmert more than $150000 in cash in envelopes."

Olmert's Son: I Never Discussed Money with Talansky

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's son Shaul told police investigators that he only met American financier Moshe (Morris) Talansky once in his lifetime, and in that meeting they did not discuss money or a loan.

According to Channel 2 news, Shaul Olmert's testimony was given in the offices of the police's National Fraud Investigations Unit in Bat Yam.

Talansky reportedly claimed in earlier testimony that when he asked Olmert to pay back a loan he had given him, he was referred to his son Shaul, and that when he met Shaul to discuss the matter, he referred him back to his father.

Messer 'Implicating Olmert' in Other Corruption Charges

(IsraelNN.com) Attorney Uri Messer, who was Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's longtime partner and associate, has implicated Olmert in at least two other cases of suspected corruption, Israeli Channel 2 television said Wednesday.

According to this report, Messer is cooperating with police and giving "full information" regarding Olmert's actions in the "Small Businesses Authority affair" and the "Investment Center affair" which involve suspicions of cronyism when Olmert was Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor.

Talansky Associates "Testified Against Him"

(IsraelNN.com) David Friedland and Robert Greenberg, business partners of financier Moshe Talansky, gave "damning testimony" against Talansky and his own testimony, Channel 2 reported.

Activist Sharon Tzur was questioned at the police's National Fraud Investigations Unit headquarters in Bat Yam Wednesday evening, the channel reported. According to Talansky's testimony, Tzur was present at least once when he handed cash-stuffed envelopes to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Tzur is a former Likud activist and a longtime associate of Olmert.

This is from Moon-owned Washington Times which does not mince words.

"Unlike Mr. Peretz, Mr. Barak has never been a friend of Mr. Olmert and is widely believed to despise him. In contrast to Mr. Olmert, Mr. Barak has won high marks for restoring effective administration and focus on strategic priorities at the Kirya, the massive defense ministry building in Tel Aviv.

Mr. Barak re-established a healthy respect for Israel´s military prowess in its more hostile neighbors by masterminding an air strike against a key strategic facility, believed by many to have contained potential nuclear weapons material, in Syria. The air strike was also a significant deterrent warning to Syria´s main ally Iran as the Israeli combat aircraft neutralized the Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems that both Syria and Iran depend upon.

Mr. Barak also acted fast and decisively to get Israel´s most crucial defense program — its ambitious ballistic missile defense projects to defend the country against the threat of nuclear annihilation from Iran — back on track. Bottlenecks caused by administrative incompetence had derailed the programs urgent timetables during Mr. Peretz´s tenure as defense chief.

By contrast, Mr. Olmert´s standing with the Israeli public has gone from bad to dire. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice´s peace process with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that she launched with such fanfare at Annapolis only half a year ago is already dead as a dodo. Mr. Olmert had desperately latched on to it but it has given him nothing. And this week, the parliament by a clear majority torpedoed Mr. Olmert´s clandestine and widely distrusted efforts to broker a peace deal with Syria. Some 61 of the 120 Knesset members backed a resolution forbidding the government to cede the Golan Heights back to Syria. They included Eli Yishai, the leader of the Shas Party, which with 12 seats is Mr. Olmert´s other most important coalition partner along with Labor.

Very interesting expose about the inner workings of the people at the epicenter of all this.

Dorothy,

With regard to New Age, I am thinking in terms of analysis and practical application.

Given the articles Constance posted, I thought the specific topic of this particular thread included the deal being brokered by Israel and the Palestinians vis a vis Olmert who may be about to fall on account of corruption charges......most especially bribery.

His son who is vice president of Nikelodian (a communications media)
and lives in the U.S. is also being questioned.

Israel seems to be very important to "The Family" which has ties to the New Age Movement.....and some of whose founders were sympathetic to the Nazis and Fascists. You yourself have said on the Israel Forum that "The New Age movement is very involved in determining the plans for peace in the Middle East."

Don't you think it is important that the people of Israel weren't allowed to vote on the Gaza Plan which Benjamin Netanyahu claimed would weaken Israel? (Great shades of Lisbon Treaty!)

Well if Olmert is corrupt and has been taking bribes from an American (Morris Talansky) whose nickname is "the laundry man," don't you think he would be vulnerable to being bribed by certain treasonous New Age affiliates in Israel who might WANT to see Israel weakened? Even if Olmert isn't personally a card-carrying New Ager?

But if no one is interested in such information, by all means Constance might want to please advise.....

RESPONSE TO SUSANNA
Susanna,
You write extremely well. You research thoroughly. You are fair and honest in what you present. You care about the topic. I don't think a single person reading here would disagree with any of that.

Israel has corrupt politicians. Are there any countries that don't have most corrupt politicians. Growing up in and now living near Chicago I take corruption for granted. School boards, library boards, town councils, etc. all seem to run by people who go along to get along and maybe get to the top. Corruption in Israel is pretty well covered in so many places. Barry Chamish writes about it extremely well. So I agree with you there.

I just wonder how many people skip over your valuable contributions because they tend to be so long.

This part of the blog is supposed to be for comments, and comments are short things. It is so hard to keep up with everything posted here and I wonder how many people actually do that. My guess is that most people skim. Skimming over very long posts is discouraging.

Oh well, you'll do what you want to do in the long run. It was just a suggestion.

Just to add to what Constance said:
A blast from the past.... from an article entitled "JAVIER SOLANA & THE LARGER PLAN by Dennis Cuddy, July 23, 2007

...."Javier Solana, formerly a physics instructor in Virginia, had become the political head of NATO as part of the power elite’s larger plan. He had been supported for this position by Rhodes scholars Bill Clinton, Strobe Talbott, and U.S. Ambassador to Spain Richard Gardner, who had written in the CFR’s Foreign Affairs (April 1974) about the desirability of “an end run around national sovereignty, eroding it piece-by-piece.” Not long after Solana became political head of NATO, Rhodes Scholar General Wesley Clark was the military head of NATO from 1997 to 2000. This was during the time when NATO began bombing Yugoslav Serbians on March 24, 1999.
And who were NATO’s allies in Kosovo? They were often radical Muslims supported by Osama bin Laden. Later, Solana would visit Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert shortly before the latter’s final push against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Solana probably told him that European investments and loans in and to Israel would dry up unless Olmert backed off, which Olmert did. Why was this? Solana, an agent of the power elite, was enforcing their larger plan of a Middle East regional economic arrangement via a dialectical process of synthesizing Israeli and Arab (Jewish and Muslim) interests. This, then, could be linked to the Mediterranean regional arrangement, which would be linked to the EU, which would be linked to the US via the Transatlantic Alliance, which would be linked to NAFTA, etc. Whether with Israel or other nations, the power elite uses facilitators (e.g., Solana) employing the Delphi Technique to identify, isolate, and ostracize recalcitrants who object to the synthesizing (compromising) process.

Confirming the power elite’s plan was Zbigniew Brzezinski at Mikhail Gorbachev’s first State of the World Forum in San Francisco in 1995 when he explained: “We cannot leap into world government through one quick step. . . . The precondition for eventual and genuine globalization is progressive regionalization because by that we move toward larger, more stable, more cooperative units.”.....read more...

Susanna,

I enjoyed your post on Israel's politics. While it may not have an obvious New Age tie in, it most certainly has EuroMed implications.

The pressure for Israel to act militarily against Iran before a potential Obama presidency is great. There is a window of opportunity for Israel to act, until the end of this year. If it fails to act, Javier Solana will become much more important.

That's because he is currently the lead figure in negotiations with Iran. The Bush Admnistration would support Israel at the inevitable UN circus that would follow a bombing of Iran. A President Obama probably would not. I think, the passing of the Bush Presidency means the passing of Israel's ability to act unilaterally vis a vis Iran. Once that's gone, Israel becomes more dependent on Solana's ability to reign in Iran.

So the effect of Mr. Olmert's political troubles on his actions is very relevant to the current thread of EuroMed politics.

Susanna,

Another good post. Now if we tie that together with an Obama Presidency, we see a great leap forward (Marxist, totalitarian illusion intended) towards Gorbachev's dream. See this article regarding Senator Obama's Global Poverty Bill.

http://tinyurl.com/2gqk2p

I believe an Obama Presidency will go a long way towards diminishing US sovereignty, especially if the Democrat Party controls both houses of Congress.

Recently, Susanna posted comments on the International Baccelaureate Program. Berit Kjos has written extensively about efforts to create an international education standard. Senator Obama advocates signing the UNCRC (Rights of the Children). This will be a great push in that direction.

Article VI of the US Consitution states:

This Consitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the SUPREME LAW of the Land; and the Judges in EVERY STATE SHALL BE BOUND THEREBY, any Thing in the Consitution or Laws of and State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

As Rousseau said, "The body politic, as well as the human body, begins to die as soon as it is born, and carries in itself the causes of its destruction."

Deannie,

Thanks for the kind words.

The New Age implications are usually not obvious. When they are, I strongly suspect that it is for diversionary purposes.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that Israel gets much support even now when acting in her own self defense. I think this would become even less so with Obama and Solana in the catbird seat.

Just today Olmert's government survived a no-confidence vote.

Regarding the Gaza Plan;

Benjamin Netanyahu was among those who were against the Gaza Plan and worked - in vain - to try to persuade Ariel Sharon to put the Gaza Plan to a vote saying that the Gaza Strip could become a base for terrorism.

Interestingly, while Olmert has been accused of taking bribes on more than one occasion, a bribery scandal involving Ariel Sharon cast doubt on Israel's Gaza Plan in 2004.

If Sharon hadn't suffered a stroke, it was reportedly feared that he might have gone the way of the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.(i.e. assassination)

Of course, it isn't hard to understand why those who fought, died and risked their lives defending and settling that little piece of desert called the Gaza Strip might not be willing to tolerate what they perceive as some corrupt pantload politician "giving away the Gaza store" without so much as a by your leave vis a vis a referendum.

Yes, I particularly cringe at:

"In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that declaration commits nations to banning "small arms and light weapons" and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Millennium Declaration also affirms the U.N. as "the indispensable common house of the entire human family, through which we will seek to realize our universal aspirations for peace, cooperation and development."

If we ratify all those treaties, kiss our sovereignty on a number of issues goodbye.

The event represented a key endorsement of the monarchy from Spain's political left, who had been historically republican. Left-wing support for the monarchy grew when the Communist Party of Spain was legalized shortly thereafter, a move Juan Carlos had pressed for, despite enormous right-wing military opposition at that time, during the Cold War."....

...... Juan Carlos, who was already King since Franco's death, gave an acceptance address after his father’s resignation speech and thanked him by confirming the title of Count of Barcelona that Don Juan had assumed in exile. It was a sovereign title associated to the crown....

And that is just the whole point.
The powers that be are no longer representing us! They are representing foreign interests.

Neither are they ruling solely for the benefit of those who are governed but rather for the sake of their own self-gratification and self-aggrandizement.

As Christians we are not to rejoice in the death of our enemies: “God does not delight in the destruction of the wicked. . . Love your enemies”; strange just how good it is in my spirit to pray for them. I imagine that there are other cultures that exchange gifts in that way, but I’m not aware of them. Notice in particular how Rice, former NSC member and United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from October 1997 until January 20, 2001, is co chairing this panel with Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), who chairs the House Armed Services Committee’s Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee.

Those pesky weak states just need the UN, EU or US to enforce their R2P.

The R2P means Responsibility to Protect. Much of the work on this is done through Harvard. You can check out Samantha Powers at Harvard. She is the Anna Lindh Professor of Practice of Global Leadership and Public Policy at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. She was a former US News and World Report reporter who covered the wars in the Balkans. Until recently, she was an advisor to Senator Obama (she was the advisor that called Senator Clinton a monster.)

There is an effort to tie weak states to terrorism. This gives them a pretext to intervene in other countries. Why I say, in a tongue in cheek way, an economic meltdown in the US might get us listed on the weak states list.

Very new to your site, Constance. Happened upon it by providence, I'm sure. Been aware for some years of Gorbachev and the Earth Charter stuff. From there I came across a UN map that was deeply disturbing. Then I came across info on Alice Bailey, H.P. Blavatsky, Freemasonry, Crowley, Pike, more New Age stuff, etc...Trying to keep up with the Solana, Sarkozy, Obama info...Came across Bjorn's blog and that's where I found your blog. I'm a little cross-eyed right now with all the intense info, but the truth is resonating with me. Seriously don't even know how to begin telling anyone that I know how to be forewarned! :-(
I'm a pastor's kid who grew up in reformed theological church, graduated from a RT Christian school, graduated from a RT seminary- we NEVER even discussed the end-times! Every one that I know takes the same stance as John MacArthur when he recently stated that he "doesn't care if Obama wins." He stated that he doesn't even waste 5 seconds concerning the election! I know ALOT of people and extremely few even vote and none of them are concerned with these types of events. What is the deal with that-why isn't this stuff resonating with more people?!
Well, thanks for all of the hard work that you do. I'll try to keep up.

For those who may not have the time to check links:

“ The aim of this project is ambitious and urgent: to launch a new reform effort for the global security system in 2009 ... For the global system is in serious trouble. It is simply not capable of solving the challenges of today. You all know the list: terrorism, non-proliferation, climate change, pandemics, failing states ... None can be solved by a single government acting alone.”

Anonymous,

I include Samantha Powers and Harvard because they lend a lot of sympathetic support for international intervention. I think they make a very compassionate, human rights case for a rethinking of the world order (Responsibility to Protect). Constance wrote in an article that the Brookings Institute was essential for intellectual cover.:

"As Carlos Pascual, Strobe Talbott, and Javier Solana all emphasized at the Brookings Institution (a BASIC networker), it was imperative that they have their networks and their intellectual underpinnings in place by 2009. The contribution from the Brookings Institution alone, per Carlos Pascuale was to be the formation of supportive networks, two books giving intellectual underpinning, and plans ready for presentation to the new American president in 2009."

I think advisors like Samantha Powers and Susan Rice are a good public persona for Senator Obama. They are the lower level face on these theories. But they have been making the intellectual case for international intervention and a change in world governance. I've seen both interviewed regarding his foreign policy - Senator Obama will be right in line with Mr. Solana.

They beautifully articulate the need for global governance. One by using her experience in Africa (think Darfur) and the other using her experience in Bosnia.

Javier's website was hacked by some Turkish hackers. I'm adding a picture of that amidst the earthquake info.

I'm interested in Susanna's information just as I am in Dorothy's opinions. It is impossible to understand the New Age Movement without understanding their very broad vision which certainly is much bigger than crystals and group meditation. My interests are political, religious and even humor as I indicated on the statement of what my blogspot is about.

I had better start hustling and start supplying more information as I seem to be noted more for my opinions than my information.

Or is it that I have to stop opinionizing so much. I'll have to think about that. I knew I was getting into trouble with my controversial opinions. Constance, being the good person she is, felt she had to come to my defense. LOL

Deannie,

Here is an interesting July 16, 2008 Bloomberg article on Obama:

"Obama Steers Clear of Michigan Muslims He May Need to Win State"

http://tinyurl.com/6mokse

Nevertheless, given Obama's negative attitude towards Israel, it is downright scary to think of what might happen if Obama were elected president (scary enough under any circumstances!) and there were an EU military deployment to Gaza on his watch.

Hi Susanna,

I saw the article. I figured it was political calculation until he secures the White House.

The first paragraph says it all:

The cover of this week's New Yorker magazine may explain why Barack Obama isn't reaching out to Michigan's Muslims.

I believe we won't really see his true colors until he secures a second term.

You've been complimented more than once at this discussion forum over the last week, Dorothy. Did you even notice them? Someone (or two) took the time out to let you know you were appreciated.

You remind me of a famous scene in the now-class 80's movie, "Diner":

"Say the words 'I want the roast beef sandwich.' Say the words and I'll give you a piece."

Nope, just making fun of myself. I might agree that I give as many opinions as Suzanne gives pieces of information. My sons laughed when I told them about the opinion thing, both saying they get too many of my opinions and are glad to see someone else notices I give a lot of them.

It's good when so many people contribute good information. When people do that, they get involved and are likely to do good here in the comments section and in the regular world.

I've been at this since 1982. Being retired I can follow things every day. I have so many bookmarks and places I looked at I forget why I looked at them in the first place. I could fill the comments section with tons of names, dates and places. Information that is old to me is very new to many posters. What would be the point? It is better that the information sharing be spread around among as many people as possible. I try to just post when something is new for me, thinking it will be new to many people.

I often try to mix in commentary with factual material. That's were the opinion thing comes in. Even as I type this a song keeps running through my head.

You talk too much
You worry me to death
You talk too much
You even worry my pet

You just talk
Talk too much

You talk about people
That you don't know
You talk about people
Wherever you go

.....and that's my opinion.
